Problem networking P1, P2 & Lite i

Post by Curly » Mon Feb 07, 2011 19:10

We have all three of these models and they can all see each other through our network. The problem is: Let's say I am using the P2 and go into the file player and want to watch something that is on the P1 in the other room. I can see the P1 and the TV shows I have recorded show up but also things that I have deleted earlier in the day. If you try to play them they won't play. They have definately been deleted on the P1 so why does the P2 still see them. It's like the P1 is sending the P2 and old list.
The same thing happens on all 3 units.
Hope I haven't confused you. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Try re-indexing on the machines where you see the wrong recordings when you connect to them remotely. Go to FilePlayer>HDD, then press SOUNDTRACK (bottom right of the remote, IIRC, with the speaker/question mark on the button).

Wait about a minute after the re-indexing finishes, and then try viewing the recordings on that machine from one of the others.

That seemed to work. Thanks heaps.

Is there any particular reason why I have to do this each time? New recordings show up automatically but things I delete don't disappear until I re-index.

You shouldn't need to keep redoing this. If you delete recordings on the server while you are in FilePlayer>Network>Server on the client, then the deletions probably won't show up on the client until you exit the FilePlayer and enter it again.

If you delete a recording while it's being played over the network (yes, you can :)), the client's playback will stop, but otherwise nothing bad will happen.

Coming out of the file player doesn't clear it. Turning the unit off that has the files on it and letting the other unit detect it again seems to sometimes clear it. It happens on all 3 units. It's annoying but at least I know about the re indexing button now.

Hi Curly,

What firmware version are you using on all your units? Have you upgraded to the new version, 01.0x.350, released last week?

Regards,
Ian.

It was happening on the old firmware so I updated all 3 units to the latest firmware on Sunday. (350)

Hi Curly,

Did the problem change in any way with the new firmware? Better? Worse?

Ian.

Hi Curly,

I think it is time for you to describe your environment and what you are doing in great detail.

Also, do your devices use fixed IP addresses or can each of the Beyonwiz unit's IP address change without notice?

Regards,
Ian.

OK. Hubby did the set up but I'll do my best to describe it. :)

Apple Airport Extreme G & N

However, the Wiz units are using a Netgear Powerline Network System. Some people knock these but it works great for us in our situation.

Wiz P1 in kitchen
Wiz Lite i & P2 in Lounge Room

The Netgear System works really well as in the past we have used it to stream video from a NAS server to the Wiz P2 . It also gives us fast speeds up the other end of our house where our wifi struggles to reach.

The actual streaming of the video works great. It's just the file player not updating.

Hubby set the Wiz units so they have their own permanent IP addresses. His job involves wireless networking so he knows a bit about this.

Have I included everything you need to know?

I have some good news. I think it's working now. It seems to take maybe 3-4 minutes to update BUT it is updating eventually. I'll see how it goes. Thanks for your help.

That's normal behaviour. I mentioned it in passing here (last sentence). I don't think the wait should be as long as 3-4 minutes, but the update of the WizPnP index is done asynchronously with the actual changes in the HDD.

I'm just glad it seems to be working now. We live in the county. Things happen a bit slower out here :) 3-4 minutes is OK.. I appreciate your fast response. Thanks.
