DP-P1 audio settings

Post by SteveFromOz » Sat Sep 21, 2019 09:30

Hi all,

I might be a dinosaur but I am keeping my DP-P1 for as long as possible as it is a top unit and does everything. Warkus is sending me a refurb psu and m/b to try and resolve current issues (error 0000). The psu was done 7 years ago. In the process of testing I reset the box to factory default but forgot what my a/v o/p settings were.

I am running a Panasonic 37" Viera with HDMI input, B/W DP-P1 and Yamaha HWT 2067 amp. DVD player (Sony ) to the amp and TV via HDMI. I have both HDMI, component video and optical audio set up and can switch between them as necessary without having to change cables. Main reason for component video is a sync problem between the b/w and amp on HDMI.

My main question is if I have a/v o/p set to 5.1 on the wiz, will I get 5.1 right through the amp? If I set to passthrough, I cannot control volume or mute on the P1 but must do that via the amp. I know I should control audio through the amp, but if set to passthrough I get vastly different audio levels between HS and SD (I'm in Sydney).

Regards,

Steve

That's quite normal for broadcast TV.
But because you can control the volume of the SD channels, and since they are louder than the HD channels (generally), then you can compensate.
The trick is to adjust the volume down on the Wiz, until the SD channel volume sounds the same as the HD channel. Then you never touch the Wiz volume again, and only adjust volume on your Amp.

Thanks Ian,

Read that ages ago and have a printout of it for reference. Need to re-read it to get things clear.

Hmm, it is the HD channel that is louder. Do you mean adjust the Wiz volume up?

Steve
