Downloading Firmware from WizTV site

Post by BP3 » Fri Jun 05, 2009 21:07

I have seen that firmware upgrades are available to download from WizTV. However, when accessing WizTV I can't see where I go to do this.

When you access WizTV, it will appear on the bottom RHS under the VIP Beta Club Icon.

I upgraded one of my boxes last night and the other about an hour ago, so it's working fine. Maybe do a power cycle and try entering WizTV again.

Perhaps BP3 was looking on the WizTV Web page?

Aha yes. I did not read it that way, but agree that is maybe what he meant

Thanks diesel - The next time I accessed WizTV the firmware upgrade icon was there on the lower left hand side. It worked fine and I'm now running latest verson on my P1. Funny though, the icon is not there anymore.

My H1 ( 280 firmware) can't access WizTV, and the upgrade for H1 is not on the Beyonwiz site yet. When will this happen?

That's interesting as others have posted about upgrading H1s to the new firmware. Perhaps it has been pulled due to some sort of problem like the one discussed about playback of recordings from an S1.

The upgrade icon has disappeared as you are on the newest FW and there is not a newer one available. When the next one comes (BW reckon 3-4 weeks, but I think it maybe twice that), you'll have the icon appear again.

As for the H1, can you move it to your PC/router and connect it direct to the internet and then upgrade it that way? Otherwise, you'll have to wait until Tuesday before BW will be uploading the FWs, new manuals and new version of WizFX to the websites

Perhaps it hasn't been made available via WizTV, and if so, I don't know why it hasn't been, but a H1 version of 01.05.301 was certainly made available to the beta testers the day before the public release of the other versions on WizTV. There have been some reports of WizPnP not working on the H1 after upgrading straight from 280 to 301. I tried to reproduce this by taking my H1 back to 280, doing a factory reset, and upgrading to 301, but WizPnP worked just fine for me after the upgrade.

I was only able to get my WizPNP working again after reverting back to 280. I'm going to wait for the next firmware since it's only weeks away before upgrading again.

I don't want to be a gloom merchant, but I think 3-4 weeks turnaround for a fairly major change in the firmware (replacement of the DVD player code) is a bit optimistic. Better that than the "are we there yet" chorus when 26 June rolls around.

I haven't been able to reproduce this on my H1, but one of the other beta testers has, and it's being actively discussed on the beta forum.

Thanks for feedback :D

To summarise my experience.

Under 301 my H1 did not see the P2 I have on the network. I tried rescanning and clearing existing network devices. Both H1 & P2 could however stream network shares.

When I reverted to 280 on both units The H1 could see the (case sensitive is important) contents & recording folders.

The P2 had now had (case sensitive is important) Contents, recording & Recordings folders.

All my taped shows were now under Recordings folder which the H1 could not see, as mentioned even after rescanning and clearing etc...

I did move all my content from Recordings to recording and H1 could see content.

I moved all my content to PC and formatted HDD to clear new folder structure which I realise wasn't necessary just me being anal.

Anyway hope this adds to discussion for beta testers.

Hi Trial_Master,

Downgrading the firmware when changes were made to the file system was never going to be pretty. This is unlikely to be changed.

Some of the beta testers, with multiple units, have been trying to identify the issue. They can see why this isn't working but do not have enough access to identify the cause. This will be referred to Beyonwiz for a resolution. We don't expect this issue to be hard to fix.

Regards,
Ian.

Thanks Ian. I'm sure it will be resolved.

Are there any stats available indicating how many or what percentage of users upgraded via WizTV compared to the old website download method?
Since Beyonwiz went to all the trouble of introducing WizTV, I was wondering how successful it has been. I suspect that many were like me, tried it a few times but hardly use it now. I'd certainly use it again for firmware upgrades since it was so easy last time.
