T2 does not reboot if a keyboard is connected.
T2 does not reboot if a keyboard is connected.
I have tried to attach a wired usb keyboard in either of 2 usb ports and when a reboot requested via the menu/setup/power/reboot , the T2 shuts down and I don't get the splash screen.
Manual power off/on and no change.
Unplugging keyboard, and power off/on and reboot occurrs.
Usb tuner was not connected during this test.
Keyboard was detected and worked on Win 7 machine.
Tried a k400r as well and same result.
Is there some trick to making a keyboard work?
Am I missing a plugin or driver?
Usb ports appear to work, tuner was detected and initial software proceeded fine.

Re: T2 does not reboot if a keyboard is connected.
This sounds very strange. All of the required drivers are installed by default and should just work. Unless your particular keyboards are somehow exotic and not playing well with Linux.
I am running the latest beta firmware, and plugged an old keyboard into the front USB port on the T2. The keyboard was immediately detected, and I could control the T2 straight away.
The fact that the keyboard prevents your T2 from rebooting cleanly is probably not a good sign. Of what I don't know.....
But seeing as the bootloader happens well before any drivers get invoked, then the problem is not likely anything to do with the drivers or main firmware.

Re: T2 does not reboot if a keyboard is connected.
Thanks for the reply.
Did some more testing.
Plugging in a wired keyboard and it doesn't seem to be detected.
Factory reset did make it detectable.
Restarted gui and I was able to type into the browser.
Changed wired for wireless, and it stopped working. Ok.
Restarted gui again and was able to type into browser and navigate web. Keys and pointer working.
Is using the "web"browser an acceptable test?
Connected usb tuner when keyboard connected and restarted gui. Keyboard still worked afterwards.
Checked setup/information/devices and tuner there but not keyboard.
Should it have been?
With tuner and keyboard connected tried another reboot and no signal to Tv.
Removed keyboard dongle , powered off and on again and boot ok.
Is there something I am doing wrong?
Reboot is being performed via /setup/power/reboot.

MENU>Setup>Information>Devices only shows tuners, HDDs and mounted volumes, and network mounts (including DLNA).Bluebird wrote:...

So the keyboard wouldn't be expected to show up there.

Re: T2 does not reboot if a keyboard is connected.
Hi Bluebird,
What, exactly, is the keyboard that you are using? You mentioned trying a Logitech K400R. What other keyboards have you tried? Are any of them Bluetooth or devices that require custom drivers?
Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian,
The second keyboard is a Logitech Internet 350. It is a usb keyboard and 5 to 8 years old.
No bluetooth.

Re: T2 does not reboot if a keyboard is connected.
Hi Marty,
On searching the Internet for information regarding this keyboard I note that most add describe the keyboard as "driver less" and indicate that the keyboard should just work. A read of the Logitech forums indicated that some users are having problems with this model. The issue may only relate to the extra and special keys available on that model.
I would suggest that you have the keyboard connected before you start the T2. (While you are having issues I would avoid hot-swapping keyboards.) Having the keyboard connected at boot time will allow the kernel to start with all appropriate drivers loaded. Restarting the GUI does not restart the kernel. To exclude T2 issues I would also suggest that you try with a bog standard PC style keyboard and see how that works. If there are no issues it would appear to confirm the potential non standard nature of this particular keyboard.

Ian.

Re: T2 does not reboot if a keyboard is connected.
I have a Microsoft 600 wired keyboard. A quick google doesn't seem to show any problems.
I will:
Shut down T2 and turn off power.
Connect keyboard to front port and have tuner on back port.
Then power up, and see what happens.

Re: T2 does not reboot if a keyboard is connected.
Turned on T2 with microsoft keyboard and receiver reported "no input".
Waited 60 seconds then powered off.
Disconnected keyboard and powered on.
Had Beyonwiz logo in 5 secs and bubbles shortly after.
Unless I should have waited longer, I don't think the different keyboard made a difference.

Re: T2 does not reboot if a keyboard is connected.
Hi Marty,
I don't have a T2 so I can't really assist any further.
Perhaps you should contact Beyonwiz support to check that you don't have a faulty unit.

Ian.

Re: T2 does not reboot if a keyboard is connected.
I conversed with DTC Help desk and this topic has probably come to an end.
The help desk was able to replicated the condition on their own T2 using a Microsoft 600 keyboard.
The mini keyboard available from DTC does NOT replicate the condition.
Seems like a driver issue.
Marty.
