T4 access via Filezilla - Fixed - or, wasn't actually broken

Post by NoDeity » Thu Jun 25, 2015 13:41

Having trouble connecting to the T4 using Filezilla. The T3 from memory only needed "root" as a user name with no password, but that doesn't work for the T4. Is the T4 different in this aspect?

I've had no trouble connecting using WinSCP in FTP mode.

What about the connection is failing? Is it telling you the password is wrong? Or is it just not establishing a connection at all?

Status: Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.
Command: USER root
Response: 331 Password required for root.
Command: PASS
Response: 530 User root access denied.
Error: Critical error: Could not connect to server

Here's my test with FileZilla 3.11.0.3

Code: Select all

Resolving address of beyonwizt4
Status:	Connecting to 192.168.42.192:21...
Status:	Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Status:	Insecure server, it does not support FTP over TLS.
Status:	Connected
Status:	Retrieving directory listing...
Status:	Directory listing of "/" successful
This is on a unit that has just had 20150624 flashed from USB.

Don't hide your IP/connection details. There could be important clues there and hiding this information does absolutely nothing in terms of security or privacy.

One thing occurred to me. Did you end up copying the settings from the T3 to the T4? You may want to try flashing the latest T4 beta image and testing without restoring the settings first, then restore settings and retest. That should give you a clue as to whether you need to change something in the settings.

Only used the USB that came with it and the above info was after updating to the latest T4 beta. Are you using "root" as a username? I noticed that line is missing from your screen shot. Thanks

Many routers allow you to network access the T series by their network hostname, which defaults to beyonwizt2/beyonwizt3/beyonwizt4 as appropriate.

You can also use your browser to connect to them using FTP: ftp://root:none@beyonwizt4/ (or t2 or t3 as appropriate). The "none" is just filler: it's the FTP password, but it's ignored. But if there isn't something there the the browser will ask for a username/password. At least Firefox does.
