Who expects to keep using WizTV?

Post by SomebodyElse » Fri Dec 12, 2008 12:28

Was WizTV really worth the effort of the developers and was it worth the wait for long-suffering Wiz owners? Personally I don't think it adds anything apart from diversion of scarce development resources, but who likes it and thinks it's a goer?

Hi SomebodyElse,

I suspect that the WizTV firmware update notification and installation feature will gain some keen support.

Others may want to keep an eye on the special offers area.

Personally I find I keep stopping by to check for the above items as well as the weather forcasts, the Gadgets and News pages.

I am aslo keen to see when the content writers take us as the WizTV portal development continues.

Regards,
Ian.

Personally I'd have thought a WizTV button followed by menu of tailorable URLs would have been quite useful even if only the text in the pages could be rendered. But I guess that wouldn't have generated any sponsorship income so I must be the stupid one.

Here is an incentive for coming back to WizTV: Yesterday, an offer appeared on WizTV that can save you $50 8)

That might work for very simply structured Web pages. Displaying something with lots of frames, or worse, that depends heavily on Javascript, would just be a mess. My understanding from peteru's posts is that WizTV isn't built on a Web browser (not even a cut-down one). Perhaps that's a mistake, but I don't know what drove the decision.

What you mean this one?

It's been discussed in these forums for nearly a week, so hardly a compelling reason to use WizTV!

Different terms. If you read both carefully you will find that WizTV users have until the end of the year to get in on the deal. The limited offer to the general public has been used up, as far as I know.

Plus you can make use of both deals if you have already taken up the public one.

Not me, it's a waste of a good button on the remote. Pity it doesn't turn on HDD spindown.

To answer the question as per the title - Me. I do. Whether or not the current offering appears to be of value, I think the concept has great potential.

I don't know about other people, but I think it's extremely handy having a full help menu to view on the box itself, it's something I haven't seen on the same level on any other consumer device.
Its also a solution for the fact that every firmware update requires essentially a new manual to cover all the new features, now it can be incorporated into WizTv with very little effort.
It would probably help with the old WAF (Wife Approval Factor) as well, although I'm single anyway.

As the Beyonwiz is media player I would like to see the button give access to more info on the media we happen to be playing or about to play ie a service like IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes - a truncated text version with the background search restricted to the file name - so Encore un Hiver would bring up a short text overlay of cast and genre and year etc.

If WizTV could be brought up while watching back a recording then I'd use it a lot more than I do now. I almost never watch live TV.
