Here's Hastings Point: Hastings_Point.tgz
Thanks. I'll have to see how that goes. It seems to be a scan of Lismore, but the data I already have is for an old combined scan of Lismore & Gold Coast. It'll be interesting to see whether they play nice together.

If you're heading up the Gold Coast way, a new scan of just the Gold Coast would be nice to have :) I don't really like combined scans, but I go with what I can get.

I still have a couple of scan data files to ingest from dRdoS7 :(

I don't want to overwork you.

Besides which, we like the Gold Coast as much as you like combined scans.

We're going to Brissie, but I'll try turning the antenna before we leave here, see if it picks up GC tower.

Thanks, Jasmeet, but I wanted to check that the 44 Adelaide picon actually worked. I had no reason to think that its serviceref (ONID, TSID, SID, etc) had changed.

I have incorporated all of the recent scan data updates for regionals that have been posted recently:
  • Wollongong updated (from posted Ulladulla data). Only changes to the picondefs file, no changes to the picon setup.
  • Tamworth updated (from posted Tenterfield data).
  • Separate Northern Rivers NSW (from posted Hastings Pt data) & Gold Coast scan data replaces an old combined scan of Northern Rivers NSW & Gold Coast.
  • Replace Wagga Wagga scan data with combined new Wagga Wagga & Albury (from posted The Rock scan data). Only commercial channels in Albury data.
  • Taree updated (from posted Taree-Port Macquarie/Middle-Brother NSW data). Only changes to the picondefs file, no changes to the picon setup.
Follow the links to the commit comments for more information about the changes.

The updates should be ready to distribute from the main repository.

Thanks to sub3r for the Taree data and dRdoS7 for the remaining data.

Hi Peter

FYI. Brisbane isn’t showing the HD watermark for GEM although the name and resolution certainly indicate it’s 1080p HD. I think I read that was happening elsewhere and you decided against using the HD picon. Anyway just letting you know the lay of the land.

It was reported for 9Gem Mt Gambier.

As you can see from the screenshot in the linked post, 9Gem Mt Gambier is showing the standard 9Gem logo, not one for 9Gem HD. Since that's the broadcaster's branding, IMO using the 9Gem picon is correct for Mt Gambier, no matter what the broadcast resolution is.

What broadcaster branding does 9Gem Brisbane have?

The picon setup is driven by the broadcast name of the channel, and I generally only over-ride it if I can avoid requesting new scan data for trivial branding changes (e.g. when One changed to Boss and then to Bold).

The whole 9Gem/9Gem HD thing's a bit of a mess, really. 9Gem Canberra, for example, is MPEG2 SD, and SCA Canberra doesn't (yet?) carry 9Gem HD.

I'm not sure quite what I'm seeing there. Are all those screenshots for 9Gem HD Brisbane? If so, then Nine is doing the opposite of what was reported for 9Gem Mt Gambier: it's naming the channel 9Gem HD, but using 9Gem watermarking.

As I said, Nine's branding of 9Gem/9Gem HD is a mess. So far, I think I'm doing the right thing, but I'm not really sure what "the right thing" is.

BYW: can you read the resolution in the infobar in the first screenshot? I certainly can't!

However, the service info screen has a serviceref that should be for MPEG4 HD (but broadcasters have been known to get that wrong, too).

Here's the 'Current' OWIF info for 9Gem HD Perth, as you'll see all details point to an HD broadcast -

Code: Select all

Service
Name: 9Gem HD Perth	Provider: Nine Network Australia	Namespace: 4008574976 (eeee0000)
Video Width: 1920	Video Height: 1080	Video Wide: True
Encrypted: 0	Dolby: True	Subservices: False
Teletext: 570	Recording Status: False	Pmtpid: 262 (0106)
Apid: 655 (028f)	Vpid: 517 (0205)	Pcrpid: 133 (0085)
Tsid: 1120 (0460)	Onid: 4114 (1012)	Sid: 1125 (0465)
Sref: 1_0_19_465_460_1012_EEEE0000_0_0_0	1:0:19:465:460:1012:EEEE0000:0:0:0:	DVB-T
... yet the Nine numpties are using a non-HD watermark.
Perhaps they've not bothered with a new watermark since the service is set to disappear once the cricket finishes (so we understand).
Initially, the numpties got the service type wrong too (0x1 c.f. 0x19).

Why does that not surprise me? Mind you, IIRC, SBS did the same thing once for one of its then-new MPEG4 HD channels.

Anyway, I still can't see any reason to change from assigning the 9Gem picon to channels that declare themselves to be 9Gem (broadcast area) and the 9gemhd picon to those that declare themselves to be 9Gem HD (broadcast area). There may be some inconsistency in areas that I don't have recent scan data for (hint, hint), but I doubt that my inconsistencies are greater than Nine's.

If you don't have picons for your area, and would like them, follow the "hint, hint" link above :)

I can't find anything much that says anything definite about the life expectancy of 9Gem HD. The short item on TVTonight perhaps implies that it's just for the Ashes (but Nine has a press release about the Women's Ashes on 9Gem HD, so not just the men's Ashes). The Wikipedia entry for 9Gem says that it was introduced for coverage of the Ashes, but doesn't seem to imply "and only for the Ashes".

I found a couple of other articles about 9Gem HD, but they were no more enlightening.

Most strangely (and perhaps tellingly about its future), I can't see a launch press release for 9Gem HD in Nine's press releases. They just start off announcing that the Women's Ashes will be on 9Gem HD. There may be earlier program-specific releases that name 9Gem HD, but the press release for Cricket World Cup doesn't mention 9Gem HD.

In all this digging around I found, at the bottom of Nine's home page, a link to "Pedestrian TV". So descriptive of so much on offer from our broadcasters:
pedestrian
adjective

Lacking inspiration or excitement; dull.

Hi PRL, Do you know if 9GEM HD is coming to the regionals. The new picon for 9GEM HD has come through on Channel 85 for me however the scan is still Your Money, with no content, and Channel 82 is 9GEM. I tried to contact Nine last week but have not received a reply.

Sorry no idea, and there seems to be very little real information about exactly where 9Gem HD is available. I thought that YourMoney was going to be shut down completely.

Canberra doesn't have 9Gem 9HD, but it didn't have YourMoney, either.

Here's Gold Coast: Gold Coast.tgz

Got it. Thanks. Looks good.

Do you create the .tgz files using a script? If so, could you make the directory name the same as the tar file base name?

I used Grumpy's script, and as I was using a remote, I used "gc" as the location. After transferring the gc.tgz to my tablet, renamed it to "Gold Coast.tgz". I'll copy the folder and file, then rename, and then zip it on the tablet instead, dispensing with the .tgz creation in future.

According to mediaspy:
"A spokesperson for NINE has told me “the current plan” is for 9GEMHD to operate until the end of The Ashes. Of course this could potentially change depending on audience response.
https://forums.mediaspy.org/t/nine-ente ... co/528/427
However reliable that post is though is another matter.

Oh, same dude posting here -
"UPDATE: A spokesperson for NINE has advised TV Blackbox the current plan is for 9GEMHD to be available until the end of of The Ashes."
https://tvblackbox.com.au/page/2019/6/2 ... -the-ashes

I did remember reading it in a couple of places it was only until the cricket finished.

For those not on the beta feed and not using IanSav's feed server plugin, if you want the updated picons, see steps below.

Use a browser to download the picon package from IanSav's feed server using the below link:
https://iansav.bitbucket.io/feeds/Beyon ... r1_all.ipk

To install the picon package on the Wiz, use one of these methods -
  • Save the package to a USB, sneaker-net the USB to the Wiz and plug it in, choose 'Install extensions.' when prompted, highlight the picon package and press OK to select it for install, then GREEN/Install.
  • Transfer the package to the Wiz using FTP, Windows File Explorer, et. al., then use File Commander (or opkg command) to install the package.
  • wget the package directly, then use opkg to install
Best to reboot or at least restart the GUI.
I used the package to update our T2 as it is still on the 17.5-series f/w.

Is this because you are uploading picons to the feed regularly...not that it's an issue.
Just curious.

Is this because you are uploading picons to the feed regularly...not that it's an issue.
Just curious.
If you have switched to the 19.3 series firmware beta feed, then you will get regular updates as new features and fixes are applied. It's definitely not unusual to be getting daily (or more frequent) updates when on the beta feed early on in the beta cycle.

If you have registered on any other feeds then you will receive updates from those whenever the maintainer pushes out updates. I'm not on IanSav's picon feed, so not sure what may be coming through on that,

I don't think there's been any since Tuesday morning's 20190708 update though.

There have been two online updates since 2090630 from the official feeds that have contained picon updates. I'm not sure how many there have been from IanSav's feed. That may be three picon updates.

The first update in the official feeds had new san data from most of the metro areas and constructed 9Gem HD and World Movies data for the rest, and the second one updated some regional areas with new scan data.

Because rhe process to update the regionals took a couple of days, IanSav's feed may have sone two updates for that.

Looks like VICELAND is still called "SBS VICELAND HD", but the watermark is just "VICELAND" (no HD). Maybe the picon should remove HD, too?

IanSav's feed for the picon package is still the same as when I posted the direct URL for it on Mon 8-Jul 22:05 (AWT).
That package also matches the one in the 20190708 firmware (i.e. your "regional" update).

I don't know how the packages in the alternate feed are generated, but I would not be surprised if they caused issues due to versioning inconsistencies. The filename pattern I noticed in one of the posted URLs does not match the patterns used by the Beyonwiz feeds. The packaging system is only self-consistent when all the installed packages come from a completed build run. To maintain installation consistency, every package needs to originate from a single self-consistent feed. If you have multiple feeds supplying the same package (and with different versioning scheme), you can expect subtle and unsubtle problems.

Does this present something of a quandary for those of us wanting to be on the 19.3 Beta feed but also wanting to be on the IanSav feed for (other) updates such as OverlayHD? I've (in blissful ignorance) had them both enabled since way back somewhere in the beta 17.5 days and haven't noticed any issues, but that doesn't mean there weren't any or won't be any I guess. Any advice from the gurus?

Might be worth holding off as even SBS uses both names.

Regardless it is a HD service so no real issue leaving it.

I still have the VICELAND picon image file, so it's simple to change the picons from VICELAND HD to VICELAND.

Perhaps if we wait a little while to see whether that's a permanent decision from SBS.

Logopedia is still flagging the VICELAND HD picon as "2019-present", and Jasmeet_181 hasn't changed his image file for VICEMAND HD, either.

SBS's EPG, though, is showing the stacked version of the VICELAND picon for SBS VICELAND, and I just saw a VICELAND station promo that just used the VICELAND logo.

But if SBS sticks with that branding, I'm happy to make the change.

Hi,

In my opinion there should be little problem or implication of using my feed. It is not updated frequently. There has been only one recent picon update offering. The picons are extracted directly from Prl's updates from the Beyonwiz repository but they are built by OpenViX.

I am more than happy to stop serving the picon updates. I only serve them as a service to Beyonwiz users who don't want to run beta firmware but want the latest picons. (I would have thought that Beyonwiz should have arranged more timely picon updates for Beyonwiz users by now.)

The Australian picons and OverlayHD updates are available on the OE-Alliance feeds but that will not help Beyonwiz users at this time. If PeterU would like me to stop serving picons then he could ask. The scare tactics are, in my opinion, unnecessary.

Regards,
Ian.

As far as I can tell, the same versioning scheme is used in both the IanSav feed server picon package and in the 20190708 firmware update - with the exception of the "release" (r1 c.f. r1.0).

T2 on old firmware, with the picons updated using the file directly downloaded from IanSav's feed server -

Code: Select all

root@beyonwizt2:~# grep build /etc/image-version
build=20180417
root@beyonwizt2:~# opkg list-installed *picons*
enigma2-plugin-picons-tv-australia - 3.0+git290+20a9a71-r1
root@beyonwizt2:~#
U4 as updated by 20190708 -

Code: Select all

root@beyonwizu4:~# grep -e '^build=' /etc/image-version
build=20190708
root@beyonwizu4:~# opkg list-installed *picons*
enigma2-plugin-picons-tv-australia - 3.0+git290+20a9a71-r1.0
root@beyonwizu4:~#
This is not an immediate concern for me, as eventually the T2 will be USB-flashed with the 19.3-series firmware.

Hi Ian

If you discontinue your service I will reevaluate my commitment to Beyonwiz as PVR. I am not running beta software for picons which I agree Beyonwiz should manage in a timely manner if they can’t be obtained from free to air and Ice Tv.

It looks like SBS is sticking to leaving the "HD" off their VICELAND HD logo.

Shall I change the picon to remove the "HD", too?

Hi Prl,

I think the picon indicating that the service is a HD service is informative albeit not accurate. I would suggest you keep the HD version of the picon in place.

Ian.

My ten cents ... I think the picon should reflect the actual channel name/logo that is used by the "owner" so I'd be for dropping the "HD" if SBS has done that, but always grateful for all the work you all do and that the picons get updated at all, so happy to go with whatever the consensus is! :D

Personally, I think the HD is unnecessary but it isn't something I care much about. Appreciate your efforts either way! :D
