No multi-channel audio on transferred file
No multi-channel audio on transferred file
Hi
When I record and play back shows with multi-channel audio from HD stations such as GEM they play with multi-channel sound. However when I use Yardwiz to copy them to my PC the resulting ts file has only 2 channel audio. Can someone please explain why this is.
My setup is a Beyonwiz DP-P1 (with 350 firmware) connected to a Denon AVR-1311 via HDMI which is in turn connected to a Panasonic 50" Plasma TV via HDMI.
The Beyonwiz has the following audio settings
Audio format : Passthrough
Analog Output : Enable
AAC Output : Passthrough
Dolby D Output : Passthrough
AC3 Audio Delay : Disable
The audio section of the Mediainfo for the resulting ts file is below

What device are you playing the transferred TS file from and the audio settings?
The transfer process does nothing to the content of the transmitted and recorded file on the BW.
The only way to remove elements from the transmission stream mpeg file is to transfer it sic to a computer and then demux it in a program like ProjectX etc.
It is probably the setting in the Denon and or the playback device you are using for the transferred TS file.

Hi Bonson,
The MediaInfo extract you provided indicates that the media file is encoded in the AC3 format but only contains two active audio channels. It appears that you were expecting more than two channels but in that sample there are only two channels defined/available.
Just because AC3 or Dolby Digital audio is used on a broadcast channel does *NOT* mean that all the possible audio channels will be used. That is, AC3 or Dolby Digital does not mean there will always be 5.1 channels of sound.
Regards,
Ian.

....don't forget that most AV receivers have a setting to "create" multi-channel sound from 2 channels... playing back on other devices that only play the two channels would make it seem like something had gone missing...?

Brian
