can V2 display channel on front panel?

Post by chochook » Tue Sep 28, 2021 23:57

I could be wrong but i don't think the V2 is able to display on the front of the unit what channel it's on? The reason i would like to have it displayed is some times i want to turn the V2 to a certain channel because i remember i have forgotten to set the timer for a show. But i might not want to turn the tv on because i am going out or whatever, & intend on time shift watching the show when i get home. I hope that makes sense.

So yeah currently it only displays the time or 'rec' when recording, i can't see any other options under preferences or have i missed it?

I have a patch that displays the number on channel change, but for some reason didn't submit it. If that's good enough you can easily add it yourself, if you're willing to modify your firmware. Open up /usr/share/enigma2/display/skin_display.xml and change Clock to Clock;Number (in the convert line). Restart, now when you change channel the number will be displayed for 5s.

I leave mine on ABC2. Very rarely watch live, so am not switching channels. I won't accidently see something I'm recording when I turn on the TV next time. Of course it could happen that I'm using all 4 tuners, so then it's possibly unavoidable. But highly unlikely given what's on most of the time.

If you have network access to your V2, you could use OpenWebif to zap to the channel you want to leave it on.
This should work if the V2 is on or in standby

T2 500GB (17.5.20190207) w/ Bluey USB Tuner

Better still to set the "forgotten" timer via OpenWebif.

thanks, it looks a bit advanced for this newbie though, where do i put this code? well actually i've had the unit since June 2020 but never really had time to thoroughly explore the ins & outs of the system, which means i maybe missing out some nice features i guess

well sort of lol, i can see it on my Windows 10 laptop in file explorer, but only the log directory. Quite honestly the network setup was too complicated for me when i first setup & don't know that i want to revisit it, BUT in case i want to torture myself, can you summarize what i would need to do to use OpenWebif?

It's not really code, it's an XML file that describes how the display layout is done. The file to modify is named in adoxa's post, along with what to change in it, and the place to change it in the file is shown in the link that adoxa posted. But that would mean either enabling Windows share access to the firmware part of the V2's filesystem, or enabling login into the Linux system running on the V2. It may be more than you feel comfortable doing.

You need to put the network name of your V2 (beyonwizv2 by default) into the address/search bar of your preferred Web browser (not Windows File Explorer), and press ENTER (or RETURN, depending on your keyboard). OpenWebif gives you access to the Beyonwiz through your Web browser.

You don't see "Movies" with contents of the recordings that are on the V2?
Do you have a microSD card fitted?

For OpenWebif (sometimes referred to as OWIF), open this link in your computer's browser - http://beyonwizv2
If your router doesn't do name resolution, then substitute "beyonwizv2" with its IP address (e.g. http://192.168.1.25, you'll need to check on the router or on the V2 itself for the IP address).

Once in OpenWebif, you'll see you can view the EPG, set timers, create AutoTimer definitions, stream recordings to your computer, et. al.
By clicking on the angled double-headed arrow in the "Remote" section in the left-hand panel you expand the remote and then have access to all of the remote buttons and can control the V2 from your computer.
You can take a screenshot of what's currently showing on the V2 by right-clicking the Screenshot window and saving the image.

the folder is there but empty, my default folder is 'usb' anyway. I was able to see the contents at one point then not, couldn't be bothered sorting it out to be honest

Okay, so you must have a microSD card installed, mounted as /media/hdd. You can add the USB's /media/usb directory to the Samba share via the script attached to the post at this link - viewtopic.php?f=66&t=13725&p=192158#p182869
