Easier way to edit fstab settings

A small anomaly has cropped when using the fstab mount option.

In mount manager I created an fstab mount of the T3. Worked fine but I decided to amend the local name, also via mount manager. Thereafter, I had two identical net mounts: MovieT3 and T3_Movie.

To erase the duplicate I've had to manually edit the file "fstab". Not hard to do when you know what you're doing but it may affect novice users.

Too lazy to go to the PC so I used the remote via Menu >> Sources files. Accessed the file by renaming to fstab.txt and editing it. Saved changes then undid the rename.

Is there a simpler way for direct editing fstab errors by a novice?

Did you reboot after the rename?

Reboot is pending- other half just woke up from a nap...

Tried out Fstabeditor but found it very limited when trying to enter a directory path.

The edit field for device name appears limited to 20 characters. Enough for an IP address and a very short folder name.

The add entry item only allows 1 character!

Basically unusable.

PS Reboot cleared the errant entry.

A while ago I tried to iron out some of the complete mess that is the network mount screens. I improved its robustness quite a bit, I think, but It doesn't surprise me at all that there are still bugs.

I've been around Unixoid systems long enough to have used systems where the only way to edit fstab was ed /etc/fstab. None of that fancy full-screen editor stuff.

Mind you, ed is probably one of the easiest-to-use and most powerful paper-TTY editors for programmers that I ever used. The command name grep derives from the ed command g/re/p (globally search the file for lines matching the regular expression re and print matching lines).
