Belkin N300 Wireless N Router
Belkin N300 Wireless N Router
A friend replaced his dead Dlink with a Belkin N300 Wireless + 4 port router - he is using it as a wired unit and not bothering with the WiFi setup at this stage.
His network consists of his PC, Beyonwiz and a WD Live media player IP address is shown as 192.168.2.4 whilst the current IP address of the BW is shown as 192.168.002.002 on the BW set up page.
So far he can only get the WD Live on line. He can however transfer files off the BW via WizFX or Yardwiz so part of the connection works. Any thoughts on getting the BW to be recognised?
It all worked prior to the DLink dying.

I've been going through a similar situation, going from a D-Link modem router to a Netcomm. I had more problems with my WD TV Live getting access to my network shares than anything else but one issue I noticed with the BW was that it took a couple of goes for it to connect to the new router (DHCP). Once I was seeing an IP on the BW's network settings, it was fine.
I assume your friend is having trouble connecting to Ice TV? Or is it browsing network shares?

Browsing network shares is the problem (and nothing has been changed in his computer) - he doesn't use IceTV.
Over the phone we have been through the turn off PC, router and BW and then the reverse routine apparently to no avail.
EDIT: I've just noticed on the screen dump of the Belkin setup that my friend sent me that the Belkin firewall is enabled. On my Dlink (the same model as the dead one) it isn't enabled.
Wondering if this could be the problem?

Belkin firewall - that shouldn't affect the communication between the BW & PC, as they're both inside the Belkin firewall.
Does he have the Windows firewall turned on? Try turning that off for a while - that helped with my WD problems. I was able to turn it back on later.
Does he have Windows 7? If so, when it started to use the new router, did it identify the new network (it should have) and what how did he respond? I've heard that setting up Homegroup again can play havoc with file shares. But it's strange that the WD is OK - my experience is that the WD is "fussier" than the BW with networking.
Only other thing I can think of is to check the IP address of all 3 devices, just in case there's a conflict.
PS - you don't enable your router firewall? That's a bit risky.

Problem solved - he ran "clear all PC" and it works. As he adds shares from time to time it didn't occur to me to suggest it early on...LOL The moral of the story is don't assume..

Hi,
Regards,
Ian.
I *never* have to do this. I have all my network devices on fixed DHCP allocated IP addresses. The IP addresses don't change so the Beynwiz cache of IP addresses is always valid and correct. (Hint! Hint!)Donno wrote:I have to do that occasionally myself. It must be often enough that it's become a routine thing and I didn't think of it.
Regards,
Ian.
Hi Ian, I too have everything on a fixed IP address but occasionally I have to rescan when my NAS drive doesn't wake up quickly enough from power save. It only happens occasionally - usually it just goes back to the device selection but randomly, it will remove the device or shared folder from the list requiring a rescan. It's definitlely a handy trick to remember.
Same here. Most of the time it will work if I wait a few seconds and try again, but occasionally the Wiz is stubborn and I either have to rescan or reboot the Wiz.Dr Dre wrote:Hi Ian, I too have everything on a fixed IP address but occasionally I have to rescan when my NAS drive doesn't wake up quickly enough from power save. Thanks for the tip Ian but I have my devices on fixed DHCP-allocated IP addresses too.
I suspect that having to rescan was due to having to restart the modem/router and Windows 7 recognising it as a new network. But that's only a suspicion.
PS - you'll prabably have to rescan tonight, now that you've made that absolute statement
