Internet Radio

Post by jezza » Fri Dec 12, 2008 06:40

It would be good if the WizTV could broadcast internet radio. I am in a steel frame house and unable to access ABC AM radio because of interference and I am struggling to find a well priced wireless internet media receiver.
Some services are currently available via digital radio and will be improved after 1st May 2009. But if it could be done now, this would be great.

Although it would be called WizRadio :)

cheers

I can't really see that happening unfortunately.

An option I would like to see is all the existing AM/FM stations being re-broadcast as DVBt radio channels (like DIG and the parliamentary channels on Channel4). I can't really see that happening either though. No new hardware/firmware would be need by the consumer. We could even record it.

I thought it was a good idea :-(
My Yamaha amp will stream internet radio, as does my Nokia N95 mobile, so I don't think it is all that taxing for the Wiz CPU (has similar requirements to MP3 playback probably, just with a bit of buffering added).

My FM receiver also doesn't work without an external antenna (different issue). The VHF part of my antenna covers the FM band, so I just put a splitter on the antenna feed and connected one side to the radio, and the other side to the TV gear.

streaming audio on your computer?

Post by ptannerford » Mon Dec 15, 2008 20:51

err...

and what about streaming AM/FM Radio on your PC? A couple of 1/2 decent external speakers - its only radio, afterall.. and bingo!

or am I missing something?

regards,
Paul.

Paul;

You are correct but PC may not be in the same room as TV and Beyonwiz and if you are working on PC and others want to listen to AM the sound may be annoying loud for the user.

Just wondered how this request or suggestion might be going, or if someone can confirm if it is possible at least.
Obviously through Wiz TV our units can be made to point to links to download wiz tv podcasts, so bearing in mind that most internet radio streams are not particularly high as far as bit rates go, certainly much slower than the download rates for the podcatsts, I wonder if this could be something achievable?
DP-P1 in the lounge, DP-H1 in the master bedroom. Happy kids and Mrs Crippstor all around, and if Santa Beyonwiz brings out a new model, the P1 to the bedroom and the H1 to the man shed
