Help! U4 stuck in booting mode
Help! U4 stuck in booting mode
Hi
I have put this under networking because I was trying to "mount" my windows 10 pc onto the u4. I tried to follow these instructions.
viewtopic.php?f=16&t=8989&sid=d939d3abe ... 5163d76a85
However, I am trying to reboot the machine and it is now stuck on the blue logo and will not proceed to fully loading. I tried disconnecting the ethernet cable in case that helped but to no avail. Please Help!

Re: Help! U4 stuck in booting mode
What text does the front display of the U4 show when it hangs? Is it "BOLT V1.31.1", "Booting..." or "Loading..."?
If it's "Booting..." or "Loading...", you could try reinstalling the firmware from USB. If you've saved your settings since setting up the network file sharing, restore the settings when the firmware installation completes, otherwise don't restore the settings (yet). It's possible to restore settings from earlier settings backups if that's needed (and I can step you through it if it is).
The hang might only be coincidentally associated with you setting up network file sharing.

Re: Help! U4 stuck in booting mode
That's what I'd expect from what's on the TV screen. It means that the boot loader started, but loading the operating system and applications didn't start.
It's probably worth trying to reload the firmware. If it detects the firmware USB stick, then there's a reasonable chance of it fixing the problem. If it doesn't find the firmware update, it looks like the boot loader has been corrupted or there's some other fatal hardware error.

Thanks. I am downloading the firmware and will try to reinstall it. Will report back when completed.

Re: Help! U4 stuck in booting mode
Initially I tried two USBs and front and back USB ports without success. However, there was not indication on the tv but I noticed the front panel on the U4 saying press button then there were other messages about the Kernel and SystemFiles etc. Nothing appeared on the TV until the message came up to restore from backup which I did. I had to reset the ICETV settings and remount my router mounted external drive and all seems good now. Beyond that I think I will leave well alone.
Thanks for all your help

Re: Help! U4 stuck in booting mode
Since you are using IceTV, you may also want to jump on the Ice website and resent all the timers for the U4.
Depending on when your last settings backup occurred, IceTV might think it has already sent your upcoming timers and will not automatically re-send them.

The instructions you have quoted are quite old. No idea why you had to reinstall the firmware but it is more likely a glitch that any fault in the software. If you want to do as we have, give it another try. There is a setting change you need to know about for Win10 though.
It turns out there is an issue with Win10 whereby MS disabled smb version 1.0 around Win10 ver 1803. A fix was found by MrQuade as noted in this post and following.
If you use the network browser to find the available shares and select the Win10 folder you want, it should prepopulate the mount manager entry. You then need to edit the mount options field as shown by MrQuade's post. The vers=3.0 addition seems critical for a Win10 mount. I always add a user account and password to Windows shares to prevent issues with Windows refusing to connect without them.
We also strongly recommend setting your router to allocate fixed IP addresses to your U4 and PC MAC addresses to make discovery more reliable.
