File Playback from 1 S1 to another on Wired Network

Post by DavidW » Tue Nov 13, 2012 09:38

I thought this was fixed but problem came back last night. Had to do a total reinstall of my iMac over the weekend and now have this bug. When watching a recording from upstairs S1 on the downstairs S1 it stops after 10-15 mins and returns to the menu. Only change to system been made is the reinstall of mac osx. Have reindexed files on both machines.

What am I missing?

Kind Regards

David

Hi David,

Assuming the recordings are OK and both Beyonwiz units are stable then this could be explained if the playback Beyonwiz can't get enough data to satisfy the stream player. This could be caused by network issues or a very busy network.

Is this a solid failure? Do things improve if you restart *both* Beyonwiz units?

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian

when it returns to the file menu I can play the file again but it starts from the beginning, it will then only go for 10-15 mins again. I have restarted the downstairs unit but it still does the same thing. Would a factory reset solve this, never had this problem until I fiddled with the mac. also run upstairs unit in in file player.

Regards

Hi David,

Sorry for the long delay, this is the first time the forum has been working for days.

I doubt a factory reset will do much for you. Try it if you like but I am more curious to know if the equipment changes have caused some sort of instability in the network. Perhaps there is some sort of packet storm or other anomaly that is getting in the way of data flow between devices. Have you notices any network speed differences or issues or data interruptions for any of your other network activities?

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian

Sorry for delay as well could not get onto forum. No other problems with network, that i am aware of, Apple TV2 works fine from mac. Only thing that changed was osx reinstall on mac. Might just be coincidence but had no problems for ages in streaming before this time. Since we last spoke 1 file did play ok then went on to another file and that stopped after 20 mins.

Hi David,

Do you have access to a PC or other source of network playback so that you can test if this is a mac problem or not.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi David,

I don't know if the Apple TV can share files. What happens if you try streaming from the macbook?

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian

I think I might have solved it, I noticed that the downstairs BW had the same ip address as the airport extreme it is plugged into. Went into setup and forced the BW to change ip address. Have not had time to fully test but will see.

Will let you know

Thanks again for your help

Hi Ian

Have watched files off upstairs BW with no drop outs or problems so ip address must have been the problem

thank you again
