I'm excited!

I plan to pre-order the T3 soon. I can't wait.

Does anyone have any more info about it than can be found on the Beyonwiz Aust Site?

I agree - would be nice to see what the tech specs are.
Not sure that I want to put down $600+ without knowing more details...

Could be a situation of to little to late. Since my original unit Dsp1 ( which still works btw) I have moved to a NAS with 5 x 3 TB hard drives and a Mac mini running XBMC ( the best media player on the planet) and haven't watched free to air television (except the news on occasion) for over 12 months :D
So many gadgets, so little time...

Arghh! I've pre-ordered the 4TB model.

I just couldn't help it. I'm a hopeless early adopter.
I got one of the first Tandy TRS-80 computers in 1978 - with 4K RAM.
I bought my first DVD player when they still cost $600.
I got my first calculator in 1972... it needed to be plugged into the mains.
Come to think of it, I think I may need professional help.

But I have faith in the Wiz.

It will be FANTASTIC.
There will be copious ONGOING SUPPORT and regular firmware UPGRADES and RAINBOWS and UNICORNS!
Gosh!

The info is fairly sparse and more marketing....

I hope it is
- both a DLNA server and client
- would be very nice if the legacy protocol used by other Bewonwiz devices allowed them to see the files as well

Very exciting news ... I checked the forum just a couple of days ago and just about gave up!
Can't help myself -preordered the 2TB job.
Just hope that it's not freeview!
Expecting a bit of pain with firmware updates/debugging but hoping that will pass - esp hope they get IceTV working soon.
Anyway - need a replacement as my 2nd DP-S1 hard disk controller/motherboard gave up the ghost a few months back!
Can't wait!!!!

Yeah, I was really close to preordering one, but I've resisted (so far).

Uber keen to hear the user experiences once they do come out. Like everyone else, I really want to know the specs. If they'll play the HD files that I currently have to use my WDTV for, while having the rest of the user experience similar to my collection of current gen models, I'd be all for getting one. The ICE TV question is another that hangs over the decision of whether to buy one or not.

For mine, the free tuner for preordering doesn't appeal too much, as it's pretty rare that there's a need to record two channels at a time let alone four rather than three. And the promo picture indicates that this USB unit doesn't have pass through, so it will involve another fly lead and splitter for something of extremely infrequent value. TBH, an upgrade to the next size HDD would be far more attractive.

You must be a discerning viewer. I regularly record 2 at once and have often needed 3 and sometimes 4. Once or twice I have even wanted 5.

I used to use both tuners on my P1 and the one with my Elgato Hybrid. However the world has changed a lot with content supply since these PVRs were all the rage. I now very rarely record shows, and haven't seen both tuners recording at once in a hell of a long time.

Round here we have an S1, P2, H1 and a foxtel iQ. The iQ and P2 are recording every night.

We could download, but we have morals.

It is a DLNA client out of the box, and the DLNA server plugin is downloaded when you first configure the DLNA server.

Currently, the T3 is neither a WizPnP server or client. Playback of .tvwiz recordings from a USB HDD or a network share isn't supported, either.

That's great news Peter

What testing have you done with dlna clients against the T3.

Can you play a file that is still recording .?

My hope is this is the only fta recorder in house with dlna clients in other tv's or rooms.

I think Peteru commented it showed up as upnp dlna source but had not done any testing.

Assume u mean it can play a recording file local, I am more interested in via dlna.

It's ability to act as a hub for other tv's is critical for my home setup.

Foxtel iq3 looks to have many of the features as well and multiple tuners for both fta and cable content and dlna server.

Will give the BW a try as I have enjoyed the previous models.

That's very disappointing.
What about loyal customers?
Without it being able to act as the hub to my existing 3 units (replacing one of them) it will be a tough sell to me - and the wife!
Any word about this eventuating (especially WizPnP)?

I have some experience in that department...

The T3 is very different to the existing Beyonwiz products. The T3 had a very, very low WAF in the first few weeks. Then, for the next month it was on par with the DP-P2. Now, after a few months, the T3 is now being praised for a bunch of things that are better. The combination of AutoTimers, recording to specific folders and extended descriptions for the shows being shown in the file browser, give it a good score with SWMBO. We've had all The Bachelor and The Bachelorette episodes hunted down and recorded into one folder and nothing got missed, even though the scheduling was all over the place. Something that the DP-P2 would have not been great at.

I assume that most existing Beyonwiz users will have the same reaction curve. Initially they will not like the T3 because it is not the same as what they are used to. Then, if they stick with it, the T3 will grow on them. Hopefully during that time period, some of the sub-optimal things will get fine tuned and firmware updates will improve the experience. Once you learn the new paradigms with the T3, you'll probably like it. I do now. The DP-P2 is still in use, but the T3 is picking up more and more duties.

I’ve just started to read about the T3 – but it looks like not being able to watch old & any new recordings from existing DP series Wizzes on a T3 over the LAN (& vice versa) could be the killer for us. Very disappointing.

Thanks Gully. I did read that in another topic after I posted that.
Playing recordings from a DP-xx on a T3 over the LAN seems to be the problem (lack of WizPnP on the T3?). In addition to a T3, I would still want to retain at least one of my DP-xx Wizzes for recording & viewing.

If I understand correctly, if the .tvwiz recordings are converted to .ts format, then the T3 will play them. But I’m not interested in doing that for DP-xx recordings each time a recording is made just in case I want to watch some of them on a T3 over the LAN.

I'm pretty sure that a WizPnP plugin could be made for the T3. I have not heard that there is one in the pipeline from Beyonwiz. Perhaps an early user contribution?

Thanks for the reassurance Peter. I think that would make the T3 more appealing to prospective buyers who run multiple DP-xx Wizzes on a LAN. If that does happen I may end up getting the nod for one T3 a bit further down the track - our S1s have been 100% reliable for a long time now & it’s pretty hard to come up with an argument to retire them. I’ll wait & see what happens.
