FV-L1 1.07.350 FW and Daylight Savings

Post by Spot » Fri Jan 01, 2016 20:50

Hi guys,

Am I the only one having issues with 1.07.350 and daylight savings? I've been using FV-L1 1.07.069 (beta) relatively without issue for ages but just upgraded to 1.07.350, cleared everything and reset the machine back to factory settings. First thing I noticed was there is no Daylight Savings option. Huh?!

Ok, so I set the time to manual and changed the time, set a few timers for tonight. I then tried setting it back to auto and the time showed as correct. Great! Next I shut the PVR down and restarted it only to find the time had reverted and the EPG (FTA) had become screwed.

So, what's the deal? Do I need to leave the time as Manual and hope it stays fairly accurate? I'd rather not connect it to the 'net this day and age as it is obviously outdated and probably vulnerable.

Thanks,
Spot

You need to set the appropriate time zone for DST. Then Auto time setting will work. It's always been like that on the old series Beyonwizes.

Except with 1.07.069 there is one simple switch to enable or disable Daylight savings. With 1.07.350 that switch was removed for some strange reason.

I'm sorry, but there is no way to set the "appropriate time zone for DST" and have the time set at Auto that I can see. For NSW it needs to be +11:00 during DST but as soon as you put it on Auto it goes back to +10:00. If I'm wrong please explain what I'm doing wrong.

I don't know how such an omission could have been released in a stable version FW.

I guess what I'd really like to know is what else changed from .069 to .350. Does anyone have that change log?

I never had a FV-L1 but for automatic you choose manual and the region in your case NSW and the time and offset are set automatically, just the toggle for DST.

Can you describe what you see on the screen, or provide a screenshot, after you select AUTO?

Also the release notes are there on the download page

EDIT: Beaten by Ian for the notes. :)

Guys, thanks for the Release Notes for .350. I've seen them but would like to compare them to .069.

That's the point, the toggle switch for DST has been removed with .350. All other settings are exactly the same, just the option to enable or disable DST is AWOL, just not there.

"Can you describe what you see on the screen, or provide a screenshot, after you select AUTO?"

Sure. I see almost exactly the same thing I did with .069, just without the Enable DST option. If I manually change the time to +11:00 and then set it to Auto it stays at +11:00 until the machine shuts down. Next time it starts I'm back to +10:00.

I'll work on screenshots later but just imagine that the switch to enable or disable DST is gone. I can't explain it any clearer.

I have various older beta version of FW here and they have all had the DST switch up to an including .069.

It seems to me I have three options:

1) I can choose MANUAL for my time setting.
2) I can choose NETWORK for my time setting.
3) I can reload .069 Firmware and select AUTO time setting.

For now and against my better judgement I have decided to connect an Ethernet cable and use Network which does seem to work fine. I just don't like connecting an old, outdated, unprotected device to the internet, but anyway...

Thanks for the help. 8)

What are you connecting it to? If a router, then you aren't really connecting it to the internet since the NAT router is doing the protection, and unless you specifically set up port forwards, there is no risk of someone on the net hacking your Beyonwiz (just ensure you don't enable the router config from the net and change your router default password).

Yeah, that's a fair point too. I am behind a Netgear modem / router which has NAT / SPI firewall/s so I guess there isn't too much to worry about, except perhaps a targeted attack which is unlikely I admit. Still, it is poking a hole in my network. Yep, I have already changed the default password and taken other precautions, but I don't think you can be too careful. It is 2016 now, not like 2009/10 when I first bought the FV-L1.

Cheers!

Hi Spot,

What are the options shown in your "SETUP > Config > Time" menu?

On 01.05.350 I have the following changeable options:
  • Mode AUTO:
    • Date Format
    • Time Format
    • Daylight Saving
    • Region
  • Mode MANUAL:
    • Date Format
    • Time Format
    • Time Offset
    • Current Time
  • Mode NETWORK:
    • NTP Server Name
    • Date Format
    • Time Format
    • Time Offset
In all cases I am able to change the time offset via the "Time Offset" or "Daylight Saving" options.

Are your setting options different?

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian,

Your options:
On 01.05.350 I have the following changeable options:

Mode AUTO:
Date Format
Time Format
Daylight Saving
Region

Mine are the same minus Daylight Savings. That's what I've been saying all along. That option does not exist on my FV-L1 with 1.07.350.

Cheers!

EDIT: I'll have to grab a screen shot.

You may notice it says +11:00. That's fine until I restart the PVR.

Is this an official Beyonwiz firmware version?

Yes, it sure is. I downloaded FV-L1 1.07.350 FW from https://beyonwiz.com.au/downloads/ , or more precisely, http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/media/downlo ... 107350.wrp for the direct download.

Hi Spot,

It all now makes more sense. You are still running the original and limited Freeview build of the Beyonwiz firmware. You should consider converting your unit to the non Freeview firmware and then you should get back all the standard functionality of any "normal" Beyonwiz.

The details of how this is done was, from memory, posted on the forum. If you can't find the information then I suggest you contact Mark (Warkus on this forum) and seek his guidance.

Regards,
Ian.

Thanks Ian,

Oh, I've been searching the forum unsuccessfully for non Freeview functionality and firmware but have been running into dead ends. All URLs have been a no go. After reading Techguy's thread - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7194 - on Gully's advice I've sent him a PM. I'd love to rid my machine of the Freeview limitations so if Warkus can help with that I'll send him a PM too.

Thanks for your time! I'll update this thread if I find a 'cure'.

Why?

Warkus would help if he can. Have you made contact with him?

If your concern is that Mark hasn't contacted you back then that is perhaps because he is very busy or still on holidays. You can contact him directly via his business: http://decisivecomputersolutions.com.au/

Guys, this is SOLVED now. After installing Techguy's Firmware the DST option is back, although I might keep it set to NETWORK for the time being.

Thanks for all your help. :D
