Yardwiz, WizZilla and DP-P2

Post by flipch » Sun Oct 06, 2019 23:30

Hi,

I spend most of the afternoon trying to connect my old DP-P2 back onto my windows 10PC on my network. It hasn't been in reach of a cable for years, so I took it near my router and hooked it up there. It took me hours with Yardwiz trying to find it on the network, even though I followed all the old guides here and elsewhere to ensure my networks settings were ok and the network address etc. The latest I could find was 1.1. I kept getting the error, Unable to list programs on the WizPnp server. Device "dp-p2xxx (address:49152) isn't available. {dp-p2XXX) was found.

I had read that Yardwiz was the only one of the old utilities left that was functional. So only belatedly I downloaded WizZilla. I found version 1.1.0.60 with a recent date. It found my DP-P2 almost immediately. It took ages to list all the files, and only transferred/converted a few and had an error but at least it seems to work.

Hope this may help someone else who is trying to get files of an old DP machine. I am ordering a replacement V2 asap and looking forward to improved file transfers and compatibility among other steps forward.

Any other suggestions for transferring to my Windows 10PC?
Phil

A further update.

I successfully used WizZilla to connect to my DP-P2 using the network address, but it only allowed 8 or 9 videos in the queue, and failed on few, while others were ok when I edited back the very long titles which included synopsise for most, some too long or with illegal characters. Unfortunately a few would not even let me select them to download.

I tried Yardwiz again, this time I played around with the address, and eventually tried just the name I had given my DP-P2, as it said in the log that it had found it, but not the address. Voila! It found it.

Yardwiz loads the list of programmes on the DP-P2 much faster than WizZilla, and is more flexible with downloading to my PC, allowing a much longer queue, and did not fail with the ones WizZilla refused. The download is very slow with both, due, I understand, to the DP-P2, at under 3MB/S. But at least the job is being done. So, after all the pain and waste of time, Yardwiz is actually better, for my use at least. Just need to type in the exact name you have given to you Beyonwiz DP-P2 or similar.

On a related question, has anyone successfully FTP 'd to a DP series?

The DP series doesn't have an FTP server. That's why the WizPnP streaming protocol is (mis)used by the likes of WizZilla and YARDWiz.

Probably too late to be of any use but Yardwiz could get into a state where it didn't find one or more of my P2s, even though they were on.

My solution was to go to Tools>Options and hardcode in their addresses:

Code: Select all

192.168.1.112:49152 Family P2;192.168.1.111:49152 Lounge

Thanks Paul. Yes, tried that. Just won't find it via the address, but is fine now just on the name. Been working well enough since. Gives a lot of false notices of failures to save files, but 99% of the time they work. It has done what I needed.
