Streaming from NAS

Post by kiwirich » Wed Oct 29, 2014 19:57

I have just setup my T3 (and love it so far) after ditching the Humax 4Tune because of reliability issues. I have an internal hard drive but am trying to stream MP4 from a Synology Diskstation. Some MP4 stream fine however some launch to a a black screen and never get past 0 seconds. The files are encoded differently (see attachments), with the Galaxy Quest file working fine but Lilo and Stitch not. If I copy Lilo and Stitch to the T3 hard drive it plays fine, just not when streaming. Any ideas on why one would stream and the other won't? As an aside, they both streamed fine on the 4Tune.

If it plays from the local harddisk, then can I assume you are streaming via DLNA when coming from the NAS?

If so, can you try mapping a share from the NAS and playing it like that (via SMB or NFS)?

I am not a fan of DLNA. It is trying to be a fancy protocol that seems to have a multitude of limitations and interoperability issues.

Thanks MrQuade. I was utilising DLNA to browse. Mounting a network share worked, but only if I access by clicking Sources / select the Diskstation as the source to be scanned and select 'Watch Movies'. If I go direct to the Diskstation submenu under the Source menu, I can browse the files but not play them.

That's strange, because I have a Synology Diskstation and I have a mountpoint called NAS which points to the "download" directory on the Diskstation.
I can browse the files and play them ok.

You can get clearer screen grabs from the T3 using Open Webif on your browser.

Thanks for the info Fester1952. I am interested in how you browse them? For example, do you select the NAS share name under the Source menu?
