No Audio/ bad video on T3 after update to 16.1

Post by mick_queensland » Wed Feb 07, 2018 18:44

Hi,

1st a snapshot of my setup.
I had a T2 and P2 with a Samsung TV and they worked just fine. Both on HDMI into the TV. I also had a T3 into my Pioneer TV through HDMI and that worked fine. I moved the T2 out to somewhere else. I replaced it with the T3 which was working fine on the Pioneer TV. I used the same HDMI cable from the T2 for the T3 into the Samsung TV.
Foolishly, I during the swapover I updated the Firmware from 4.4 to 16.1 on the T3.

Now the fault. There is no sound from TV or from media files when played. And the video looks like it is over-driven, poor quality with bright areas of the picture "flaring" to purple. I tried to install the firmware again with exact same results. When I did the update, I followed the instruction and I said NO to the "Restore Settings" I retuned, setup the network again with same results. I looked into the AV settings and there isnt really anything you can change. When you press audio during playback is gives the message "only one audio track"

My guess is the HDMI drivers.

Right now I am going to roll back the FW to 4.4 again, which I have from the last update and it definitely worked. I will post results here soon, just to see if it is the FW or something else.

Any ideas?
Cheers, Mick

Not sure about the video issue other than to suggest trying another HDMI cable.

The T3 may have been damaged in the move too. Had it ever had a repair? If not it is well overdue to suffer a power supply failure which can have all sorts of unpredictable results.

My advice though is to not bother going to 16.1. that is pointless at this stage as 17.5 series firmware is the currently supported release.

Hi there,

ok I rolled back to 4.4 and same same. I re-seated the HDMI cable and no change. Oh dear something is broken.

I will fault find tomorrow as SWMBO is using the tele at the moment.

I will try the HDMI cable first, also prove the HDMI cable is good and then prove the TV HDMI input.

No repairs so far. Oh no, I was hoping not to have another PSU problem... warkus!!!

I will report back with more tomorrow.

cheers, Mick

PS, thanks for the tip on the FW update, will look into 17.5, but 16.1 is what is on the Download page.

Beyonwiz haven't announced 17.5 for some reason, but it is definitely the only current site version.

Look in the beta forum for the latest 17.5 USB image. If you are going to update from 4.4 then definitely just skip over 16.1 and go straight to the latest.

Hi guys,

thanks for the tips on the FW update. Will get 17.5 soon.

Back to my fault, (my fault?? lol) this fault doesn't belong here in the FW image. It was a simple bad connection of the HDMI cable. Even though I had re-seated that same cable yesterday it had still had the same fault. Today I was able to play around and I swapped the two HDMI cable over and lo and behold, both wizzers now work just fine. So, I suspect that the cable plug was not making great contact in the socket and after moving a few times it came good.
So thanks for all help, put this one down to doing too many things at the same time. I should have moved the wizzer and then tested it prior to FW update.

Cheers, Mick
