FV-L1 Error Booting

Post by pricho » Sat May 21, 2011 11:44

Hi

I've just come home from a holiday away and my FV-L1 refuses to Boot. The word ERROR flashes several times, then it displays E : BOOTING. Nothing else happens.

I'm told by my adult daughter that she was watching it one night and muted it. She left it muted overnight, then in the morning the FV-L1 appeared to be frozen. She turned it off, then on again and the above error occurred.

Sorry not 100% sure which software version I'm on but from memory it is 1.07.350

Any ideas on how to get it to work again?

Thanks
Peter

Hi there,

Sounds like corrupted firmware/software.

A remote firmware update may fix it.

You will need to use Windows XP to do this, see the thread here...

http://www.beyonwiz.com.au/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1298

Hope this helps

Thanks Mark

Unfortunately the link to the RemoteUpdate zip file doesn't work anymore.

Does anyone have another link?

I have tried to use the Remote update and it isn't working.

When I press 1234 Power on the Beyonwiz remote, it displays Initialize, then flashes Error and E:Network.

My beyonwiz machine is connected via network cable to my home network. The RemoteUpdate displays DHCP Message: Discover 3 times, so I guess the unit is connecting to the remoteupdate.

Any thoughts?

Hi Peter,

Have you added the RemoteUpdater to the firewall exclusions list (in case this is a firewall issue)?

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian

Yes, the Remote Update is listed under the exceptions in my firewall. I even tried turning off the firewall completely, but still nothing.

Cheers
Peter

Had the same problem.

Resolved by loading Updater on to a PC running XP to which I directly connected the Wiz.

Direct connection to an XP machine did not work either. Same display on the machine.

Hi Peter,

It seems like it is time to give us a point by point description of all the connections in place and then a step by step description of everything you are doing and what appears on screen in response.

Is it correct to assume that you have successfully upgraded the firmware to 01.07.350.

Regards,
Ian.

Thanks Ian, I will try to describe what I have done.

I bought the unit approx 4 months ago and it came with a USB stick containing the 01.07.350 software. I updated the unit using the standard menu procedure.

The FV-L1 is usually connected via a network cable to a Belkin N Router, which is then connected to the XP machine via another network cable.

When I first opened the Remote Update tool I was asked if I wanted to Block or UnBlock the program by my firewall. I Unblocked it. After unsuccessfully running the tool, I moved it to a shared folder on my hard drive and was again asked to Unblock it - which I did.

After again having no success I turned off the firewall and tried again. No Luck
On these occasions the IP address was automatically populated by the Remote Update tool and I wasn't able to change it. Unfortunately I can't run IPCONFIG on this machine so am unsure how to check if the IP Address is correct.

I then tried plugging the cable directly from the Unit into the XP machine. The IP Address this time was different (127.0.0.1). No luck.

I have also tried directly plugging the Unit into a Vista laptop - just in case. The remote tool seemed to run OK, but again nothing updated

On each attempt I have used the remote of the unit and pressed 1234 + Power. The unit displays Initialize, before flashing Error and E:Network. Also each time I have had DHCP Message Discover appear 3 times in the Remote Update tool.

The TV itself displays a blank screen during the whole process as it is receiving nothing from the FV-L1

Not too sure what else i can tell you, but happy to answer questions.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far.

Cheers
Peter

Hi Peter,

E:NETWORK usually indicates that there is a problem with your network. Either a network cable is not plugged in or is faulty. Alternatively the Beyonwiz can not see the RemoteUpdate program. This could be because of a router or firewall issue,

When you plugged the Beyonwiz network cable directly into the PC did you set the PC up with a fixed IP address or was it in DHCP mode? If DHCP was active then try setting a fixed IP address and then try the RemoteUpdate again.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi Ian

I have tried changing to a static IP address of 127.0.0.1, the address that appears in the Remote Update tool when I open it. My computer wouldn't accept that address, saying it was used to loopback - or something similar.

I then changed my PC to another number, 102.100.100.1 (just made that up). I closed and re-opened the RemoteUpdate tool, but it was still showing 127.0.0.1 as it's IP address and I couldn't type a new one or select a new one from the drop down box.

is there a way to change the IP address in the RemoteUpdate tool?

Thanks
Peter

Hi Pricho,

Set you PC to...

IP 192.168.1.10
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1

Use a cross over cable and connect directly to the Wiz

Once the IP is set, turn the wiz ON first with the 1234 power, even though it will error, then while the wiz is flashing E:network or whatever error it gives, then open the Updater tool.

Basically with the wiz on, the link will be up so the updater tool will pick up the correct IP address, then once updater is on and showing the correct address, power the wiz off, NOT the updater program though, then set the updater program to the right firmware file, and do the 1234 power again.

I have had to do this on occasion, not sure why, but its like my foolproof if it isnt working, it will this way method...

127.0.0.1 is a reserved Internet address that always refers to a connection to the computer you're making the connection from. Its conventional name is "localhost". For example, if you point your browser to http://127.0.0.1/ it will try to connect to the computer you're running the browser on.

The catch when using a straight cross over cable to the Wiz is that the PC network card will be offline whenever the Wiz is not powered on.

With the card offline, its network address is not accessible.

The solution given by Warkus nicely works around the problem.

Thanks warkus, tried your method minus the cross over cable (cause I don't have one). Didn't work for me, but I'm hoping a guy at work can bring in a crossover cable tomorrow and I will give it another guy.

Really appreciate everybodys help/advice

Thanks

Well either my unit is completely stuffed or i can't follow instructions.

Using a cross over cable i changed the IP address. The Update tool displayed the new IP address but I still get the E:Network error on the Beyonwiz.

Is there a service centre in Melbourne (preferably in the East near Mitcham)?

Thanks
Peter

Hi Pricho,

The only *official* service centre may be in Sydney but there is also an unofficial service centre in Perth. Warkus (Mark) on this forum performs repairs for Beyonwiz owners Australia wide. Mark often repairs equipment sent to him via courier.

Ian.

And Tony in Sydney can help with some repairs.

Plus IIRC there is someone in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne who has been used for some repairs as well.

Both unofficial of course.

It is a tad difficult for me at the moment in a short (?) job in Egypt...unless you don't mind paying reams in local taxes shipping it here (e.g my old work laptop quoted as $200au value on shipping slip was charged 450 Egyptian Pounds ~$80au by the Fedex driver as local customs taxes and broker fee to clear customs....)

Thought I would give a quick update on this. Despite trying all of the suggestions and using 3 different computers (XP, Vista and Windows 7) with and without the cross over cable, I could never get the remote update to work.

I contacted BeyonWiz for warranty help and they referred me to CatchOfTheDay where I bought the machine originally. COTD took approximately one hour to reply to my email and advise that they would replace the machine (Probably would have preferred a refund so I could get a DP-P1 or whatever instead of a Freeview machine :( ) but very happy with the ease and speed of the process. (Sent the old unit back reply paid + Registered so cost me only $3)

The new machine arrived today and I'll plug it in tonight.

Thanks again for all the suggestions

Cheers

Hi,

Is there a link that someone could post to the firmware recovery tool please? All the links I have tried come up with an error 404 :(

Paul_oz53 attached a zipped copy of RemoteUpdate here.

In the last post of that topic ‘blip’ posted a link to getting RemoteUpdater working with Win7 that may be helpful.
