17.5-20190207 promoted to production release

Post by peteru » Thu Mar 07, 2019 12:05

The current beta has been stable for a month and is a worthwhile improvement over the last official firmware. Performing an online update should work without any incidents. Here are the USB images that match the latest online update.

U4 - beyonwiz-17.5-beyonwizu4-20190207_usb.zip
T4 - beyonwiz-17.5-beyonwizt4-20190207_usb.zip
T3 - beyonwiz-17.5-beyonwizt3-20190207_usb.zip
T2 - beyonwiz-17.5-beyonwizt2-20190207_usb.zip

Regardless of whether you choose to perform an online update or use the USB method, you should back up your current settings first.

Enjoy!

I've recently installed 17.5.20190206 (17.5-819-gdd3f1fa). It's the same size as 2019-02-07.
Are there any differences between the two?

Hi Peter

I have 17.5, build 20180417. Is it ok to Online Update in this scenario?

Thanks in advance.

The 20190207 update had these changes from 20190206 -

Code: Select all

[Ipkg] parseLine beyonwiz-version-info - 17.5-20190206.5 - 17.5-20190207.0
[Ipkg] parseLine oe-alliance-branding - 17.5+git801+8892523-r20190206-beyonwizt4.0 - 17.5+git801+8892523-r20190207-beyonwizt4.0
[Ipkg] parseLine beyonwiz-base - 17.5-r0.262 - 17.5-r0.263
[Ipkg] parseLine beyonwiz-enigma2 - 17.5-r0.122 - 17.5-r0.123

Yes, it should be fine. If you see the update message you should:
  • Back up your settings.
  • Perform online update.
  • Reboot.
The USB update files are there as an option for full re-installs. If you prefer to start fresh, don't have internet access or think that there are problems with your installation, then the USB update is your ticket.

That is no good.

How about some more information?

What model?
What firmware were you on before?
Does everything work correctly?
Etc?

If the GUI crashed then there usually is a crash log written. Take a look using File Commander (MENU>>Sources / Files). Navigate to Internal Flash / home / root / logs.
If a crash log is present, copy the log to a USB drive -
Have the log directory open on one pane and the USB drive open in the other pane (you can use CH+/- or PREV/NEXT to switch panes).
Then select a crash log from the "log" pane and copy it (YELLOW) to the "USB" pane.
Exit back to live TV.

To eject/unmount the USB, from live TV press BLUE and choose 'SimpleUmount'. You may have to set 'Show only removable devices' to off/no. Then choose the USB device and press OK.

The option to unmount USB was removed from the blue button menu in the last couple of updates. Use MENU/PLUGINS to access SimpleUmount.

Many thanks to all involved for the ongoing work!

If this is the new Production Release, are there any release notes ready yet against last year's 20180417 please, included in its announcement last year https://www.beyonwiz.com.au/forum/viewt ... 45&t=12456 ? It would be very interesting to see all the changes. :D

Thanks.

Oh yeah, I forgot that in the 20190206 beta update it moved location from the Extensions menu to a direct entry in the "Plugins" (left) column of the main menu (the column is ordered alphabetically, so it's located towards the bottom), and as you note, it's now also in the Plugins Browser screen (PLUGIN button from live TV, or MENU>>Plugins).

I have a friend who did online upgrade of his T4 and says that the WizOS app on iOS is now saying "Connection Error". Apparently remote works and can see timers and recordings lists.

Any ideas if a setting default changed in upgrade? I noticed that DLNA, FTP etc... all turned back on again after upgrading my t4 & t2.

I've just tested on my ipad which was set up with both boxes. I see same issue. What info do you need from me?

I use static IP addresses on my Beyonwiz boxes by the way.

Actually apologies, this has been reported in the beta thread as well. No resolution other than to switch to an alternative app.

Thanks. My colleague has seen this thread and is going to try the other app.

I haven’t used app for ages. Prefer the webpage personally, and remote watching I use Plex DVR and point to BW library.

Unofficially, and off the top of my head.

Features:
*New multiple file selection features in the Media Player for Copy/Move/Delete operations
*Improved Cut-list Editor interface
*New skipping options allowing keypad skips to be selectively enabled for file playback and timeshifting, and absolute percentage skips
*New channel Picons
*New drivers for more WiFi cards included as default

And lots of other bug fixes.

Yes, with the WizOS iOS app pointing to a 20190207 firmware box, the TV and Guide functions don't work (the timers, recordings, and remote) do though.
However, the Gigablue Player iOS app (which is based on the same E2 Player as the WizOS app) has a functioning TV and Guide sections. It doesn't have the picons though.

Most of the recent ' "official" release notes' have just been rehashes of what I've cobbled together from the repository logs. I'll try to get something done in the next few days, but there's been nearly a year's worth of development between official releases (which is good, but it means chasing down a lot of stuff).

I recently updated over the network and now have the following problems:
1. Crash on pressing the Info (i) button.
2. LCN's have all changed and seem to move around as I add some channels to Favoutites.

I have tried doing a factory reset and setting up the unit from start, but problems remain.

Attached is a crash log after a factory reset and initial setup.

To my amateur eye, I'd say the problem lies with the EasyInfo plugin you loaded, so remove it and restart the GUI and try again -

Code: Select all

Set Alternative numbering mode setting -> enabled (MENU>>Setup>>TV>>Channel selection menu). The setting has the prompt:
"Enable to force channel numbering to start at '1' for every bouquet".

-or- you can re-order the bouquets so the Favourites bouquet is the first entry in the bouquet list.

The comments at the start of the main file of the EasyInfo plugin say "EasyInfo for Dreambox-Enigma2". It looks like the plugin depends a feature in Screens.EventViewBase that is in the DreamBox image and isn't in the Beyonwiz one.

Thanks @Grumpy_Geoff and@prl for your replies.

I don't recall loading the Easyinfo plugin. I had done a factory reset, so I would have expected that only the factory supplied plugins would have been loaded. I found Easyinfo and removed it through Setup>Plugins>Remove plugins.

That appears to have fixed the first problem. Thanks.

As for the Channel numbers, I like the channel numbers to keep their original numbers, i.e.: 70 = 7 HD; 72 = 7-Two; 73 = 7-mate, etc.
That way, if I want to go to a specific channel, I can just key in 70 to go to 7HD. Editing the service name doesn't seem to allow changing of the Channel number, only the name.

I think I got to the bottom of this issue - I think it was actually trying the Alternative numbering mode that caused the problem, because it reuses numbers from 1 to nn in the Favourites list; and so it has to change the numbering in the Terrestrial TV LCN list so that there are no duplicate numbers. So, I deleted the Favourites list , made sure that the Alternative numbering was turned off and then re-added the services that I wanted to Favourites, which used Channel numbers starting in the 300's and so did not disturb the original numbering in the Terrestrial TV LCN list.

It is possible to recreate LCN numbering in your Favourites bouquet by inserting dummy (invisible) channels to pad out the numbering.

It is best done via the Wiz's web interface.

There is no real point in maintaining a Favourites bouquet and also rely on the LCN numbering, since every time you change channel using LCNs, your default bouquet will keep being switched to the "Terrestrial TV (LCN)" bouquet.

A factory reset loads in the default settings and empty bouquets - it doesn't alter the loaded firmware or installed plugins.
The Easyinfo plugin never came with the firmware.

As MrQuade states, creating a Favourites bouquet and still keeping Alternative numbering mode disabled is a waste of time.
Instead you should use OpenWebif's Bouquet Editor to populate the Favourites bouquet with your desired services (thereby dumping the dross and simulcasts) and add the required number of Spacer entries between services (the spacers won't show in the UI) to maintain LCN-like numbering positioning.
Set Alternative numbering mode to enabled.
You should re-order the bouquets so the Favourites bouquet is the first entry in the bouquet list (so when you open the EPG either in OWIF or Wizos app the Favourites is used). You should do this first so the Bouquet Editor will show Favourites entries as numbering from 1.

There is no real point in maintaining a Favourites bouquet and also rely on the LCN numbering, since every time you change channel using LCNs, your default bouquet will keep being switched to the "Terrestrial TV (LCN)" bouquet.
No, I changed that so it should work, provided the LCN is not in the Favourites (so 7 would use the seventh item in Favourites, but 72 would take it from Terrestrial, then map back it to the number in Favourites).

Numbering in the EPG is a mess (and not just because it can only be achieved by using padding).
  • Enabling Alternative numbering mode in the Channel selection settings will start numbering for each bouquet at 1, but only in the screen GUI, not in Open Webif. Open WebIf continues the channel numbering from bouquet to bouquet even if Alternative numbering mode is enabled.
  • Moving Favourites to be the first bouquet in the bouquet selection list means that Favourites will always number from 1 in both the screen GUI and OpenWebif. But even if Alternative numbering mode is enabled, Terrestrial TV LCN will no longer be numbered correctly in OpenWebIf.
  • If Favourites is padded to have LCN-like numbering, Favourites must be ordered in strict LCN order, so it's not possible to have, 2 ABC, 20 ABC HD, 22 ABC Comedy/Kids, ... 3 SBS ONE, 30 SBS ONE HD, ... sequentially.

For me, we watch so little live TV that there seems little point in learning (the often changeable) list of LCN numbers. I just use either the channel list to change channels (and it also shows what's currently showing), and BACK to switch between the last two channels viewed.

Same with me, I don't even have the "LCN" numbers show in the channel list nor Infobar.

But Terrestrial TV LCN has to be the first bouquet in the list, which doesn't affect you because you don't use OWIF nor Wizos
For those that do, having Favourites first means that is the bouquet selected.

I also have a patch for custom bouquet numbers, so I have LCNs in station order (with the exception of the high-def channels, which I've mapped back to the single digit). For the really curious here's exactly what I have: 24, 23, 22, 2 (20), 7, 72, 73, 76, 5 (50), 53, 52, 8 (80), 82, 81, 3 (30), 31.

I've installed this update on 3 of my 4 Beyonwiz boxes (the fourth stopped working after a power cut!). At first I was perplexed as to how the multi-file select functionality worked in the media player, then I saw the little icons at bottom right and figured that the chapter skip button did the trick. But what's the other icon telling me, the one with the "R" and a calendar icon in it?

Now on to something more serious. Something's changed that's preventing some Harmony automation I have implemented. With 4 boxes, I needed a simple means for the family to hit one button to see all the recordings on the "local" box, and another button to pick from the 3 other boxes. I have shares set up to all the movie folders on all the boxes. To see the local recordings, the Harmony button "presses" the Media button followed by TV. That always shows the local recordings. For the remote boxes, in Media Player, yellow button (Location) then Other I had set up a bookmark to the Autofs folder. Then, to see all the remote boxes on a simple screen, the Harmony macro presses Media, TV, yellow and 3. The 3 selection was where the Autofs bookmark always showed up.

However, now the number of the Autofs bookmark moves around all the time. Other operations on folders etc put entries ahead of Autofs on the yellow button Location screen, so I can't automate the operation. I even see folders being added to bookmarks on the Location/Other screen without me even putting them there. Something has changed with this firmware release.

If this can't be addressed, can anyone think of another way I can automate this? I know my family/kids will have trouble navigating DOS-like tree structures looking for the autofs folder to see the other boxes, and to then navigate back to hdd/movie to see the local recordings.

Thanks for any help!

That's the sort order. An Email and calendar indicates recordings by date and other media by name.

You can map one of the buttons TV, RADIO or TEXT to go straight to autofs.
Just make sure autofs is bookmarked and it will show up as an available destination.

Absolutely can, bit of recommend using the long-press action rather than short press. The text labels look odd with bookmarks.

Those other buttons are more "secret" and a better fit for dodgy automation macros I reckon.

You just jagged it :) Those are sort and at-end actions.
Use 0 to toggle the file selection on/off, NEXT to toggle and move down, PREV to toggle and move up. If the last key was NEXT/PREV then pressing to reverse will toggle the previous.

As MrQuade points out, the Movie List Actions screen (MENU from the media list) allows you to assign one of the buttons as a 'Goto: {bookmark}'. In your case to the autofs bookmark location.
I use YELLOW for that, and long-YELLOW as Location to bring up a selectable list (and default of TV to return Home).
Can you have the family choose the share from the list present via Location? That's how I've shown my son on "his" T2 - press YELLOW/Location and choose the share from the list of shown bookmarks.

Also, if you wanted to achieve that result purely with macros and no button customisation on the Wiz, you can press MEDIA to bring up the bookmarks list, then CH- to switch to the bookmarks, navigate to the autofs bookmark with the DOWN button and OK to select.

I didn't think so, I thought they were simply alphabetical, though I may be wrong, I don't use them extensively other than to bookmark subfolder on my NAS.

Sounds complicated.

We only have 2 T2s, but also a few NAS shares, and I have links (created in File Commander) for each other's T2, and each of the shares. They are named (done in Media Player after the links are created) so it's easy to see what is what & where and they appear as normal folders. Local recordings appear underneath the folders (of course that depends on your sort setting). My wife has no problems using that system.
If this can't be addressed, can anyone think of another way I can automate this? I know my family/kids will have trouble navigating DOS-like tree structures looking for the autofs folder to see the other boxes, and to then navigate back to hdd/movie to see the local recordings.

There's a setting to prevent navigating out of the Movie folder, which should help. Media > Menu > Settings > Root Directory. Also there's a "Home" button (RED by default?), which will return to the "Home" directory. That Root Directory probably should be set as "/media/hdd/movie" by default to avoid confusing new users (ie. sans PC CLI experience).

I can't think of many reasons to change the default setting for the media selection root to be changed from its current value, /media. After all, all of the places in the file system that are accessible via /media are also accessible via YELLOW Location in the media selection screen.

Also, I think that if you set the media root to /media/hdd/movie, and then go to another device (like a network share) using YELLOW Location, you'll find that by successively using Parent Directory, you'll be able to get above /media/hdd/movie (and only get caught back inside the "root" once you navigate back into /media/hdd/movie :)

It's pretty hard to make that root setting work in the way that people might think it should work.

Also, the usual Windows CLI file system presentation is quite different in many ways from Unix/Linux filesystems. One of the things I don't like all that much about the file browsing mechanisms in enigma2 is their attempt to turn the Linux filesystem into something that looks like the usual Windows device-centric view of filesystems.

There's one reason: it's already possible to navigate all of the file system with YELLOW.

Another is as sdlawson stated: "that his kids would get lost". I know my wife did when we first got our T2, until I found that "Root Directory setting".

Also, as the Fat Controller would say; "It can cause confusion and delay."
But that's only IF you use YELLOW.

Seems to work OK for me.

My goodness, you ask a simple question, and what do you get? Answer after answer after answer. Sheesh!

Well, I've certainly learnt a lot of new tricks and can achieve what I'd like in many different ways now. Thank you all! I've also learnt to look in the onscreen help more!

I do like the simlink idea, because everything is on the one screen in the Media Player. However, I am a bit confused as to the sort order in Media Player. There seems to be every sort order under the sun in there, except sort recordings by date but folder by name. Any way of doing that? It would be nice to group all your shares in a predictable order (and the rest of your folders come to that).

There is no way to do that unfortunately.

I personally sort by name and then by reverse date. That way, each series recording is kept together and then when you play the oldest one, and get to the end, the next recording in that series will be played (assuming media player is configured to "play next").

Another alternative to sorting your recordings is to install the Series2Folder plugin. This plugin allows you to move all recordings from a series into their own folder automatically. It doesn't sit all recordings from oldest to newest, bit it does help organise the clutter.

In what order do folders sort then? Based on the dates etc. of the files within the folder?
