You can check the setup via OpenWebif. Drive the virtual remote to the setting. Alternatively, open the settings in OpenWebif browser - http://beyonwizt2/web/settings and do a find on string "config.usage.frontend_priority=". If the value is a "2" then you have tuner C as preferred. IF it's "-1" then it is set to "auto".

I don't believe the Realtek USB tuner has ever worked on your T2 - you don't have the driver installed for it to allow it to be recognised.

You don't need both a USB extension cable and a USB hub. Either will do, but the cable should be cheaper. The main point is to have the USB tuner away from the ethernet cable and the HDMI cable. Also the bluey/blackies are heavier than the Beyonwiz MINI tuner, so having it laying on the shelf is better.

Have you tried another known good HDMI cable to see if you get a picture on the TV?

Hmm That's a thought. Will try that next
I just wrote a long post, with attachments and it disappeared. So, take two
Installed the plugin. The 'about' page hasn't changed, however, seem to have acquired 3 tuners. Still, no picture and on re-testing the tuners (as much as I can understand) this hasn't been a resounding success

It is set to 1. but I knew that already, as I have been doing the testing etc on the web, so changed it to C then back to auto

The USB tuner is working, as your pic of The Chase Australia shows tuner C.

I do, even now, get a picture for a few seconds at a time.

If that's also the case for the user interface screens, that sounds like it might be a flaky HDMI cable or connector.

Well, against my better judgement (and doctor's orders) I climbed up on my step ladder and swapped the HDMI cable. So far, so good. The top right corner still has the toggling pop up thingy with the HDMI sign, but have a picture. Fingers and toes crossed - will have to wait and see.
Thank you everyone for all the help

... but have a picture. ...
Hi Judy,

Good to see you now have a picture. For future reference; a golden rule of fault finding is to check/suspect the last couple of things that were changed, this is why I suggested to try another known good HDMI cable.

The way the HDMI & USB rear sockets are mounted close to one another may have contributed to this when the USB tuner & HDMI lead were both plugged in. That part of the T2 is a bad design, those two sockets should be further apart. A short USB lead should have been supplied with the T2, but in my case it wasn’t, so I made one up.

As to the attachments that keep going missing. Peter (prl) advised me why this happens. If more than one attachment is put in a post, only one attachment will be left after using preview. If only one attachment is put in a post, it will remain after using preview.

This is what I do. If I need to show more than one attachment, I put one in one post along with any text (preview can be used in that post to check layout, grammar etc.), & the rest of the attachments in a following post just containing the attachments (but I don’t use preview in this following post). If a mistake is made in the following post I use edit to correct it.

I generally take a slightly riskier approach that keeps all the attachments in the one post: I enter all the post text, preview and check it, and then add the attachments and post without another preview. De gustibus non est disputandum.

Same, same, me 8)
But I think one might still get screwed over if a new post had been made in between time - then I think some attachments get lost.

True, but it doesn't happen to me all that often, and can still happen if you post more than one attachment in the second post.

Well, so far so good, still holding. (it did work for a week or so before, so still in the wait and see mode :| as I only watch the T2 in bed, in lieu of sleeping pill )
I also found a spare shortish USB extension cable, so put that in as well. (just ordered a 23cm one off eBay :D which is the shortest I could find. I certainly don't know how to make my own  )
Thank you for the advice re attachments. Will try to remember in future
BTW, completely OT. Is there any way of testing a cable if it is any good or not? You say try a "known" good HDMI cable. This time, I happened to have an unopened one that I bought for another purpose which ended up not being used, but most of the time all of my collection of various cables have been used before, can't remember when and for what, so how do I know if it is "good" or not? For instance, I have no idea what the USB extension cable I found was used for previously.
Cheers,
Judy

You could try Jaycar as a source of reasonable price, reasonable cost cables for both of these. Either online or one of your local shops, guessing maybe Cheltenham or Frankston, maybe Hallam or Cranbourne.

As some of them are unbranded, maybe just known source for known good cables. :D

By “known” good HDMI cable, I mean one that you know works or is working on another similar device. I have boxes of various cables that I have removed from redundant equipment, & some of these I wouldn’t know if they worked reliably until I try them on another piece of equipment.

For most cables it pays to see if they are fully plugged in & seated correctly, they can get accidently dislodged. With HDMI cables that aren’t working reliably, sometimes reversing the cable end for end can work.

You should be pretty right with a second hand USB cable (providing it is the correct type). Compared to USB cables, HDMI cables are more critical.

As Gully mentioned, Jaycar is a fairly good source of cables. I have also purchased cables from Cable Chick.

[soapbox] The worse type of cable connections are the Belling-Lee PAL antenna coax connectors used on Beyonwiz & other devices. These things should be banned IMO. Top marks to Tivo for using F-type connectors on their PVR. [/soapbox]
