At the risk of raising an EPG related question, I noticed tonight that in the graphic EPG with the long description we don't get the episode title. In case I haven't described it correctly, for example

Midsomer Murders

has the description

The ghost village of Little Auburn has been abandoned since the war. When a young man is found murdered during its grand reopening, DCI Barnaby must unravel a sinister web of lies to catch the killer.

but is missing 'The Village That Rose From The Dead' either as a subtitle or in the description.

I thought a while ago there were discussions to do one or the other?

Sorry, I should have said FTA.

Is IceTV different? I can see on their website they display that information but I thought they sourced it from the ABC so wondered if it was the same but I guess they use different fields.

ABC doesn't broadcast the episode title, you need IceTV for that.

Fair enough. Seems like 7 and 10 might be the same looking at the EPG.

Shame but sorry for the sidetrack.

FTA EPG for Midsomer Murders "The Village That Rose From The Dead:

IceTV EPG for the same:

IceTV provides both subtitle and description fields for most series episodes (though sometimes the subtitle is nothing more than "Season X Episode Y"). Those two fields are mapped into the short description and long description fields respectively in the standard FTA format EPG used for display on the Beyonwiz.

My understanding is that IceTV sources guide data direct from both the SBS and ABC. The ABC broadcasts only the program sysnopsis, while the SBS broadcasts the synopsis as the short description and episode title as the long description.

The SBS practice appears to not be the intention of Free TV Operational Practice OP- 44 Implementation Guide for DVB EIT Present/Following Information (EITp/f) section 2.2.2, and also of Operational Practice OP- 58 Implementation Guide for DVB EIT Schedule Information (EITscheduleactual), which says that those fields in the EPG should follow the same rules as in the present/following (aka now/next) data.

The reasons for the choices may be because of inconsistent handling of the two fields across receivers.

No, short description contains country, audio description and consumer warnings; long description is the synopsis. Hence Deswapper, so timers get the description back.

Ah, I thought I had recalled something that tried to fix it but hadn't remembered it was only for SBS.

I shouldn't rely on memory for stuff I'm not fully familiar with. But IMO, it's still contrary to the intention of the relevant FreeTV OPs.
