Hi,

Do you need Bermagui?

We're here for a week, so I'll post it if wanted/needed.

Possibly, Narooma next, if they come out of lockdown. Maybe Eden, or Bombala, if they don't.

I'm running an old version of FW 19.3, so the icons are out of date (9 is 10 / 10 is 9). Not going to update to check!

You can use prl's "get_picons.sh" script to fetch them from the beta feed, then install the package -

Thanks. Got it.
Hi. Just moved from Cairns to Newborough (Gippsland) and when I did a channel scan on my V2 all I could find for my area was Melbourne. After scanning I now have like 3 of each channel. One from Melbourne, one from Traralgon, and one from Gippsland. How are areas like this handled. It appears all the picons are correctly associated with their appropriate networks.

I use IceTV for guide and recording data which is also good because I hate seeing all those Radio Station listings in guide date otherwise. LOL

I just need enough data to cover the various broadcast regions, and I have data for Melbourne and Gippsland. That apparently also covers the channels you're getting from Traralgon.

Whether the radio channels appear in a bouquet (and hence in the EPG screen) has nothing at all to do with whether you use the IceTV guide or the broadcast guide, though if you use the IceTV guide, there won't be any program entries in the EPG for any of the radio channels.

The data I use would be the same for all the NSW South Coast south of the Illawarra, so it's likely that any one of them would do. The problem getting the data from non-residents is that I then can't get updates the next time I need to update the data.

Getting hemmed in here. Narooma has some locations now. Lockdown seems to be leaking a bit (more).

I was looking in the wrong place for my NSW South Coast scan data - I already had a set, but it was last updated in 2018. I've put your new scan data into that data set. I'll make a new picon set today, but I don't know when it will make it into a release.

Thanks.

I've put the new picon setup for the NSW South Coast into the picon repository, and it should be available in the next firmware update. Thuis update is from dRdoS7's recently posted Bermagui scan data.

Update for Albany WA, note that this for the Mount Clarence transmitters not the Southern Agricultural.

Will these updates be included in the next beta and/or official firmware release?

I'll need to look at exactly what's in the scan data, but if it goes into the repository, it will probably be in the next beta, but not in the next official release, because the current beta is a release candidate.

I've merged the Albany updates to the picons repository.

The last update to the Albany picon setup was in July, and the only change in this newer data is that the Sky News On WIN picon will appear for that channel rather than the incorrect 9Life picon.

If you are running the most recent official release, 20191106, then you will have a rather old picon setup that I expect will have a lot more errors than just the Sky News/9Life one. If you update to the current release candidate beta 20211010, you'll fix all the errors in the Albany picon setup except for the Sky News/9Life one.

As I mentioned before, these latest changes to the Albury picon setup probably won't appear in the next official release: I don't think that peteru wants to make any changes to the current release candidate before it's re-released as official firmware. They'll probably be in the next beta, and in the official release after the impending one.

Hey Peter

When the release candidate is re-released as official firmware, can the upgrade be applied straight over the top of 19.3.20191106?

Kind Regards

I think that it will be possible, but that a USB upgrade will be recommended. Peteru is really the right person to answer that.

ETA: it's probably not a good idea to try to do an online upgrade from the current official release 2191106 to the new official release when the current release candidate "goes official". See Grumpy_Geoff's post below.

The topic for the 20200328 beta, which was the first beta released after the 20191106 production/general release you speak of, contained this advice -
"USB update is recommended as there have been a number of packages removed from the image as well as some package roll-backs due to upstream changes. The online update may not deal with this scenario too well, so if in doubt, perform full USB reflash."

It was my understanding that going forward, once on the new firmware releases, the picons could be pushed out asynchronously to the rest of the firmware at little risk of things "going wrong" since they are on their own feed now.

Not really anything difficult or super important.

Just make a note of any plugins or addons that you have installed, because you will need to re-install them.
If you have custom SMB shares, then you may need to recreate them depending on what version of firmware you are coming from.
You'll also need to remember to set your network password again, and enable/disable some extra bits like the built in DLNA or NFS services.

The RC is certainly looking the goods. There are no reports of bugs. The only glitch I have encountered with a timer was not reproducible and thus, we are confident it will become a production release before too long.

Could a few people who've already scanned SBS WorldWatch please post its serviceref and broadcast area in this topic? There's no need to post for a broadcast region if someone's already posted for it.

I think that I can synthesise the picon setup for WorldWatch and avoid having to ask for a full set of scan data, but I'd like to get a few real servicerefs to check.

Edited to add:
I'm expecting the SBS WorldWatch servicerefs to be in the form 1:0:1:3x8:3x0:3202:EEEE0000:0:0:0: where x has the same value in both places (yes, I was surprised that it is MPEG3, too).

Here is a test version of the picon setup that includes SBS WorldWatch. You'll need to re-scan (if you haven't already done so) to see the new SBS WorldWatch channel.

The install/uninstall instructions assume that you know how to copy files onto your T/U/V series PVR and how to connect to and use its command-line interface.

Making mistakes in doing the install or uninstall may affect the stability of the PVR. If you mess things up, re-install the firmware from USB.

You need to follow the uninstall steps below before doing any online firmware update!

Assuming you're doing this on a T4, copy both attached files to root (/) on the T4, then log in to the T4 and:

Code: Select all

cd /
mv picon picon.bak
mv piconlcd piconlcd.bak
tar xf maskPicons-2022-05-10.tgz
tar xf lcdPicons-2022-05-10.tgz
Then restart the T4 GUI.

If you use xvf instead of xf in the tar commands it will print out the file names as they extract. There will be a lot of them, about 500 for each command. I don't usually bother.

To go back to the original picons, log into the T4 and:

Code: Select all

cd /
rm -r picon maskPicons-2022-05-10.tgz
rm -r piconlcd lcdPicons-2022-05-10.tgz
mv picon.bak picon
mv piconlcd.bak piconlcd
Then restart the T4 GUI.

If you're testing on something other than a T4, leave out all the commands with lcd in them, and don't bother downloading lcdPicons-2020-04-01.tgz and copying it to the box. It doesn't matter if you do change them, but they won't have any effect - they're the picon setup for the T4's OLED graphical front panel.

Please let me know if there are any problems. If nothing's been reported in a few days, I'll push the changes to the picon repository.

Thanks in advance to everyone who tries it out!

Fine on a T4 - infobar, channel list, LCD, OWIF.

V2 and U4 similarly fine too - not that that'd be a surprise to you (or anyone else). :)

Thanks again.

I only actually test picon setups on a T4, because that tests both the screen and front panel picons. I don't think I've ever had a cross-platform issue with picon setups that I've made.

What I can't do is test the setups on a channel mix other than Canberra's.

Here is a test version of the picon setup that includes SBS WorldWatch.

Worked fine on our V2 (Launceston). Thank you for your work, Peter.

Thanks, Samuel.

If I haven't heard of any problems by Saturday, I'll commit the changes to the picon source repository then.

Peter, I've just noticed 10BOLD description is <n/a>. I don't watch that station but I can't say I've noticed that before. Is this something you've noticed of late or do I have an issue and how do I provide you more info to determine root cause?

I got this the other day when I tried to scan for the new SBS channel.

Worked fine a second time. Not sure what tripped it up the first go.

No I'm not. But funny you mention that. I rebooted last night and it said I was recording when I wasn't so I proceeded with reboot.

I'll try rebooting again (3rd time) tonight. If EPG for 10BOLD still shows <n/a> what's the advice?

You've probably got an old service reference for 10 BOLD in your Favourites bouquet.
At some point, I think TEN changed the service type from SD to HD, thus the name doesn't match the scan table if you've recently rescanned (but prl's picons match to both SD and HD).
Scan again, then FAV, select 10BOLD, GREEN/Add to Favourites, then swap bouquets to Favourites and move 10BOLD to your chosen position.

Have you retried the services scan?
