Is the T3 compatible with IceTV? IMO the Beyonwiz range benefits more from having IceTV than my other PVRs.
Beyonwiz + Ice = bulletproof!

I think it is compatible but it hasn't been tested as yet as the necessary software isn't built in.

If you can set timers etc on a PC or remotely then apart from the odd program descriptions IceTV it would really be redundant. Series recordings could be emulated on the PC surely?

IceTV is the only EPG that contains the repeat flag - discounting 'FreeView' where the cost of the data is prohibitive. Without the repeat flag, I can't see how series recording would work.

What we need is a definite YES. I would order one now if this was confirmed; ICETV or equivalent functionality for series and keywords is a must have for me.

Can't see why IceTV wouldn't want to expand their user base - sounds like a no brainer. But, I've seen plenty of blatantly stupid calls made by PVR vendors over the last few years.

I too will be interested in a P3 if ICE is supported and it retains the functionality of my much loved P2 - especially flexible add skipping.

It would be good if the file transfer speed of the P3 is faster than that of the P2.

Is the video file format the same as the P2?

Will it be capable of streaming the new IPTV content being mooted for Freeview+?

No. It's now in a single TS file with extra metadata in side files. That makes the file format more compatible with various applications that can process video files.

I don't know what Freeeview+ is cooking up, but given that they have historically just re-used technology from other markets, they will probably go with HbbTV, which the T3 already supports. Without any silly Freeview limitations.

As it's not a .tvwiz file does this mean that there is no longer any edit a recording, Cut, Delete, etc?

There is editing, but it doesn't reduce the file size (as it does on the DP models). It produces a "play this bit, then play that bit, then this next bit" list for an edited file. I think this is how Topfields do it (when I had a TF7000, it certainly was how it was done).

I've been told the more recent Toppies (e.g. my 2400) does result in a reduced file size. The problem with the edited Toppy files is that navigation commands are impacted. jdaskip still works, but not the native commands.
Given that the T3 seems to follow the Toppy method of a single large .mpg/.ts file and a couple of info/nav files per recording, it may suffer the same limitations on edited files. I guess we'll have to wait to find out.
Given the size of affordable HDDs nowadays, I don't bother editing Toppy files. However, I often top'n'tail Beyonwiz files because there is no downside.

I recall seeing a plugin that applied the edit list. I haven't installed it, so can't report on how well it works, but I assume it exists to save disk space. It will probably do it offline (in the background).

Simple for me...... No confirmed iceTV support, No pre-order.
I rely very heavily on iceTV so without support for it I will just have to stick my 2 old wizzies. Damn shame as I was really looking forward to the T3.

This was one of my annoyances with my short lived Toppy 7100. Not only did it not actually edit the file, it created a duplicate file with the marker points. So if you had a 10GB recording, editing out the first and last 25% resulted in another 10GB file that would start at 25% and stop at 75%. Yes two 10GB files, dumb.

5 years later with HDD space much cheaper, I wouldn't even bother editing.

While I understand that the T3 has some in-built functionality that can duplicate some aspects of IceTV, it’s unlikely that this would provide what I regard as the most important characteristic of all –ie: the ability to provide a ‘series record’ functionality that is able to distinguish between TV series that are new and those that are repeats.

It’s also been suggested on this forum that the ball is solely on IceTV’s court on this; and it is they who should provide an app to provide IceTV functionality on the new Beyonwiz T3.

On the other hand, Beyonwiz have already provided this capability on their previous models, and so are fully aware of what is required in terms of protocols etc –and these won’t have changed. So surely it would be a trivial task for them to implement what is required for the T3 model also.

I worked in the IT industry for 27 years and saw many projects where two parties both wanted something to be done but needless to say it never eventuated. Some of those are still being negotiated several years after I left and some were provided but with such a cut down solution that it made them useless. I am always sceptical now when someone says something like ".... isn't if, but when"

Sorry to say, I will only buy the T3 once iceTV is fully supported with at least the same functionality as what is available on my existing wizzies.

Ditto from me. I'll continue with my 2 x P2s and my S1. Even though one is DOA and needs repairs, one needs constant rebooting and one needs regular rebooting.

I'll add my vote here - IceTV is a critical piece of functionality that we get a lot of value from.

The T3 sounds like an excellent machine and I'd love to get one, but I'm going to hold my purchase until IceTV functionality is enabled. Given the comments elsewhere on the behaviour of daylight savings, I will be curious to see whether the Beyonwiz & IceTV folks are able to resolve the annoying requirement to delete all timers and resend them when daylight savings ticks over.

While I'm used to how to do this now ... its an irritant, and there is no solution when you're away during the time daylight savings starts/ends, as we were one year (so we couldn't record anything).

seriously considering cancelling my order as the ability to use Icetv is a primary requirement for me and it seem Icetv isn't happening on the T3 officially at least

I think you should base any purchase decisions based on capabilities at the time of purchase, not on something where the parties involved in the possible future features "can't give you a timeframe".

decided to cancel the order this morning

there's a few things that are must haves for me and so until it's confirmed they are possible or can be achieved somehow and then reconsider my purchase. I'll miss out on the free dongle but that's doesn't really matter

Ice TV is something that I really can't do without these days after becoming so hooked to it.

I pre-ordered myself, but sorely tempted to cancel the order and stick with my 'farm' of P2's.

Series recording where it will only record first play or repeats as well if you want them.

The IceTV app on my phone makes it easy to record stuff remotely as long as the PVR is turned on.

I'm sure somewhere down the track someone will do something like that to suit.

One big thing with ICE TV is that all listings are handled manually by someone. This is extremely helpful for series recordings. Names for shows are constantly being changed. Sport programs are one of the worst offenders. With ICE, if you set a series to record, and they make some bizarre change to the name for a special event, they still tag it appropriately so all series records set up pick it up as desired.
Although completely unfamiliar with how the T3 works, I would expect it is very similar to how Tivo etc.. handle it. These devices are notorious for missing episodes you wanted to record because the name is slightly different.
I like that I know it works, I have never had an episode not record because of my basic setting.

I have a few years’ worth of ICE subscription, if I get a T3, the P1 will be used so little it is basically retired. So for some it may be the same and considered money wasted.

I was about to pre-order but have re-considered as ICETV is an absolute must-have in my household.
I have a friend who doesn't have a Wiz (and no ICETV) and he regularly complains about missing the end of an episode or missing an episode completely. I just don't miss them.
I also love not having to look out for season returns, I just get to be pleasantly surprised when an episode of a new season appears in the recorded list.
Its a shame as some other features of the T3 make it a WANT for me:
Stream live TV to PCs.
Record more than two shows at once (a pain at the moment with the buffers in place) I get around this by using all three of my Wiz's for recording.

I was so close to ordering!!!!!

The T3 does this out of the box with AutoTimers. It can also update and track the timers. If the networks change stuff around, it will adjust things and pretty much keep up with the changes up to the point where an event starts.

If you happen to have padding turned on, the T3 will help you out by putting in bookmarks in the spots where a show starts. I have found that this can be very accurate. For example, on GO! the bookmarks are to the nearest second.

AutoTimers are very powerful and flexible and can do advanced things that may address the same needs as IceTV. AutoTimers just use a different way.

That is all well and good, but the reason a lot of people miss an entire episode rather than just padding issues, is because of name changing. Can the T3 handle this? If so how? It takes actual people entering ICE data to pick up these changes.
