Video passthrough settings

Post by DoogaT4 » Thu May 28, 2020 19:42

Hi,
I have a T4.
I also have a new Sony 4k x9500g TV. It is meant have have the best upscaling at the moment. Using HDMI through Sony AVR. AVR is passing through video.
What is the best settings on the T4 to have the signal go through to the TV without much change from the T4 so the TV can enhance video quality.
Do I just leave it as automatic resolution?
What is Color space? Do I change it.
Not the most tech savy so sorry if this is obvious.
Cheers

That is the best option if you want the T4 to always send video at the same framerate as the source file.

You should set all of the resolution options available under the Automatic resolution line to be 1080p reoslution.
You should set the framerates such that:
Any source framerate of 25 or 50, set the T4 to output 1080p50.
Any source framerate of 24, set the T4 to output 1080p24.
Any rouce framerate of 30 or 60, set the T4 to output 1080p (1080p mode implies 1080p60).

That tells the TV what range of colours to use and will affect the saturation of the colours shown on screen. You generally don't need to worry about that setting.

Thank you very much.
Would be nice if a future update did provide raw passthrough or would this make no difference. Just that I assume Tv's or AVRs are only getting better at enhancing video.

That's a somewhat complicated problem to tackle.

You could of course set each of the output resolutions to the corresponding source resolution, but the T4 will still need to perform some degree of picture processing on anything that it outputs.

The video processor on the T4 is pretty good, and if you give it more pixels to play with, it will do a good job of processing the video itself. Ideally you'd want to be playing 1080p source content for the best result anyway.

Worry more about the colour and brightness settings on your TV for the best results :)
