T4 can't open on desktop

Post by csutak40 » Tue Mar 17, 2020 14:12

I've got a desktop and 2 laptop computers. They are all Win10. Until a few weeks ago, I could open the T4 folder on all 3. All of a sudden, I got an error message on the desktop. Only for the T4, the T2 still opens fine. I have no trouble on either laptop.
At first I just thought Windows was having a bit a of a hissy fit, tried rebooting...
I can open the web interface on the desktop, FWIW
I tried remapping it, no dice.
I am not that much of an expert on computers, so I am sure I am doing something wrong, but not sure what. I am nearly sure it is a computer problem, not a Wiz problem, but thought I'd ask here first

Is the address of the beyonwizt4 still 192.168.1.112?

It's possible that the desktop is getting a mismatch between the name and the IP address. Did you ever manually make a mapping between the T4 and IP, maybe by editing a hosts file or something?

Find out the IP address of the T4 - OWIF will tell you in 'Box Info' at the bottom in 'Network Interface', or MENU>>Information>>Network.
Does access to the 'Movie' share work if you open \\{IP-address-of-T4} in a Windows Explorer address bar?

It is still the same - checked that
I'm afraid that (about to show my lack of knowledge) this was about the only question I understood.
I don't think I have ever done anything to the mapping, certainly not recently
I only attempted to map it this time, as it was suggested to me that this may fix it.

Judy

Hallelujah!
I was just re-re-reading this, and realised that this is something I hadn't tried.
It works!

Yep. I recently clean installed Win10 on a laptop with a new HDD & you wouldn’t believe the trouble I had getting the same named folder on each of our 3 laptops shared between those 3 laptops. Or maybe you would. :)

Just map \\192.168.1.112 instead of \\beyonwizt4 - either edit the existing mapping or make a new one.
Perhaps the desktop PC has had a recent Windows update that has stuffed up its name lookup. Although, you said it could open OWIF (which I assume you do via http://beyonwizt4 and not via http://192.168.1.112).

Yes, I now managed to map it by right clicking on the open folder. Thank you!
