T3 Hard drive apparently dead
T3 Hard drive apparently dead
The internal hard drive is no longer recognised. I tried a memory stick in the front USB port and was able to record a program I wanted.
Today all stations are pixelated and getting frozen frames etc.
Time to send to Warkus methinks. Can someone supply a contact number or address please. Not sure what the best approach is, should I remove the drive and try to recover stuff on my PC (with Linux) or leave it for Warkus?
The signal degradation has nothing to do with location as I have direct line of sight and only about 10Kms away as the crow flies and the TV tuner is OK. Never had that before. Probably the power supply. Obviously I can't get to the crash log, it's on the disc presumably. BTW is there any difference between the front and rear USB ports?
UPDATE: Found Warkus details.

Re: T3 Hard drive apparently dead
Definitely switch it off then, or risk further damage.
Warkus wouldn't generally offer a data recovery service, just hardware repair.
That being said, you may be more comfortable taking the HDD out so that it doesn't get bumped around during shipping and risk damage.
If you want the data from the drive, then you will need to plug it into a device that can read ext4 formatted media. A Linux PC or other Linux based device, or NAS generally will, but you would need drivers to do so on MacOS or Windows.
They are powered from separate power feeds on the motherboard, but otherwise function the same way.netmask wrote: ↑Thu Jun 13, 2019 14:56The signal degradation has nothing to do with location as I have direct line of sight and only about 10Kms away as the crow flies and the TV tuner is OK. Re: T3 Hard drive apparently dead
Not too fussed about the data on the disc. It would be nice if I could recover a couple of programs but there are other avenues. I intend replacing the 500GB with a 2TB drive. WD Blue which I have and is new unused in my stock. Found his email and have been corresponding.

Re: T3 Hard drive apparently dead
Not healthy. At least one cap is bulging and one has leaked. Chances are that there is not much wrong with the HDD, it just can't work with bad power supply.
Re: T3 Hard drive apparently dead
Thanks Peter - rummaging in my store room for the original box to pack it for the couriers, I must have a clean/throw out soon....
