VIP Beta Club downloads wont play

Post by mrfixits » Sat Jun 06, 2009 19:17

Hi just wanting to know how i get anything to play after i have downloaded it....i went into the VIP club and entered into the full list and ended up trying the music icon and i download a 255mb video, it shows up in my "Downloads" file but when i press enter/ok it just changes the file back to contents...press it again and it open the file (showing me the file i downloaded) i have pressed the play button, right and left arrow etc and seeing how the website hasn't updated yet with a user guide for the new firmware i don't know how to play the file. Any help would be great.
Thanks

Hi Mrfixits,

The Downloads folder is like the Recordings and Contents folders. It is a hierarchical structure of folders. To play the podcasts etc that you download in WizTV you will need to browse the Downloads tree and find the folder that matches the category in WizTV where you found the media file. When you look in the appropriate folder you should find the media file ready to be played. You play the file by pressing PLAY when the file is highlighted (just like in the Recordings and Contents areas).

Regards,
Ian.

I think that is what he was doing from the description. I certainly tried that and the message I get is unsupported format. I tried 2 different downloads, big and little file sizes. The info button shows avi file with Xvid and Ac3 audio from memory. :(

I tried a couple and they have both played fine.

Which podcast videos were they in particular? This way we can download and try them as well

comedy/good news week/ earliest episode I think
tv/ catalyst/ earliest episode

Also just tried music/top 30 and it failed to play as well with unsupported format.

The info button is now saying no file information available on these, whereas I am sure it worked OK yesterday. I deleted the 2 mp4 downloads.

Hi and thank you for your replies, I new where to find them after I downloaded (I thought I said that) but when I "highlighted any file that I downloaded and then pressed play or enter/OK the file would not play. But I did a shutdown and re power and they all play now, hope that they keep this service going as it is great....I like it much better than what Pod casts the TiVo has.
Only thing wrong with the new firmware is it didn't fix the freezing when you go from FTA to the AV-in....never mind, maybe the next firmware will fix that

I get the unsupported format error as well, and I believe it's because the download is not completing (the bar never gets to the end) and the file is therefore corrupt.
I was able to successfully download a shorter podcast (2 min) and play it, but anything longer will not complete and play. Could the wiz just cancel the download if it pauses for some reason?

Do you have dial-up, ADSL or broadband net connection?

I downloaded about 20 as a test.

Out of that I got 4 that did not play (at least 2 of those were Catalyst)

To try and find out where the problem lies would need to delete the bad ones and download again to see if they are good or not.

If t turns out on subsequent download the 4were ok one would have to consider my failure rate (20%) to be less than good.

And before you ask I have an ADSL2 service and average 30-55gb a month of successful download.

Out of a sample size of 3 I have 3 failures. I also suspect the download not completing properly as being the cause. Given we can't trust the filesizes and that I don't have a huge download limit I won't be experimenting much more unless they start doing a deal with my ISP, Internode, like Tivo have, so the downloads are not counted in quota. I will play around with the music downloads a bit as some are just audio and smaller than video of course.

I'm the opposite - 3 from 3 successes. The vids have been various sizes - 6mins, 12 mins and 56mins

Hi,

The low resolution of the podcasts means that I will only be looking for things I can't get (or missed) on live TV etc. However, all the files I have tried so far (about 6) have worked.

Regards,
Ian.

I downloaded (or tried to) 15 different videos from different categories this morning. 4 of them only partly downloaded or didn't download at all. The copying progress bar appeared for a short time then closed. The file showed in the downloads sub folder, but wouldn't play.

The partly downloaded files would play what had downloaded, but obviously the show was incomplete.

The content I had trouble with was 100MB of larger

The smaller downloads were more successful as they downloaded ok and played ok.

I did get unsupported format for the first (earliest) GNW video too.

I really like this part of WizTV and hope that it can be continued. I'm happy to provide feedback if it helps iron out the issues.

VIP Downloads - No Audio

Post by david.j.schulz » Thu Jun 25, 2009 13:52

I'm not having problems with the download. I downloaded an episode of the Gruen Transfer OK on my 1.5MB connection.

The problem I have is that the video plays OK but there is no sound. I tested one as a mate of mine said he had tried a download which also played without audio.

I had this problem until I was told to change the AAC Output to Decode. I had it set to passthrough. This fixed it for me

Thanks GregH - you're a genius!

Kinda obvious now that you point it out.
