Couldn't you have just pressed MUTE to restore the volume?

Well there ya go. I just tried it running your AutoMute plugin & yes it does work.

All the time I’ve been running auto-mute I haven’t touched the MUTE button.

Here's a plugin version. Uninstall the patch, restart, then install the plugin - it will take effect immediately.
I’ve been using the AutoMute 1.1 plugin successfully on our two U4s & T2.

The following is feedback just in case there is an issue with AutoMute that could randomly occur when being installed as below.

Yesterday after doing a USB update with restore settings from 19.3 20190810 to 19.3 20190818 on one of our U4s (U4_01), I installed OverlayHD plugin manually, enabled it & did a GUI restart, then ran enigma2-plugin-extension-AutoMute_1.1_all.ipk which displayed the following error message:

Code: Select all

Execution progress:
* opkg_lock: Could not lock/run/opkg.lock: Resource temporarily unavailable
Execution finished!
(The above error message was initially hand written so I’m not sure if opkg_lock should be opkg.lock or vice versa).

After doing a GUI restart, I found that AutoMute wasn’t working when accessing various menus, ‘AutoMute (1.1)’ wasn’t listed under ‘Menu > Setup > Plugins > Remove plugins > Extensions’, & ‘AutoMute Setup’ wasn’t available.

When I ran enigma2-plugin-extension-AutoMute_1.1_all.ipk a second time, AutoMute installed correctly without any error message & worked as it should.

Unfortunately I had previously disabled logging.

Today I used the same sequence to update the second U4 (U4_02) & AutoMute installed correctly without any error message & worked as it should.

In all the above, Overlay HD & AutoMute were installed from the same USB flash drive containing the f/w update. The USB drive was connected to the front USB 2.0 port & was still mounted after doing the f/w update.

Update to unmute when playing from File Commander.

That version works quite well. I notice the Music Player now doesn’t have to be manually un-muted, which is a bonus. :)

A great plug-in made even better.

That version works quite well.
I didn't test it enough. Whenever certain settings in the setup menu are changed it causes a crash. For example in Live TV > MENU > IMDb setup if I change Show search in plug-in browser it crashes when GREEN (ok) is pressed.

I didn’t pick this up until I just updated T2_01 via USB with restore settings to 19.3 20210901 f/w. After installing enigma2-plugin-extensions-AutoMute_1.1.1, whenever I changed some settings in the setup menu the T2 crashed every time. Un-installed enigma2-plugin-extensions-AutoMute_1.1.1 & it was fine. Re-installed it & I got the same crashes. Installed the earlier version enigma2-plugin-extensions-AutoMute_1.1 & no more crashes.

Would it be advisable to do a USB update with restore settings just to be sure this hasn't impacted on anything else?

The attached crash logs for U4_01 will show where it crashes.

Replaced 1.1.1 with 1.1.2 to fix this.

Thanks, that’s working nicely now on both of our U4s. :)

Just an observation; I assume it’s intentional that some items accessed from the Extensions Menu Live TV > BLUE are muted & some aren’t. For example; Live TV > BLUE > AutoTimer is, but not Live TV > BLUE > Software management or Live TV > BLUE > OverlayHD Skin Manager. I think earlier versions were also like this.

It works by detecting specific skins; those two aren't on the list, so they're not muted. I'll have a play with a fancier config, allowing skins to be selected, sometime...

I mainly only access Software management from the Extensions Menu, so it’s pretty easy for me to just hit MUTE for that.
