Trying to Complete URL- http://beta.beyonwiz.org/beyonwiz/17.5/ ... t13000.ipk).

Hi Can someone assist with this I found it somewhere in the forum and I am about to install my Wireless Dongle on my U4
My first question mainly is' does this concern me, is it still relevant :) Or shall I just proceed as per the Manual and Video???

What is Sneaker Net ?

Quote:
... getting the wireless dongle working on your U4, you can download a screenshot PVR plugin to your computer and transfer it via sneaker-net to your U4 and install it.

(but for a U4, the URL to download for the correct plugin is -http://beta.beyonwiz.org/beyonwiz/17.5/ ...] t13000.ipk)

Thanks Cheers Dazzla_1

It's where you plug a USB stick into the device, copy the file, then use your sneakers to walk it another device and copy it again. :)

It's an IT joke for when you don't have a network, and need to move stuff around by hand.

We used that a lot in my earlier working days.

Thought exercise  :-

Bandwidth of a box of "big" microSD cards FedX'd across the country?

In the early 2000s, I was involved in putting a largish (at the time) database, IIRC, about 1.4TB, that was stored on CDs in a remote location with only 64kb/s (or perhaps 128kb/s) networking. While I don't think a literal station wagon was involved, the data was copied onto tape cartridges and couriered to us.

Even more recently, the data that was collected by the Event Horizon Telescope to image the supermassive black hole Messier 87* was collected on disk drives (~350TB/day of observation, over about 6 days) and flown to central locations for processing, because the current Internet infrastructure would have been too slow.

Too easy. :)

The flying distance Sydney-Perth is about 3300km, cruising speed for a passenger jet is about 900km/hr, so that makes about 3h40 min or 13000sec.

That would then be about 38MB/s per 500GB microSD card. Or for hard drives, about 460MB/s per 6TB harddrive, but you probably get much higher bandwidth/kg from the microSD cards.

That would be downgraded by any local transport and transshipping delays, of course, and the bandwidth decreases in inverse proportion to distance.

Couriering a single full 512GB microSD card, assuming 24 hour delivery, would be about 5.8MB/s, or 46Mb/s, comparable with what you might get on a better-than-average NBN FTTN connection.

Micro: ~250 mg
... would be about 5.8MB/s, or 46Mb/s
So a 15Kg box could hold ~60000 of the little cards.

46Mb/s x 60,000 = 2.6Tb/s

And a pallet of 7x7x8 boxes could give ~1Pb/s
