Perhaps you needed the installation done that way too.
The installer requests elevation. Tried my virtual 10 Pro (1703) and that worked fine, too.

You can always use the Beyonwiz supplied tool WizFX.
How do you do that with WizFX? We're talking about recording files copied locally off the DP-S1 to a USB drive. Then the USB drive is sneaker-netted to the PC. Can WizFX read the USB drive and create a {recording}.ts file from the contents of a {recording}.tvwiz folder?
Yes. :)

Ian.

WizFX is a similar program to YARDWiz. It can also convert DP series recordings to single .ts files.

WizFX was written by Beyonwiz, YARDWiz (and getWizPnP) are user-contributed. WizFX is Windows only. YARDWiz runs on Windows, Linux and OS X.

Ahh, so it does.
Highlight the {recording}.tvwiz folder, press 'Change TS File' button - Bob's your uncle; a {recording}.ts file is produced in the same folder.
And WizFX is just an executable - there you go grumpy_one_au, no need for your daughter :)

I copied getWizPnP.exe into the YARDWiz directory and YARDWiz now works. However when I ran it (just booted up the S1 and let it show TV on the monitor), YARDWiz told me it was unable to discover any wizzes. That seems to fit the hypothesis that the S1's LAN port is not operating I suppose, though I don't claim to know what I'm doing in this field.

This is embarrassing to relate. Having installed YARDWiZ on the PC, I just tried to set up WizPnP on the S1, and it was possible to do so (up to now I didn't seem to be able to do anything of the kind). Still in setup, I went to Setting, LAN, DHCP, selected Apply, and it filled in all the data. Went to the PC and opened YARDWiZ. Used YARDWIZ to tell the S1 to convert one of the S1's saved video files to .TS format and copy it to the PC. It did it. Told it to repeat with the S1's only other test file, and it's doing that. Meanwhile I'm transcoding the first .TS file to MKV with avidemux. If this keeps working my life just became quite a bit less complicated. What I don't understand, though, is what changed that made it possible to set up WizPnP, and why that enabled DHCP to work and the LAN connection to be made automatically. Not that I'd like to put things back as they were, you understand, I just don't know why WizPnP became accessible and why that made the LAN accessible. It would be very disappointing if the S1 reverted to its previous recalcitrance for no discernible reason.

Could be any of a number of things but a mechanical fault like a dry joint or dodgy connector would be high on the list of suspects.

If it's working though, try not to disturb it!

This morning warkus emailed me to recommend a few tidy-ups in the S1's power supply, including telling me that I could undo the cobble I'd undertaken to keep the voltage converter from overheating, if I replaced C36. I did, and he was right as usual. When I powered the S1 up on standby to check the outcome, the alphanumeric display operated for about a minute, then went out again. First time it had worked even momentarily in a week or two. This looks a lot like an intermittent contact, or perhaps a component in the last stages of failing. If you have an S1 you don't need a weekend house or a bunch of kids, you've got plenty to do without any of that.

Plugged in my old DP-P2 this arvo, and after pressing the "blue ring of fire" to turn it on, the display went to Error 0000

I'm guessing it might be a bad power supply in it ? ... haven't pulled off the cover to look inside yet.

Was going to bring across some old recordings with yardwiz as .ts files and save them elsewhere.

The error means that the boot loader wasn't able to start the system, but a common cause of that is that the flash memory isn't responding because its power is out of spec.

So, yes, the power supply is a possible (even likely) cause.

Yep, thought that might be the case.

I just pulled the cover off, and the largest capacitor has swelled up a bit, but not really as much as what I saw in my T3 though.

Time to get my other P2 out and save the recordings that I still want to keep.

What is the native file system on a P2 ? just wondering if it would be easier to plug the HD in to a caddy and copy across.

It is a non-Microsoft-compatible variant of FAT.

The T3 should be capable of reading it though. You can plug the caddy into the T4, and copy the files off that way, and convert them from .twiz to .ts format using YARDWiz or similar.

That's what I thought, they'd need to be converted from .twiz to .ts files.

So with YardWiz I thought you had to run it to a P2, and it didn't work with a T4, or is there a way around that?

Using YardWiz now through my other P2 I've got here, and it is just so painfully slow to copy from over the network to a local HD in to .ts format.

YARDWiz can also convert file-to-file, not just while doing a WizPnP network copy.

You can attach the HDD directly to the T4 and run getWizPnP on the T4 to convert files. No need for a computer in between, just a convenient power supply and USB adapter for the HDD.

Good point!. Does installing getWizPnP also install a ton of Perl-related packages on the T4 too?

Really ? ... how do I install in on my T4 or U4 ?

That would make it easier to get stuff across, and the ethernet is much faster on my U4 and T4 than the P2 as well.

Perhaps your system was doing an online update check at the same time - try it again.
Failing that, try installing another package, e.g. the great easy to use editor "nano" - opkg install nano
Failing that too, perhaps reboot and repeat.

Just a follow up, the problem was a firewall issue affecting the IP I had the U4 on... disabled that firewall rule, and was able to get it. :)

Hi Markus,

just joined the beyonwiz board, because I was searching internet for error 0000. I have a DP-P2 that threw this error code this evening, after the lightning in Perth south. I tried to PM you but could not find a working link - hence this broadcast.

Are you able to assist, pls?

You should have been searching for Warkus :)

Click on his name in any of his posts. The PSU repair thread would be the best spot to find him :). You can send a PM from there or contact him directly by email at decisive computer solutions.

We had a power blackout once that gave rise to the same error/equivalent on our DP-S1, P2, Lite i. I took my P2 to Warkus to fix and there was nothing wrong with it when he checked it and plugged it back in. He said it was common for the power supply to "lock up" (my words, not his) in that circumstance.
A simple power off at the wall plug for 1-minute was the fix. A simple check for you to do.

Edit - thinking about it, it was probably a bit more than a 1-minute wall power off requirement.

I'm not sure why you think that. There are several posts in the topic where people have had their old DP series Beyonwizes repaired to fix an Error 000 failure. Error 0000 is often caused by reasonably easily fixed power supply problems.
