Unofficial feed

Post by adoxa » Sun Dec 11, 2022 22:42

I've made a feed available on my website. It contains updated IMDb (and skins; same as the patch that was posted); IceTV; and picons (split in two, I think T4 users will also need to explicitly download the "picons-lcd" package). I tested the updates were picked up, but I haven't actually tested they do update; IceTV users in particular might want to wait for some brave soul to report it works...

I've been running that version of IceTV on our in-use T4 since October (but not using adoxa's plugin), but having some more confirmation that it works would be good.

I'll also look at making a script to add adoxa's feeds to the default feeds.

For the picons, the system picon package (enigma2-plugin-picons-tv-australia) has both the normal on-screen picons and the T4's front panel picons, and all models have both picon setups whether they use them or not.

The original picons package has both, but mine only contains the on-screen picons, T4 users will need the new lcd package for the front panel picons.

I was making an oblique (perhaps too oblique) suggestion that you might package your picon feed the same way that the system package is constructed.

No, the lcd picons are only used by the T4, so only the T4 should have them. (I wouldn't bother if I was using the normal build process, but since I'm not I can easily make them separate.)

Added Deswapper (WIN changed the extended description to space-dot, dropping the trailing space).

Hi,

I installed the feed ipk, and received this message:
1_0_1_232_231_1010_EEEE0000_0_0_0_20230401131639.jpg

Installed OK, it appears in the list of removable plug-ins, and I installed Deswapper.

When I tried an update I received this message:
1_0_1_232_231_1010_EEEE0000_0_0_0_20230401132635.jpg

When I checked Feed state I got this:
1_0_1_232_231_1010_EEEE0000_0_0_0_20230401133700.jpg

Thanks,

OK after running "Feeds off", which I didn't know existed (I only had one that switched to beta feed, and another that switched back to production feed).

I used:

Code: Select all

cat /etc/opkg/*-feed.conf | grep http

Thanks for that, now I know it's OK to run on my wife's V2.

Hi all,

Silly question, but should I be turning my feeds off with the above scripts to prevent a malicious actor from attempting an update (if they ever buy the domain)?

What is the risk if I turn it off?
What are the risks if I leave it on?

Thanks.

As you say, a malicious update. Seems pretty unlikely, though (what are they going to do, ransom your recordings?).

I could easily think of nasty things that someone who could generate a fake update for a Beyonwiz might do, and the problems that they might cause may not be restricted to the PVR itself. But I agree that it's an unlikely scenario.

Two questions

1. Has anything been updated in the last few months? I hadn't tried the unofficial feed but happy to do so if there are now updates.

2. I have copy of the Merlin Music Player which I would be happy to pass on to be added to the feed?

I am working on some fixes to Series2Folder:
  1. Trying to debug why it works just fine on one of an ATV user's PVRs, but only works when run manually, but not in the background, on the other. One unusual thing in the case is the user has both PVRs recording to (different) Windows shares. If anyone else has had any issues like this, I'd be interested to hear. Communication with the user with the problem is via email with an 8 hour time zone difference, so things are proceeding slowly.
  2. Allowing Series2Folder to operate with movie selection screens that do in-memory caching of recording/media file details (EnhancedMovieCenter, I'm looking at you). The same user found the problem (I hadn't found it in testing because I wasn't aware of EMC caching and it's off by default). I have a fix, but I want to get 1. fixed first.
1. may affect Beyonwiz users, but I don't recall any reports of it happening. 2. should not affect Beyonwiz users (unless I break something else fixing it).

I'll let adoxa know, or post here, when the updates have been committed to the main OEAlliance enigma2-plugins repository.

I have experienced flakiness in S2F. Works fine for ages moving home and away to a folder in the background but lately, they pile up in the movies directory, which is on the internal HDD on the rear U4. Works fine on the T4.

When they pile up, does the problem ever resolve itself? And does a manual move work to move them to a folder?

Works manually. Never resolves automatically.

Last night it was fine moving HDMI-IN recordings to a folder. We'll see tonight if it resets itself to move today's episode.

Thanks, Paul. I still haven't heard back from the OpenATV user about tests I asked them to run with added debug code in Series2Folder. When the cause of their issue becomes clearer, it might clarify what's causing your missed moves, too.

Update: Tonight it's working properly again. All series recordings moved to their folders.

I had fewer active recordings tonight than each night last week. Not sure if that is relevant.

Strange.

You've mentioned Home and Away recordings (presumably from FTA) and HDMI-IN recordings as not being moved, but does the problem happen only for particular shows, or, when the moves stop working, does it affect all new recordings on the PVR?

Also: do you normally keep the PVR in standby or in shutdown when it's not in use? And if you keep it in standby, do you sometimes put it into standby while you's in the media selection screen (MEDIA from live TV)? I ask about this because moves are deferred while the media selection screen is open (so that recordin gs don't "disappear" on you while you're browsing the list), even when the PVR is in standby.

The number of recordings running at any time shouldn't matter, though it won't try to move recordings that are currently being made.

Hi Peter,

To clarify, Home and Away FTA were not moved last week but my manual HDMI-IN recordings were moved. Other FTA shows were also being moved. Maybe 3 or 4 or more others some nights.

On another occasion a few weeks back, Masterchef wasn't being moved. For that show, I manually moved the recordings and I redid the IceTV timer because it appeared to be recording SD instead of HD. H&A is always HD.

The U4 is on 24/7 but reboots daily in the early hours, around 6:00 AM. I never put it on standby. Sometimes it has recordings running until around 1:00 AM.

I have seen it move completed recordings like Hard Quiz while recording a later program.

Occasionally I leave it on the media screen when I switch to YouTube on the TV app around 11:00 PM but I return to the TV and clear that screen before bedtime - around 3:00-4:00 AM. If recordings have built up and I don't move them, they stay in the Movie folder, even if another recording starts and finishes.

Cheers, Paul

Series2Folder should do an automatic run about 2 minutes after the enigma2 application starts after a reboot, and should process any recordings that it's somehow missed.

It does an automatic run shortly after the completion of every recording. It will move completed recordings even if there are recordings currently being made. It just won't move the recordings that are currently in progress, and it will defer processing moves while you're in the media selection screen.

Even though the ATV user's issue seems to be permanent on one PVR (and not a problem on another one), and your issue seems to be intermittent, it seems possible that there might be a common underlying cause. The ATV user says that they won't have time to do the tests I've suggested with a version of Series2Folder with more debug for a little while. When they do, I hope that will clarify what's going on.

I'd be happy to run a debug version if that helps you but my problem is intermittent. Can be ok for weeks. Not a problem on the T4.

It just occurred to me that an issue may be in the folder name. Warning: This next bit could be a furphy. Can't say it has corresponded to a failed move. Sometimes on the PC, the folder name of a folder may not appear as "Dr Who" but in the style "0Ax7ghyu" but displays as "Dr Who" on the U4. (Made up example.) IE, it appears weird on the PC but is invisible on the U4.

That is strange. I'd be interested in details if it happens again. I agree that it is likely to be unrelated to the problem of moves not being made when they should be.

I get something like that when the folder name contains a character that is valid in Unix, but not in Windows.
E.g. the colon in "Thomas and Friends: All Engines Go!". On my PC, this folder name appears as "TAMO2M~2".

That problem can be avoided (on newly created folders) by enabling "Use portable folder names" in the Series2Folder configuration screen. Use portable names should be enabled by default.

But it will mean moving all the recordings from the folders with names containing characters not allowed by NTFS into the new folders that will be created by replacing each disallowed character by "_".

The disallowed characters that are replaced by "_" are: /.\:*?<>|" and control characters (0x00-0x1f).

Updated IMDb (restored the "Trivia" label) and removed the picons (along with the whole T4 feed).

Not sure if this will be of interest to anyone, but I've added "Quick Move" (source), a plugin overriding the numbers in the movie list to quickly move to a folder (location or recordings).

Sorry, I don't understand "...overriding the numbers in the movie list..." - what numbers? The date and time? Why does that matter?

Normally in the movie list the 1 to 9 buttons go to the movie starting with an SMS-style letter; Quick Move changes them to select a folder (short press) or move recording(s) (long press).

An online update is available with a new picon setup that contains the picon for the new NITV HD, and some picon updates for some regions.

Thanks to peteru for making it available.
