Yes: I got the update on my test V2, but I didn't check that it was also available on the other models before I posted.

No problem. Thanks for all you do around here!

No problem. It appears that some people are having difficulties with the 20190913 V2 update.

As I have now posted, I was having difficulties on a U4 so not sure about it only being for the V2?

To fix this problem you need to install the "xz" utilities package onto your Beyonwiz box. To do this please access the shell prompt and enter the following command: opkg install xz

Thanks, that has fixed it. Do you know if xz will be included in future BW firmware? I just know I will forget to install this each time I flash... :?

Alternatively, could xz be added to the dependencies in IanSav's picons package?

I never considered that as an option. I was hoping that Beyonwiz would have started catching up to all the other images by now. Perhaps xz should be added to the base Beyonwiz image?

While I can add the dependency I wonder if doing so might have other, potentially negative, implications. Do you have any thoughts about potential risks?

Ian.

In systems that have xz pre-installed, it should be installed already, though the dependency might pull in a newer version than the pre-installed one.

On systems where it isn't pre-installed, it shouldn't have any different effect from manually installing it before doing the picon update.

I thought it was a given that if a package has dependencies, they need to be specified. The only real trick comes from defining and bounding the required versions.

This is not a specific dependency of the picon package. It reflects a deficiency of the older Beyonwiz firmware environment.

Thanks! I've added the changes to the picon repository. They should be in the next beta release.

The scan data I had for Hobart was quite old (2016), and the part of the scripts that create the picon setup that tries tobring old data up to date wasn't producing the all the links correctly for Hobart (and I have no way of testing).

The update should now give you correct picons on 7, 7HD, 9HD, 9Life, GOLD, SBN, Sky News on WIN, TVSN, WIN BOLD, WIN HD & WIN PEACH.

Not sure if this helps but attached is the getservices for the northern Gold Coast.

I think it will help, especially for you. For example, you have 9Gem HD on 1012:441:475 (ONID:TSID:SID) -

Code: Select all

<e2servicereference>1:0:19:475:441:1012:EEEE0000:0:0:0:</e2servicereference>
<e2servicename>9Gem HD Gold Coast</e2servicename>
This isn't in the current picons package, at least I couldn't find any 1012:441 (ONID:TSID Nine Network) services.

Yes, some of the code that tries to fill in data that I don't have (usually because the scan files I have are older than many of the changes to channel lineup) don't work in all cases where they should.

Draadnor's data adds picon setup for a bunch of services with ONID 1012, TSID 411 (Nine Gold Coast channels):
Channel 9 Gold Coast
9Gem Gold Coast
9Gem HD Gold Coast
9Go! Gold Coast
9HD Gold Coast
9Life Gold Coast

Thanks! :)

From my quick check, the firmware appears to have all of the ABC and SBS services for your broadcast market.
It appears to be missing these services though -
Nine - Aspire, 9Life, 9HD Bendigo (but has this picon via fallback to service type 1 though), SBN
PRIME7 - 7flix, PRIME7 HD Bendigo
WIN - GOLD, Sky News on WIN, WIN HD Bendigo (but has via fallback to service type 1 though)
Is this correct?

The most recent proper scan data I have for Bendigo dates from July 2016. In July 2019, I hand-modified the scan data to add Nine Bendigo, 9HD Bendigo & 9Life, and do some renaming so that picons for some of the other channels affected by the switchover of the broadcast arrangements for the regionals.

In the switchover, SCA carried Nine regional affiliates instead of Ten regional affiliates, and WIN carried Ten regional affiliates instead of Nine regional affiliates.

The modifications were by hand and may have errors, but if you are running firmware more recent than 20190712 you should have those changes.

I'll incorporate the new Bendigo scan data (thanks, driva) in the picon setups. That should fix any remaining problems.

However, the new picon setup that I prepared in January to cover the change from 7food network to 7mate HD has not yet been released. Any other changes I make will also need to wait for the next firmware release.

I didn't check them thoroughly enough, some of the NINE and WIN services are there as service type 0x01 whereas the scan has them as 0x16 or 0x19.

The new picon setup for Bendigo, based on the scan data that driva posted, has been added to the picon repository. The new picon setup should be available in the next firmware update, or if you're impatient, there are ways of bootlegging it.

I don't have a good tool for comparing differences between the setups, but using diff between the old and new picondefs files, it looks like some of the Ten services (carried on WIN) may have been fixed by the update, and it has certainly fixed the picons for SBN, Sky News on WIN, Prime7 HD and 7flix in Bendigo.

Those differences are beyond just having the wrong service type in the picon setup, which should not, just by itself, cause any missing picons.

Thanks guys, if I go though all LCN Channels SBN, 7flix and Sky News on WIN are the only ones without any picons, which sound like they'll be incorporated now. Again, many thanks, I'll have a go at bootlegging it in the meantime,.

I noticed on my U4 that I lost the picons for most of the NINE services.
Even stranger was that when I zapped to Nine HD (from 7TWO) the picon from 7TWO was still displayed in the infobar.
A GUI restart fixed it.
Weird huh?

I jumped the gun, they aren't back. 9Gem HD Perth is the only one that displays. A reboot doesn't fix it.

That's strange. I assume that you're looking at the picon files as of the 14 Feb commit (b8d296c).

My (freshly-updated) clone of my branch of the picon repository doesn't have any zero-length Nine picon files (whew!):

Code: Select all

prl@Xerxes picons-australia % ls -l picon/channel_picons/*9*
-rw-r--r-- 1 prl staff 5783 Nov 29 2015 picon/channel_picons/9gem_lw.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 prl staff 10074 Jun 27 2019 picon/channel_picons/9gemhd_mp.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 prl staff 6845 Nov 29 2015 picon/channel_picons/9go_lw.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 prl staff 5293 Nov 29 2015 picon/channel_picons/9hd_wp.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 prl staff 6400 Nov 29 2015 picon/channel_picons/9life_wp.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 prl staff 8600 Nov 29 2015 picon/channel_picons/channel9_wp.png
prl@Xerxes picons-australia %

None of them show as zero length in the Bitbucket Web interface to either the main repository nor my clone.

How did they make their way to your U4?

No, they're still the picons as from the 7food to 7mate HD update. I don't think Ian has had the Bendigo stuff built yet.
I'm assuming I must have done "something" at 14:09 on Feb 14 to nuke them, but what and why all but one of the Nine Network service images.

Were any other channel_picon files changed at the same time?

As far as anything systematic about the files goes, all I can think of is that the survivor doesn't have a 'w' in the file name. That doesn't seem very helpful, though.

It was just the Nine Network images (except for 9Gem HD).
But I know what I did now!
It was when I was phaffing around looking to see which of the Nine Bendigo (TSID 803/ONID 320C) picons were present in the current update. I accidentally pasted the previous command's directory output as commands and it stomped over the Nine Network images (subset below) -

Code: Select all

root@beyonwizu4:/picon# lrwxrwxrwx    1 root     root            30 Jan 13 13:06 1_0_1_803_803_320C_EEEE0000_0_0_0.png -> channel_picons/channel9_wp.png
-bash: lrwxrwxrwx: command not found
i.e. > channel_picons/channel9_wp.png

Bendigo doesn't have 9Gem HD so it didn't get clobbered.

Glad it's sorted, and that I didn't clobber bits of the repository.

Well, found at least. I'll just copy those image files from the T2, that should fix it right, unless the symlink gets disturbed by that?

No, it should be fine. That's an advantage of using aymlinks. Patching ot up if hard links had been used would be a bit more complicated.

Bendigo picons all successfully updated through Ian's feed server.
Thanks so much to all for your help, apologies to GG for stuffing up his U4 temporarily

Nah, don't worry as that was all down to me and it didn't take long to fix once I realised my mistake.

Jasmeet's changes to the picons for ABC Comedy/Kids, Kids Listen & RN have been merged into the picon repository, and should be available in the next firmware update, or, if you're using IanSav's picon feed, when Ian updates his feed.

This update changes the picon image files, but not any of the picon setup, so it won't change whether you see picons for those channels.

I updated via the "direct fetch of the picons package from IanSav's feed server" manual method.
Thanks.
