Re: connecting T3 to my synology
Ethernet cables and an Ethernet switch. Cat5e cables will be sufficient, but you may want to purchase a GigE switch, rather than just 10/100 Ethernet. The T3 will work just fine with GigE equipment.

Re: connecting T3 to my synology
So, I'm assuming then that the T3 is already on the wifi network.
The easiest way to connect to a network device is to go to Setup>Network>Network Browser and scan the network.
Select your synology NAS and then it will either show the available shares or it will wait for a long time and not show the shares.
If it shows the shares then select the share you want to mount and press ok which will prompt you with the mount manager and also username and password if necessary. The default settings in the mount manager should be ok.
If network browser doesn't give you a list of shares then you need to configure the mount manager manually.

Ok so i have done the scan and my synology NAS comes up. I have some options to choose from, close, mount manger, rescan and expert.
I can also press ok to expand this host.

Select the synology and expand to see if your shares come up. Then follow as per the previous post.

It often doesn't. You will need to add the mount manually.
Select add a new mount through mount manager.

Re: connecting T3 to my synology
Yes, I don't have a synology NAS so I'm not sure if there are specific settings
Normal settings off the top of my head are
Either autofs or fstab
CIFS (or NFS)
IP address
Name of share on server
Leave mount options as is
Enter a username and/or password on second page
Windows 8 can be set up the same but if you want to use the network browser to setup the windows 8 share you have to switch off password protected sharing which is a windows 7/8 feature that prevents you browsing your shares unless you have an account on the PC.

IP address is the IP address of your server. Share name is the name of the share on the server that you want to access.

It should appear as a source in the menu and as one of the locations when you press the yellow button in media list

Hmm
That's two people getting very similar problems.
Anybody else know what's wrong as this is normally quite straightforward.

Re: connecting T3 to my synology
Ensuring that the NAS has the latest firmware is not a bad idea. If I recall correctly, someone had issues with a NAS box a few months ago. They ended up visiting the forums for the NAS device and found out that a few people were having issues with various other media boxes too. They upgraded the NAS firmware and it was all smooth sailing from there. This may not be the solution for you, but it's worth trying.
