Kayo Sports on U4
is kayo Sports avail via the U4?
https://kayosports.com.au/
considering the problems i have with recording Foxtel on the U4 (am back using the DP-P2) because of the HDMI In issue, this streaming mob may be perfect as it has the sports I like, can ditch Foxtel, & record / edit sports & pass on to a mate who's a quadriplegic.

No, but there is a plugin available for Kodi, and Kodi runs on the new Beyonwiz V2.

I haven't tested it myself as I don't have a Kayo subscription, but I believe WizHQ has tested it. It is also shown in the screenshot of Kodi that was included in the Beyonwiz promo emails.

Re: Kayo Sports on U4
I installed Kayo on the HDMI dongle connected to the U4 HDMI-IN with thoughts of dumping Foxtel as too expensive. It works that way but I didn't take up the subscription. Be aware that Kayo is owned by Fox Sports so you're not escaping that universe altogether, just getting a better deal for the sports package.kentdorf72 wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 17:06is kayo Sports avail via the U4?

Don't understand your recording problem though - I record mountains of stuff via the HDMI-IN on the U4 without problems. Foxtel via splitter works ok for me.

Re: Kayo Sports on U4
My understanding is kentdorf72 has an old foxtel box that has scart output, so he was using SCART->RCA->RCA to HDMI converter->U4 and getting audio problems when recording from HDMI-IN (viewing only was okay).
A simpler conversion path may have been better, e.g. SCART to HDMI Cablechick SCART to HDMI Converter.
I know casting Kayo to a Chromecast works fine, so I'd imagine if the Chromecast was output to a suitable HDMI splitter that removes the HDCP (which we know exists) then that splitter input on the U4 should be fine.
Re: Kayo Sports on U4
I somehow missed the part about recording Kayo....
The Kayo plugin on Kodi won't let you record the streamed footage AFAIK.
If you want recording, then one of the HDMI-IN solutions is the trick.
I am assuming that your mate's condition is such that he is able to use the recordings you give him, but is unable to operate a Kayo streaming device of his own.

Yes, Chromecast works when I plug it into the splitter instead of Foxtel so it is an option worth considering.Grumpy_Geoff wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 09:38

Re: Kayo Sports on U4
Buy a Vodafone TV (VTV) for $72 from their website, sideload the Kayo app then install the Kodi addon (which MrQuade has already linked). This gives you perfect video/audio and as a bonus, will also give you an EPG (which the standard Kayo app STILL doesn't have... foxtel are sooooo pathetic).
Works just fine for me.

Re: Kayo Sports on U4
Can confirm Kayo also works via Kodi on the Beyonwiz V2, you need to sideload a HLS adaptive streaming plugin in addition to the setup link Star6key posted, I will post some more info in the V2 section when I get a chance, video quality is great (1080p depending on internet speed) and you have the option of watching live, watching from the begining or catch up, you can even pause and skip back on live.

Can I install Kodi or Kodidirect onto my T4? If so what are the steps involved ie where can it downloaded from and how do I install it.

Re: Kayo Sports on U4
thought I'd add my questions to this thread to keep them together.
I currently have a iq4 to watch foxsports 506 through my T4 (or U4), but I'm getting tired of the expense of foxtel just to watch/record f1 and the v8's, so was looking at options to dump foxtel altogether.
Seems like Kayo Sports offers what I want, but I want to know how I can keep doing what I currently do, i.e. run it through my T4 for recording/playback.
What do I need to get to continue doing what I already do now with Kayo Sports ?

What device do you want to stream Kayo Sports to? If it's the U4, you can record from a stream.

OK... what I said also applies to the T4, but you didn't really answer my question: "What device do you want to stream Kayo Sports to?"

Re: Kayo Sports on U4
oh you're right, to a projector mostly.
But if I can stream to one, I should then be able to stream it to a tv as well.

Re: Kayo Sports on U4
Streaming directly to the projector or TV? If so, the only way you could record would be if the projector or TV had a HDMI out for their displayed A/V, and they generally don't.

Re: Kayo Sports on U4
We should probably clarify further. The projector is what is displaying the picture, but what is the smart device that is doing the streaming?
A Smart TV would be able to stream Kayo itself using an app if one was available, but I don't know that many projectors have that sort of native functionality.
Presumably the streaming device is/will be a Chromecast, or a Android/Apple TV box of some sort that has a HMI out?
All you need to do is connect that device to the T4 or U4 in exactly the same manner that you have your IQ box connected up.

Re: Kayo Sports on U4
ah, so getting hold of a chromecast, streaming Kayo through that, and thence in to the T4/U4 is what I'm sort of thinking.
What about copy protection stuff, or just run the chromecast through a hdmi splitter as I currently do from my iq4 box ?
sorry for my vague answers before.

Re: Kayo Sports on U4
Yep, as-per prl's reply, Chromecast is buttoned up with DRM, so that needs to be defeated with the splitter.
The new "Chromecast with Google TV" looks to be a ripper of a unit. Well worth buying one since it comes with a remote gives you a proper media player experience without needing to be driven exclusively with a phone (though you can still do that too).
The only concern would be to ensure that the device can be forced to output stereo only. If you stream Dolby or DTS from it, then the T4 and U4 will not be able to process the audio. I think that the T4 and U4 are configured to send the appropriate EDID info to the HDMI-In connected device to specify that it only takes PCM audio, but it might be worth ensuring that all the audio bitstreaming options are disabled on the streaming device too.
