keyboards

Post by wls » Wed Feb 11, 2015 19:21

Do the cable ones connect ? Have a spare USB keyboard and reading the posts about wireless keyboards and dongles it gives me the impression that the dongle emulates a normal keyboard ?

I have an extension USB cable that if I plug into the T3 and then into the keyboard it will fit nicely onto my coffee table .........

Yep, a normal usb keyboard works straight away, no fuss.

Same goes for any keyboard with a cord emulating dongle.

I have gotten a Bluetooth keyboard working once the Bluetooth manager plugin was installed as well.

My new T2 came with the extra USB tuner, to give 3 tuners. So that device is occupying the USB port.

I'm no computer guru - is there a way to connect a keyboard as well as keeping the USB tuner? Will a USB hub/ splitter work OK?

Thanks,
Andrew

Yes it will . Go for a powered one for best results.

Thanks again Gully. When you say "powered" do you mean battery powered rather than USB power? I haven't seen one of those, apart from Bluetooth keyboards.

Mains powered rather than USB powered.

Mains powered hub he means. Clearly the keyboard will be USB wired, or battery :) I'm not sure I would be too keen on a mains powered keyboard :)

As already answered, I was referring to the hub being mains powered not the keyboard. :)

I'm using a USB keyboard to rename files and noticed that some (but not many) keys can be used in navigation and playback.
Is there anyway of allowing more T4 keys to be recognised (e.g. colour keys)?

You can edit the keymap.xml file to add whatever key mappings you like.

If you come up with a good scheme that works across most keyboards, it could be incorporated into the firmware I guess.

keymap .xml looks like this by default. You'd have to put all your new mappings in the appropriate spots.

The keymap IDs are listed here afaik.

I didn't realise there was a 'keyboard' section in the keymap. I need to go do some tinkering.

Thanks MrQuade. :D

Hi AvB,
Reading your post, are you aware there is a second USB port in the front behind the flap?
