For anyone having problems seeing a shared folder on a USB connected Ext HDD connected to a Win10 Laptop (or PC), the following may help.
From our DP-S1s I could always see & play recordings stored on shared folders of a 2TB USB Ext HDD when it was connected to a WinXP PC (DP-S1s were connected via Ethernet LAN). However, I found this wouldn’t work over the same LAN on my Win10 Laptop using the same USB Ext HDD & same DP-S1s.
A Google search came up with a solution that worked:
The following
Code: Select all
IRPStackSize REG_DWORD 0x00000020 (32)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
This topic has more information.
The relevant instructions from jopmoro ’s post in that topic are listed below:
1) Run regedit.
2) Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
3) In the right pane, double-click the IRPStackSize value (if it exists, if not, see below). In the Value Data box, type a Hex value of 20 (32 decimal) and then click OK.
4) Close the Registry Editor and restart the computer.
If the problem persists after you complete the preceding procedure, try to increase the value of IRPStackSize even more. The maximum value for Windows 2000 was 50 (0x32 hex), so you should stay below that.
How the create the IRPStackSize value:
1) In the Parameters folder of the registry, right-click the right pane.
2) Point to New, and then click DWord Value (32 bits).
3) Type IRPStackSize exactly as it is displayed because the value name is case-sensitive.
Important: I wouldn’t recommend making any changes to the registry unless you are aware of the consequences if something is changed or added incorrectly. When you exit from regedit, all changes & additions are saved without any confirmation. A backup is recommended first.
From what I have read, this issue appears to go back as far as Win7.
