WizTV - Weather Radar images
Good to see that someone has added the radr images into the weather section of WizTV.
However, even on my 50" screen, the displayed image is small (and possibly set ona 254km radius). Is there an option to reduce the radius to 128km or use the Zoom key to zoom in the image? I tried the usual suspects - Zoom key, 0 key, but no good???

Re: WizTV - Weather Radar images
The available radar radii are 64km, 128km, 256km and 512km. 64km is not available for all radar sites. Some sites have other data, like cumulative rainfall and Doppler wind speed.diesel wrote:Good to see that someone has added the radr images into the weather section of WizTV.

The bitmaps for all the images are all the same sizes. The 512km images are composites from multiple sites (none of the weather radars has that range).
You can have a look at what's available on the BOM radar page.

I had a look at the Weather pages for the first time in a while, and I found there's radar for Hobart, there's radar for Darwin, but (did I really expect otherwise?) no radar for Canberra, and the way it's been organised, really no place to put it.
I also agree about the screen layout, it's become ugly and cluttered in the top level of the weather pages.
Why not put the radar button on the corresponding forecast page(s)? That way, all radars could be accessible, not just those of the state capitals and the capital of the least populous mainland territory. With the buttons on the forecast pages also there'd be room for all the radar ranges, and perhaps even some of the other services like the Doppler wind and cumulative rainfall.

Agreed. Provided you can actually access the weather radar for where you are.aussea wrote:...

Sydney radar image. No updating.
Hope this is not one of those bugs that only I have on my P2, but the Sydney radar image on WizTV is not updating. The last image is dated June 4! Just after the 301 firmware upgrade.
Any ideas? Previously reported on this forum somewhere? I was waiting to see something pop up on this.
Cheers.

Hi Aussea,
Regards,
Ian.
The contents of WizTV are generally unrelated to the firmware. A problem in one does not imply a bug in the other. Think of WizTV like a web browser. Most of the time the problems are in broken web pages.aussea wrote:Hope this is not one of those bugs that only I have on my P2, but the Sydney radar image on WizTV is not updating. The "loop" imakes are just a series of radar images. The underlying WizTV support doesn't have the ability to display them as a loop.hawk_eyes wrote:Any chance that the radar "loop" can be added? It's very useful when you can tell the movement and speed of the rain in a few seconds rather than waiting 10 minutes for updates.
Displaying the radar "loop" was proposed almost as soon as WizTV started carrying weatg=her information. The same thing prevents it now as it did then.

Re: Sydney radar image. No updating.
Ian, I am aware that what I am seeing via WizTV is akin to a browser view. What I am trying to point out is that I am amazed that no one else is reporting this. So, I assume it is specific to my Bey (again), much like when I initially reported A/V input issues as a result of the installation of firmware .280 way back when.IanSav wrote:Hi Aussea,The contents of WizTV are generally unrelated to the firmware. What would be good to know is if anyone else is getting the same image for Sydney rather than any updated one? That is all. Perhaps its a WizTV website call to solve. Could there be a resolution given that online services and the VIP club seem to be an emerging thrust for the Beyonwiz crew? Is no one uploading the Sydney radar image on this forum? Cheers. Peter.
My Sydney radar image has been "stuck" since 4/6/09 which kinda coincided with my firmware upgrade as I previously reported..diesel wrote:Is the link for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane radars not updating???
These all seem to show images from June 19 or June 21.
Well others may have the problem too it seems. Don't feel so bad now!
Is there a way of getting at the cache for WIZTV somehow and flushing it out much like flushing the ICETV and service cache?IanSav wrote:Hi Aza0,
Do you have a proxy server on your network, or does your ISP use a proxy? Perhaps the old data is being cached along the way.

I have tried rebooting everything that the wiz is connected to - PC/BW/Modem/Router etc. I have also deleted the device on WIZTV and recreated it. To no avail. The outdated Sydney weather radar image remains! Seems coincidental that this occurred straight after the firmware upgrade, but then very few people are reporting it. I know this is not mission critical, but any fix would be appreciated. Thanks all.
Hi Aussea,
Regards,
Ian.
I don't think the Beyonwiz caches any of the WizTV data. Have you contacted your ISP to see if they have a cache on your connection? Is your ISP running any Internet filtering trials? If so, perhaps this feed has fallen foul of the sensors.aussea wrote:Is there a way of getting at the cache for WIZTV somehow and flushing it out much like flushing the ICETV and service cache?

Thanks Ian. I am not quite sure what 3 Mobile Broadband is doing in that cache regard, but I will check. Why oh why would they choose to filter a weather radar image feed is beyond me, but you never know! WIZTV is working well here with the exception of the damm radar image. Story of my life and Beyonwiz lol.
Yes, the funny thing is that the other city radar maps are updating, with the exception of the Sydney radar image. Thanks for the advice. Cheers.

The BOM radar images update flawlessly on my two laptops using the 3 Mobile Broadband connection - never been an issue. I do have a 3G wireless router feeding the laptops and the Beyonwiz is fed through that via Lan. I run a very busy local community/tourism website that relies heavily on weather feeds, including BOM input, so I am pretty much into weather-related stuff. The WIZTV weather radar image just enabled me to keep one eye what was going on with the weather via my Beyonwiz and big screen, and had made me lazy lol.diesel wrote:Have you tried accessing the BOM radar page via a PC connected to the 3 Mobile Broadband connection to see if it sees an updated image??aussea wrote: Thanks Ian. In all other respects, including the radar images, everything works just fine on my WIZTV with the exception of the Sydney radar image. Cheers.
Melbourne Radar Image too
Just for completeness, my Melbourne radar image has not updated since 6/6/09 - time of upgrade to 301. Would be nice if it worked but there is always the PC or iphone to check it.
Well all my weather radar links have returned to these dates again after being up-to-date a week or so ago.diesel wrote:Is the link for Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane radars not updating???

Bump
bump,
Has anybody found an answer to this?
I am having trouble with the sydney radar images, the others seem OK. I have reset my router to no avail. If I connect withthe PC directly then I get an up to date image for sydney. The wiz gives me 30/08/2009 7:30 UTC.
Are there any other checks I can do?
Andrew
PS Beyonwiz DP-P1 - firmware 301.

I updated my firmware. Still getting the same image as I did in July.
Could the aforementioned problem be caused by hard drive damage?
Hi Bruce85,
Does your Beyonwiz have direct access to the Internet or is a PC providing the connection? I wonder if there is something caching the data along the way. I just checked WizTV and I am getting new (current) images. (I was looking at the Melbourne and Sydney data.)
Regards,
Ian.
Hard disk damage is unlikely. WizTV data is not cached to the internal hard disk.Bruce85 wrote:The radar image I've been getting is from July.

Could it be a combination of a caching proxy server in mapota's ISP, and the caching control headers not being set correctly on the pages sent from the WizTV server, or not being acted upon correctly by the caching proxy?

Hi Peter,
Regards,
Ian.
No, I have not checked it. I made my comment because the time taken to bring up a previously used page is so long that it must have been re-fetched from the server. If those previous pages are in a local hard disk cache then the time taken to navigate back to the previous page is terribly unacceptable!peteru wrote:Why do you say that?
