WizTV Error

Post by Scobie » Thu Apr 01, 2010 08:42

Hi, I used to be able to access WizTV no problem, but now when I hit the button on the remote I see a dialog box that says "WizTV Error Failed to Access Page".

My credentials still log me in to the WizTV page and my device is still there.

Network status is on the BW up.

The Settings on the BW have server and client as both enabled and the default port.

I'm thinking perhaps a subscription has expired or something similar?

DP-S1 on .320 firmware.

Thanks

Sorry, I'm a little confused. Are you saying you can get the WizTV page up (the icons for weather, ABC news etc) but not access any of the areas within it?
If you can't get to the WizTV page at all then maybe it's down at the moment? I hardly ever go there so been a while since I looked.

Apologies for the ambiguity. I get the error when I try and access WizTV on my TV via the BW remote - to try and bring up the icons you mention. They used to appear but now I just see the dialog box error.

By the credentials I mean if I log into the website www.wiztv.com.au, my device is still listed.

Ah...never been the website. Now I get you.
Are you certain your Wiz is gettng access to the Net? I can only see one of two possibilities. WizTV is down (whatever part the Wiz accesses) or your machine isn't getting Net access.
If you're using IceTV you could try doing a schedule fetch and see if that reports back any connectivity errors.
If anyone out there is near a Wiz and feel inclined to check their WizTV connection and report back?

I'm not using IceTV (although I used to) but from what i can see the BW is at least connected to my wireless network, the network status shows it as connected.

That doesn't mean it can access any external sites though.

Exactly. That's why I asked if you have IceTV to test with.

The WizTV server not down? Anyone know?

I suppose this thread is better placed in the WizTV section

Both www.wiztv.com.au and wiztv.com.au (the DNS name used in the firmware) respond to my browser.

Hi,

I just tested my WizTV connection by pressing the WizTV button on the Beyonwiz remote control and it all looks fine for me.

Regards,
Ian.

Well I'm not sure why it doesn't work, the BW is on the same W-LAN as the pc I'm typing on now, I can ping the BW from here and the BW can stream audio from this PC.

Is there something I need to do to setup WizTV that I haven't done?

2 other things determine internet connectivity-dns and gateway, pinging from your pc tests neither are setup and working for the wiz. Also a router firewall could be blocking it.

The BW is using the same DHCP server as my PC, and hence the same DNS and gateway settings as a system where internet connectivity works fine. I have not introduced nor changed firewall settings since WizTV was operating properly.

try enabling ice and do a ping/check with the Gui and see if it can ping out. Maybe your router needs a kick in the pants.

I'm now getting exactly the same issue as the writer!
I connected to network and it scans for like 2 minutes then says WIZTV unable to access error described in first post. Exactly the same S1 and firmware!

I did have the main Pc computer off, which I don't think would stop things as I connected to the w-lan via dhcp.

Scans?

It sounds like a typical internet timeout when making a connection to a server that's down, or not accessible from your network. Is the S1 network setup correct?

Can you access the WizTV server at http://wiztv.com.au/WizTV/ from your PC browser? It should return a small XML document. If not, what error do you see on your PC?

Access to WizTV from your Beyonwiz shouldn't be affected by whether your PC is running or not.

This is what happens on Pc when I click on http://wiztv.com.au/WizTV/ link::

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

<event name="OnWizTvKey" command="NAVIGATE_PAGE_COMMAND" value="/WizTV/"/>

</webPage>
</subXML>

Just to let you know I had it working, then lost it and lost network, got network back and no wiztv.
Now network is lost on each on\off(standby) of Beyonwiz.
Still no wiztv...then no network connection?

This will sound wierd, but... when you next start up the WLAN on the Beyonwiz, press Apply, wait until it sets up, then press Apply again. Some firmware versions don't save the WLAN setup unless it's been Applied twice.

Since you were able to connect to the WizTV site from your PC, that tends to localise the problem to the Beyonwiz.

I've pressed the APPLY button 20 times and still does not save the settings!
Still I'll keep battling.
Oh I did a wiztv cache clean after I lost the original connection\working...maybe that has stuffed it for ever?

I turned dhcp off and it connected to the network.(was connected on or off but no longer?)
Press Apply 3 times and then exit.
Press wiztv button and 45secs later Wiztv ERROR unable to access page

Heres a new one...I thought I had got it back WizTv and all that popped up on screen was:

-19:31
-2100

on the middle/bottom of the screen..eventually disappeared when i press Ok 3 times and the usual stuff appeared?

So what now?
I get network connected with dhcp off and it when I click WizTv it attempts to connect for 45 secs and then says WIZTV ERROR unable to access?

Will I have to reinstall .320 firmware?

Can I do anything else with W-lan from computer?

I don't know of any further testing of the WizTV connection from a PC that you can do other than trying the URL that I posted.

Can your Beyonwiz use other network services through W-LAN, either local ones, like network shares or WizPnP, or remote services like IceTV (if you have a subscription)?

Unless there were problems with the installation (e.g excessive time to flash the firmware), reinstalling 320 probably won't help. There's a small chance that resetting to factory configuration and setting things up over again might help. You could try going back to 301 to see whether that helps (I don't think the recording format version changed from 301 to 320, so recordings made on 320 should play on 301). Reverting to an earlier firmware version is less effort than a Factory Reset and reconfigure, so maybe try 301 first.

So a downgrade to .301 and then an upgrade to .320 will not affect recordings on HDD.
They are all .301 recordings.

I get a connection with DHCP off but still no WIZTV access?
I may try the downgrade/ upgrade option as a new firmware is MONTHS away right?

Where do you get a connection to with DHCP off (or on)? The symptoms that you describe appear to indicate that you can't get a connection to the WizTV service. If local connections work (like Windows Sharing, or even ping from your PC), that shows that the Beyonwiz is connecting to your local network, but if its router and DNS addresses aren't correct, or if its netmask is wrong, then it may still not be able to connect to external services like WizTV. That's why I suggested connection to a different external service like IceTV. Even if you don't have an account there, if you do a Check User Info in SETUP>Network>IceTV, you'll get a different response if you can't connect at all from what you'll get if you can connect but don't have a valid account.

The last beta was a release candidate. But 301 had a number of release candidates before an actual release was made. I'd hope that it would be less time than "MONTHS" might imply, but the final decision on release is up to Beyonwiz, and beta testers normally find out about the public release the same way as everyone else.

That's just repeating what you've said already. I made some suggestions. If you don't want to try them, that's fine, but I don't know what I can do if you just say the same thing over again.

You didn't even mention which firmware you were referring to. When we last discussed this, it was about trying a different firmware version.

Wiz TV Error

Post by nexus7 » Mon Jan 17, 2011 08:47

After years of trouble-free operation, I am now getting "WizTV Error" when I try to access Wiz TV.
I checked on www.wiztv.com.au>account>my devices. It reports that I have 0 devices activated. ( a glitch must have de-listed me)
So I click on 'activate a new device' and get the 'Device Details' page. Here it asks for a name for the device (Beyonwiz I suppose?) and an activation code.
Where do I obtain the activation code?
Any help will be much appreciated.

Hi Nexus7,

Under normal circumstances the activation code is generated by your Beyonwiz when it attempts to connect to the WizTV service for the first time. I don't know what happens if your Beyonwiz can't make the connection because the server forgot about your unit.

If you can't get a new code via your Beyonwiz then I suggest you give Beyonwiz Australia a telephone call.

Regards,
Ian.

Thank you Ian.
I called Beyonwiz as you suggested.
They tell me the Wiz TV service has been down for a couple of weeks.
So for those of you having trouble, just wait - they are fixing it.

Hi Nexus7,

Give them another call. It shouldn't take this long to fix the server.

Ian.
