USB Tuner vanished

Post by cde » Sun Dec 09, 2018 21:37

Just updated to 20180417 on my T2 and the USB tuner no longer appears. Did the usual stuff, plugged/unplugged, shut down, reboot etc no luck. Am I missing something to get it to detect?

As in MENU>>Information>>Devices?
No 'Tuner C' detected (only A and B)?

Does it detect if plugged into a PC?

And have you plugged it directly into the USB port or is it via an extension cable? - I have had some dodgy extension cables cause this sort of problem.

Didn't try it in a PC (will do tonight).
Did try it in the front port as well as rear, no luck.

Plugged it into my laptop and no device or unknown device detected. Curious it appears to have died during the upgrade.

Bummer. I use Bluey USB tuners anyway as they work better than the Beyonwiz supplied units. Like this unit. Can't vouch for this seller though - mine went bust at some stage.

At a 1/5th of the price its worth a look. Did you have to load any additional drivers for the T Series to recognise it?

No. It is recognized on the default drivers on both our T3 and U4. I believe the T2 has the same drivers available too.

Edit: In

Grumpy_Geoff sets out all you need to know to use it on a T2.

cde already upgraded to 20180417, so the driver is installed.

As per this post, I wouldn't buy any unit inless it details the chip in the specs.

Random examples (can't vouch for the sellers).
Blackie - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/292623852501 $12.66
Bluey - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/381673558300 $10.29 + $0.39 postage

[with IEC/PAL/Belling Lee connector] -
Whitey - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/153174470829 $7.89
Blackie - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/202394751127 $8.59

Don't believe any 'Chullora' posting location, they'll all come from China initially.

Been burnt by Ebay resellers from China too many times. Handful I found looked like they could only run 720p at best. Not in a rush, so i'll look around.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Sure, up to you.
We've all had our Blueys and Blackies sent from China, AFAIK.

You could also contact Beyonwiz support and ask them what their position is on a tuner that didn't last 18 months. I'm sure the ACCC would think they should last longer. Whether it's worth the delay/hassle/fight could be a different issue though.

The ones that Grumpy_Geoff linked to are definitely the tuners you want. It was only the sellers he couldn't vouch for.

Denon AVR-X3400h, LG OLED65C7T TV

Wrong. The tuner does not care about the resolution. It will treat crappy infomercial 320x200 footage the same way as UHDTV 4k footage. It's just a bit stream modulated into a 7MHz band in the DVB-T spectrum.

Once you get the bunch of bits from the tuner you need to decode them, but everything before that part is completely resolution agnostic. Same way your Ethernet network card or hard disk controller don't care about the resolution of the video you are playing.
