U4 USB WiFi not connecting
U4 USB WiFi not connecting
Hi,
I have a U4 installed in Dec 2018 which worked fine until I downloaded new firmware online this week. It refused to reboot, just stuck on ‘Loading’ so was advised to download again via USB and not to restore from backup. This worked fine but now I cannot connect via WiFi only Ethernet. I am using the Beyonwiz USB.
Should I reinstall upgrade again? Any suggestions?

What did you try to do to get wireless networking running again?

Re: U4 USB WiFi not connecting
Just about everything! I used the wizard, I tried manually and when nothing worked I called in my friendly IT guy who tested all the networks etc and concluded that the problem was with the Beyonwiz not my network setup. He set up the Ethernet access which works fine.

Re: U4 USB WiFi not connecting
Can you be a little more specific about exactly what you did?
It's also possible to set up WiFi after you do the initial setup wizard. Plug in the WiFi dongle (if it's not already plugged in). Go to the setup screen MENU>Setup>Network>Network adapter selection. You should see two entries LAN connection (hard-wired Ethernet) and WLAN connection (WiFi).
Select LAN connection then Network Settings/info and switch off Enable Ethernet interface, then GREEN Save. This will make sure that you are only using WiFi when you test the connection later. Then EXIT back to the list of adapters and select WLAN connection, then Network Settings/info.
Enable the interface and a list of what you need to configure will appear. Are you familiar with what you should select there?

Re: U4 USB WiFi not connecting
Sorry, should have been more specific.
Under Setup:
Network settings comes up with the correct network settings, password etc, but when it is activated the Links blinks green then goes off and SSID says No connection
WLAN status says no connection
Network test says wireless disconnected, IP address unconfirmed, nameserver unconfirmed
Network wizard tests network and says my internet connection is not working

Re: U4 USB WiFi not connecting
Sorry our posts crossed.
I followed you instructions and filled out the form as
Enable 8812au wireless ... yes
DHCP on
Hidden network Off
Network name is correct
Encryption WPA or WPA2
Encryption key filled in
How do I know if it recognizes the Beyonwiz USB?

Re: U4 USB WiFi not connecting
Just checked again and there is no U4 listed in the networks!

Re: U4 USB WiFi not connecting
Just checked where? We're not able to see what you've done.
If you were looking at the router's status pages, then that's expected if the U4 can't connect to the network at all.

Re: U4 USB WiFi not connecting
By the fact that a WLAN connection entry exists in the Network adapter setup screen. That screen should also list the driver for the WiFi dongle just under the "WLAN connection" text. My Beyonw-z supplied WiFi USB is listed there as "rt2800usb wireless network interface".

Re: U4 USB WiFi not connecting
"Enable 8812au wireless ... yes"
I believe that means the U4 has detected the USB adapter.
"Network name is correct"
This would imply that it has scanned the available SSIDs and found yours.
Unless that's from your old setup.
"Encryption WPA or WPA2"
Try the other options.
Re: U4 USB WiFi not connecting
I checked the Scan wireless networks page for the Wiz USB
Under WLAN connection it has 8812au wireless network interface
I tried WEP, WPA2, Unencrypted and none worked.

PRi and Grumpy_Geoff,
Many thanks for all your help and patience with a non techy. I went through everything again (several times) following your instructions and although I have no idea what was different this time, I believe I am now on WiFi.
