Two Beyonwiz on Network

Post by kiwi » Sun Apr 22, 2012 17:04

I am planning to buy a second DP-2P. They will both be connected (wired) to a Netgear DGND3700 router/ADSL Modem which also has a 2TB HDD connected to it.

Just wondering will there be any unpleasant surprises when I want to play recorded content on one DP-2P from the other?

Will the fast forward, pause, skip functions all work when I watch content one on Wiz from the other Wiz?

Am I likely to get away with playing two files from the networked HDD at the same time (one on each Wiz)?

Will I be able to copy/move content between the two units?

Will I be able to play a recording that is currently being moved between units?

A few restrictions on viewing content on one Wiz from another
- Although pause and skip work, fast forward doesn't (skip is better anyway)
- Best performance is when the Wiz with the recorded program isn't doing anything - typically just leave it in the file player menu.
- HD streaming between Wizzes isn't as reliable as SD.

Although you can stream between Wizzes, I don't think you can move recordings between them.

Hi Kiwi,

In addition to Glow's post I would like to add that FF and REW can work but they are limited to the data streaming speed available via the network. In my case I can often get x2 to work and sometimes x4 to work but nothing faster. If the data rate on the file is high then even these speeds don't always work for me.

Ian.

2 dp-p2's networked

Post by stido » Wed Sep 26, 2012 15:45

My DP-P2 in the bedroom can see and play files from the DP-P2 in the lounge but the one in the lounge can see the one in the bedroom but can't see the recordings on the one in the bedroom, the recordings folder appears empty.

I've set both DP-P2's as client & server so what am I doing wrong?

Hi, stido. Welcome to the forum.

Have you tried re-indexing the recordings on the bedroom DP-P2? To do this, go into the HDD part of the FilePlayer, and then press the SOUNDTRACK button on the remote (bottom right of the remote, with a speaker+question mark icon on the button). After doing this you may need to restart the lounge DP-P2 for the re-indexing to make any difference.

There's no guarantee that this will work, but the re-index rebuilds some files that the WizPnP protocol uses to let clients know what's in the server. If those files are corrupted somehow, WizPnP may not work.

Did you give them different names?

Other settings and how is your network set up?

Thanks prl, that worked. Now both devices are working as client and server perfectly.

:)

It's a standard thing to try when the FilePlayer GUI doesn't appear to be listing all the recordings. But for WizPnP, you have to do it on the server, not on the client machine where you see the recording list being displayed incorrectly.

Hi guys,

Old PVR = Beyonwiz DP-P1 firmware 01.05.350
New PVR = Beyonwiz DP-P2 firmware 01.07.351

I have recently purchased the DP-P2 - 2Tb. It can see the "contents" of my old DP-P1 but not the "recordings". DP-P1 can see both "recordings" and "contents" of DP-P2

I have followed the tips earlier in this thread - re-index, turn off, checked names are different, but still can't get the DP-P2 to see the recordings on the DP-P1.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Mick.

Hi Mick,

Welcome!

Have you tried WizFX (or equivalent) on a PC to access the DP-P1? It would be interesting to see if WizFX can see the recording folder. If it can then the problem is in the DP-P2. If it can't then the problem is likely in the DP-P1. Knowing which unit is at fault will help move the diagnosis along.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian & thanks for the reply.

I'm surprised to see that this is my first post in 5 years on these forums, but thanks for the welcome anyway.

I had a look at WizFX and have similar results - it can see recordings on the P2, but not on the P1. Will a format of the P1 HDD do anything for me?

Hi Mick,

If there is nothing you want to save then a reformat is worth a shot.

Ian.

Hi, Mick.

Before you reformat, can you see if you can fetch the recording index file from the Beyonwiz into a browser?

Try fetching: http://YourBwIpAddr:49152/index.txt

You should get a plain text file with the names of recordings and where they're stored on the Beyonwiz. If not what error do you get? If you get a "can't connect" type error, do you see it almost immediately, or only after a delay?

Interestingly, as the old P1 is copying away to a USB disk for the next few hours, preparing for HDD format - I can now see the files from WizFX, and from the P2.

So it appears to have fixed itself.

I'll still go ahead with a format and factory reset once the recordings are off.

Cheers,

MK
