Youtube not working

I have a U4 and I recently discovered a fault with Youtube. I get the error message: "There was an error in extract video url: No supported formats found in video info!"

Any suggestions how to fix this?

Thanks

Greg

I gave up on the inbuilt YouTube app. If it's still available, the TSTUBE plugin was a substitute but I use a WIZTV dongle which has inbuilt YouTube functionality connected to HDMI IN.

Still, I would not recommend it as I think there are better options now.

TSTube isn't in the Beyonwiz feed for the 19.3-series firmware. Previously I grabbed a copy whilst one of my boxes was still on a 17.5-series f/w. I've just installed it on 20191106. It fires up and displays images of the search result, but won't play a video -

Code: Select all

{7569}< 7119.778> error in resolving url
The same video plays fine with the YouTube plugin.

Good to know Geoff. It wasn't great.
The same video plays fine with the YouTube plugin.

Compared to YouTube TV, I found the plug-in to be very basic. OK for basic searches or known sites whereas the TV version is easier to use, offers recommendations and remembers subscriptions in an accessible format. The dongles saving grace is the YouTube TV style plugin. But the OP may be content with basic access.

Spoken as an unrepentant addict

YouTube TV requires the Opera web browser, which is not available for the U4 nor V2. I just tried YouTube TV on our T4 and it played audio but no video. There were chunks of the display missing too.

Same here on the T4.

An unfortunate omission on the V2 I feel. Probably the Koreans assume we all will update our TVs.

I got the dongle for Stan/Netflix but use it overwhelmingly for YouTube via HDMI IN. For T4/U4 owners, an option if, like me, the TV doesn't support streaming apps. As I said earlier, there are better options than the dongle now.

Blame Youtube for locking down their service, and blame the chip manufacturers for making their closed sourced drivers play badly with the browser software we have available :(.

You don't need a U4 or T4 to use the dongle, it will work just fine plugged straight into the TV.
Any cheap Android box or a Apple TV will give similar or better results.

Indeed. Too focused on my own configuration.

My other half much prefers never adjusting the TV or changing the Denon inputs so I route Foxtel and the dongle through a switch to HDMI IN. If ever I forget to switch it back to Foxtel I cop a blast. As far as she is concerned, Foxtel is channel 18.

Thanks guys for the discussion.

If I want to search for information on Youtube I can use my laptop, phone or tablet. From there I can save to a playlist etc for the future. If I simply want to watch something on Youtube on the TV, I can use the TV app.

Where I found the BW excellent, is downloading something to keep in a resource library. It could be some interesting clip on grafting or other gardening technique, a speaker on a significant subject worth keeping etc. This is what I miss the most. Any way of doing this other than trying to record via Chromecast and the HDMI input which I find flaky and takes a long time if someone is speaking for an hour!

Cheers

Greg

You can install the E2iStream plugin on the Wiz. See viewtopic.php?f=45&t=13755&start=50#p183454 for installation.
The E2iStream plugin has a YouTube stteam. For those that I tried, the E2iStream plugin's YouTube stream plays those videos fine that the YouTube plugin wouldn't.
You can also download the videos to the Wiz and play later (for any of the streams, not just those from YouTube).

I just tried to run this script but received this message: "wget: error getting response: connection reset by peer" Execution Finished.

I should add that I couldn't get the BW to see the USB drive (front panel) so I created a new folder under movie and copied the file from pc to bw via the network.

The script connected to softrix.co.uk with two ip addresses - 217.168.160.0.170:80 and ....170:443

Greg

You were too slow. It seems to have disappeared about a week ago from codermik's Softrix web site, and he's also gone dark with the public Facebook page too. Perhaps his private Facebook group still functions, I wouldn't know.

The latest version is dated 3-Jan-2020 (as auto-updated by my installation of the plugin).
There's a download to the full plugin here - https://www.latest-files.com/enigma2.ph ... =E2Istream
Click on the 'E2istream-2020.01.03.zip.html' link to download the file 'E2istream-2020.01.03.zip'.
Copy that zip file to a USB thumbdrive.
Copy the attached script to the same thumbdrive. The script is shown below for reference.
Insert the thumbdrive in the Wiz. Open File Commander (MENU>>Sources / Files). Open the USB thumbdrive, select the script file and press OK to get the options, view the script first if you wish, then choose the run option.
The script will extract the plugin files and reboot the Wiz. Remove the thumbdrive when it reboots.

After the reboot, when back in live TV, press BLUE to bring up the "extensions" menu, choose the (n)E2iStream entry. The plugin will start, and run through to install some requisites - accept all defaults.
Then open settings, set option to 'Disable live at plugin start' (to stop live TV timeshifting).
You're off and running.

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
# unzips the full e2iStream plugin to the correct path
# then reboots
e2iStream_in='E2istream-2020.01.03.zip'
dirname=$(realpath $(dirname $0))
cd /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions
# no need to mkdir IPTVPlayer as zip has that directory as top level
if [ -d IPTVPlayer ]; then
echo -e '\n*** Old installation exists'
echo "Please remove 'IPTVPlayer' directory from path: /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/"
    ls -ald /usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/IPTVPlayer
    exit
fi
echo 'Unzipping...'
if [ ! -f ${dirname}/${e2iStream_in} ]; then
echo "Whoa, can't find input file '${e2iStream_in}'"
    echo '***************************'
else
    unzip ${dirname}/${e2iStream_in} -q
    sync
    echo 'Rebooting...'
echo 'You can remove the USB once the PVR shuts down between during the reboot'
    sleep 1
    reboot
fi

Did it install okay with the script (as I'd never run it in anger :)).
Did the plugin fire-up and work?

Worked perfectly exactly as suggested. :D :D

Had to use Firefox to download the zip file as chrome blocked the pop-up that does the save dialogue. Installed and rebooted, went to the update dialogue, rebooted again and appeared in the plugin menu.

I have weeded out some of the irrelevant or not working entries. I note to exit some sites, stop is the essential key.
