DP-S1 - need to confirm power supply problem

Post by Scobie » Sat Jan 29, 2011 08:51

Hi, I look to be the latest DP-S1 owner having issues.

Never had a problem with it but went to the file player this morning and it started to behave erratically. Every now and then a window will pop up and warn me that if I initialize the HDD I'll lose all data, but I haven't chosen to initialize. If I navigate to check HDD, the check appears to start half way through and then the display shuts off. The check doesn't finish.

On restarting, if I navigate to the HDD in the file player, the folder displayed is called "TR@SHC@N" (or similar). I can also hear the disc having trouble spinning up. Not quite the click of death but pretty close.

Also at times the led display is getting jumbled up, i.e "ONEHD itialize igital"

I can view programs through the tuner, but they are accompanied by crackles and jumps, and files off the USB play but play a little slow, can tell by the audio.

SO I'm assuming I have the well documented PS issues, and as a result my HDD is fried, but just wanted to check.

Thanks

Scobie

Ok, confirmation of standard S1 problems, opened the unit up and found that the 2 1500 mic caps are shot, so going to implement Mark's repair.

Just need to find the caps somewhere, as his sticky pointed out the JayCar caps are either not up to spec or to big, so probably go to RS or somewhere similar.

As part of this process I initialized my drive, I wonder if it actually did it though as the unit obviously wasn't communicating with it at the time.

Hi, Scobie. I think that Mark is willing to supply replacement parts for BW power supplies at good prices.

DP-S1 back up and running, after performing Warkus' cap replacement fix. Had to reindex the hdd, but you can't make an omelet etc, etc.. but no big loss.

Many thanks to Warkus for the detailed PSU fix procedure, made it all pretty easy and was fun getting the soldering iron out again.

Cheers Mark, next time I'm in WA, beer's on me.

Scobie.
