Replacing the S1 DVD

Post by Lex200 » Mon Mar 17, 2014 10:01

I've had an S1 since first release connected to my TV which has a single HDMI input. The S1's DVD is my only DVD player.

I'd love to replace the S1 with a T3 but, for me, this will mean buying a separate disc player. I could connect the DVD player to the TV via composite but the TV is very clunky in changing source as it cycles slowly through about 7 options.

Can I connect a DVD player through the T3 to the TV? Does the T3 have video and audio inputs and, if so, how well would this work?

Thanks for any info

The T3 can play ISOs / DVD folders over the network. It may be possible to stick your DVD into a drive on a networked computer and use the T3 to play from it. It may also be possible to hook up an external DVD drive via the eSATA or USB ports.

It looks like there are 2 SCART connectors on the back panel. Do either of those accept input?

I've just spent a bit of time playing with that this morning. I'm not sure how it's supposed to work, but there are some entries in /proc that would suggest that the AV Switch can accept input from encoder, SCART or AUX sources. Fiddling with the various settings didn't give me what I wanted, which was getting SCART input converted to T3 HDMI output. That's not to say it's not possible.

you could buy a BlueRay Player Approx $150 (eg: LG BP530 3D Blu-ray Disc Player with LG Smart and Wi-Fi) that will play CD DVD BD / Media play back through USB Ethernet WiFi
connect that to the HDMI on TV
connect the Beyonwiz T3 via the Component connections
best of both and a simple fix
next step get your self a New TV with 3 or more HDMI inputs

Or get a HDMI switch, that would be a far cheaper option than a new TV.

The T3 works happily with my $60 5-input HDMI switch.
