Openwiz down

Post by prl » Tue Sep 13, 2011 14:50

openwiz.org will be taken down for a few hours today (Tues 13 Sep) for a security scan because of compromises on on some other servers maintained by the same organisation (osuosl.org).

Hi Peter,

I still have my backups of the firmware releases page if that is needed.

Regards,
Ian.

Thanks, Ian. It shouldn't be necessary, but openwiz.org still appears to be down, even though the mail I got at about 10:30 this morning said it should only be down for "a few hours".

OpenWiz is still not responding as of 10:20 Wed 14 Sep. I've emailed one of the sysadmins requesting a status update.

Hi, Ian. All the pages I've looked at appear intact. There's no reason to think that there would be any problems; the OpenWiz servers weren't thought to have been compromised. The security scan was precautionary.

Hi Peter,

Cool.

Now all we need is the Beyonwiz engineers to give us something to work with so we can update the OpenWiz site. ;)

Regards,
Ian.

The HTTP server at www.openwiz.org seems to be down. I'm getting Connection timed out errors when I try to go to it from Firefox and Safari (the error message from Safari is longwinded and ambiguous, but I'm pretty sure it's the same error).

Anyone else seeing the same problem?

I get ‘Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage’ when I try using IE8.

It may not be related but I’ve been getting the same message from one other OS forum that was working fine yesterday.

Hi Peter,

I can trace the packets as far as corv-car1-gw.nero.net [207.98.64.177] and then I get 100% packet loss.

Regards,
Ian.

I just had a look, too. It seems to go into a routing loop there

Dennis, have you tried to do a packet trace to the other forum?

Unfortunately when I was getting the error message I didn’t Peter. This morning I can now get to http://www.candlepowerforums.com every time but it doesn’t redirect correctly every time.
I get a ‘Request timed out’ at one point which is repeatable. Two (or three) different problems I suspect.

Code: Select all

 9 171 ms 172 ms 172 ms i-0-4-0-0.paix-core01.bx.telstraglobal.net [202.84.140.37]

...
I get similar to what you posted for Openwiz.org.

http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ reports
It's not just you! http://www.openwiz.org looks down from here.
You can go straight to testing OpenWiz by going to http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/www.openwiz.org

That’s a handy site - thanks.

BTW ... I found the reason for the problems I've been experiencing with http://www.candlepowerforums.com .
Quote: “The domain is propagating through to a new IP. So some will still see the closed forums and others will get error messages. The files are still being uploaded to the new server. By this time tomorrow afternoon, all should be well on the new server”.
Definitely unrelated to the openwiz.org problems. :)

Openwiz is now back up, thanks to the efforts of the kind hosting folk:
I recently heard that openwiz.org has been down for you, I took a look and discovered that when it was migrated on Jan 28, the stuff to autostart the instance was not activated, so when its hosting machine got rebooted on 6/13 or so, it did not come up on its own.

I have corrected that issue and restarted it.
