Networking Difficulties
Networking Difficulties
I have a BW
ID = 0808 000 OE20BE3E
Firmware = 01.02.019
Loader = 1.0.14.1.8
By both wireless and ethernet it will connect to the router and the IceTV service runs fine. I can ping it OK. So communication is working. But I have totally failed to get connection to my PC for file sharing.
I have
1/ turned off firewalls
2/ Given file sharing permission to "Everyone"
3/ tried the Windows Xp wireless network setup tool (with USB stick) to add BW to the network (it is not found as a device)
3/ scanned for available PCs on the BW. It always hangs at 49% (as reported as a bug by others on the DTV forum Australia) and finds no PCs
4/ tried to manually enter my PC IP address which is 192.168.0.182. Not accepted
5/ downloaded a copy of Network Manager software. Very neat software for the unskilled like me. Its tool Network Magic on my PC can 'see' my BW, and shows it on the snappy looking network map as being on-line and no error messages
6/ Did a factory reset of the BW
Any advice as to where-to-next will be appreciated. (and thanks to several on the DTV Forum who have helped so far. I am moving this issue here, hoping to get some resolution.....

cowombat,
In order to get my network to recognise the BW I had to log onto my router's IP address using my web browser and allocate static addresses to all network components including the address I gave the BW in its setup.
Cross check IP addresses, security settings, sharing settings and the network name and settings on your computers, the BW and the router.
A simple thing like using caps for the network name can cause problems.
Also, before scanning for computers on the BW, press the yellow button to remove all previous pc info.
Good luck.

I have also found that the default share names of C$ for example are not always working. I usually create a new chare name with share to everyone and not had an issue.
In the network menu, does the BW pick up the PCs? If it sees the PCs and not the shares then it is definitely the share drives being the issue, however if the PCs do not even show up then it more than likely an network issue.
I have set mine up with static IP for the host PC as well as the BW. The issues I have now is the BW not being able to effectively stream video media over wireless, takes along time to load. Over 100Mpbs is acceptable and definitely works a treat loading from a USB drive

First you need to enable the guest account:
Start - Programs - Administrative Tools - Computer Management
Local Users and Groups
Users
Guest - Properties - Account is Disabled
Then you need to allow Guest access via the Network:
Start - Programs - Administrative Tools - Local Security Polisy
Local Policies
User Rights Assignment
Access this computer from the network - Add the Guest account.
That should do it I think.

This is because you can't at the moment. It's only one-way access at this stage. Possibly fixed with the next firmware......samurie wrote:Im not sure what your saying but I know I can not see the Beyonwiz at all from
either my xp or vista machines, I know the network is working as the wiz can
see my xp machine and play movies from it it also has downloaded ice tv epg
but I just can not get my machines to see it.. grrrr
Tried everything still no luck
Hi all,
Maybe someone can shed a bit more light on this issue.
Have a wireless router, a laptop (Windows XP) and the BW.
Setup Icetv with no dramas.
But to see the content of a shared folder on my laptop is still a nightmare.
The router is completely open (just to make it easier), No firewall active on my laptop.
Scan will result in nothing.
Find PC will result in (ip-address) not found.
I can see both Laptop and BW in my router as attached devices with their IP - addresses.
The shared folder is open to everyone, and the policies are set as well.
Any suggestions welcome!
Cheers,
Rudi.

FIXED. Laptop from work had been setup with a policy of ALLOWING the Guest account to "Logon locally", so I thought that should be ok, but a couple of policies down it said:
"Deny logon locally" with Guest account in it.
And then there are the policies:
- Access this computer from the network
- Deny access this computer from the network.
Anyway the morale of this is to check all the individual policies and don't assume anything.

I understand your frustration, but if you had read my post:
http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?p=71#71
and half way through the section, Shares on the PC
...If you want to leave simple file sharing disabled then this is what I have done:
Enabled Guest in Computer management --> Local users and groups --> Users --> Guest
Then in Local Security Policy --> User Rights Assignment --> Deny Access to this computer from the network --> I deleted Guest.
I then made sure that the share I was trying to access, had Everyone listed in the Security tab.
This is all I changed in my security polices

Network connection - IP address lost after standby
I ind it extremely frustrating to having to reapply network settings every time I place my Beyonwiz to sleep. I have to also clear my ICETV cache and retrieve ICETV guide. This definitely needs to be fixed. My work around is not to place the Beyonwiz into standby, i.e. leave it on all the time!

I dont know if you are using DHCP to configure your dp-s1. If so try setting a static IP address, the default gateway and DNS server in the dp-s1.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have been away overseas the last 2.5 weeks, and came back yesterday to recommence wrestling with the issue of connectivity. I had a look at the User Rights Assignment, and "guest' was already in there. User Rights Assignment also has no denial for access via network. All else seems to be covered, ie sharing is activated for the directories I want to access, Simple File Sharing in activated, IceTV works, and firewalls off during some testing.gjws wrote:First you need to enable the guest account:

I really am floundering... not being an IT guru, just trying to follow help from anyone who can give it. I wonder if there is any more expert person in Melbourne (Glen Iris) who would be willing to stop by (excellent beer available!) and give me a hand? I'd love to nail this!!!!

If you are using simple file sharing in Win XP Pro that should have been enough to get you going.
The other security policies etc. should not be needed.
If your firewall is not blocking you make sure NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled.
