U4 - Can't record or copy files to network drive (but can read).)

Post by Star6key » Fri May 13, 2022 12:04

So I have just attached a 2tb usb drive (I've called netdrive) to my Asus RT-AC86U router, and want to be able to record from the U4 to that drive. I've created a network mount to netdrive -

and a bookmark to the recording folder on netdrive. I go to the epg and set up a timer for something currently running. Change the location to the saved bookmark and press OK. I exit from the epg and immediately get a pop up -

Now I know the drive is NOT read only as I've transferred files from the pc (win10) to the drive (including a recording from the U4). I can play the files on the U4, so I know the network mount works.
If I try to copy/move a file from the U4 (using the U4) to netdrive, I get -

Anyone have any ideas?

(in case it matters, netdrive is formatted as NTFS and has 1.8 TB of free space)

When I tried something similar some time ago I quickly discovered my router was extremely slow for access to the USB attached storage. Just saying.

Perhaps it's the space in the path?
Is the server share really named "CONTENTS (at NetDrive_2TB)"?

The path as shown in the move from Trash error is actually a DLNA path.
"Browse Folders" may be a protected directory - I can't even cd to it -

Code: Select all

root@beyonwizv2:/media/upnp/RT-AC67U-4878# cd Browse\ Folders/
-bash: cd: Browse Folders/: No such file or directory
I suspect DLNA file system is mounted read-only (or is read-only at the server).

Too many problems, and I've now I've lost interest in the whole thing.

Please delete this thread.

That form of the "Write error while recording" error only appears in firmware from early 2019 and before. I suggest that you update your firmware. More recent firmware will give a bit more information.

The "[Errno 30] Read-only file system" error is being reported by the operating system because the operating system doesn't have permission to (or it's physically impossible to) write to the file system.

Since the file system is a network mount, that suggests that the OS is able to mount the remote file system, but it doesn't have the required access permission to write to it, possibly because the user that mounted the filesystem doesn't have permission on the server to write it.

No need to give up so quickly :)

Use the mount point rather than the uPnP location and it should work. You've just tried to write to the wrong location.

My recollection is that with the Asus RT-AC86U router you have to specify if the attahed USB HDD is to work at USB 2 or USB 3; you may need to check that setting. You may also need to check the sleep setttings (if there are any) for both the router and the attached USB storage.
