Wiz Mac v0.8 released.

Post by efry » Tue Dec 16, 2008 22:26

Hi Guys,

I've just posted Wiz Mac version 0.8 on beyonwizsoftware.net.

This version should fix the crash when trying to connect to a device running the 280 firmware.

It also adds directory support.

You can grab it here.

http://www.beyonwizsoftware.net/softwar ... ;attach=83

Please let me know if you have any issues.

Regards,
Eric

Thanks Eric.

As usual, your efforts are appreciated by us Mac users :D

Edit: A couple of observations:
1. Doesn't remember window/column states after restart.
2. Hitting the red x button, keeps the program open, but unaccessible via clicking on its Dock icon - could this be changed to mirror the behaviour of other Mac apps which allows you to restore the view of the program when you click on the Dock icon? It's caught me out a couple of times during active transfers 8) I hit the red X and later come back to see how the transfer is proceeding and I am unable to restore the program window.

cheers,

john

WizMac 0.8 still crashes on me, gets most of the way through loading the list then it just hangs and takes up massive amounts of RAM. I've update to 10.5.6. :(

Hi Paranoid666au,

That's no good. :( Are you running on intel or ppc? Could you post the wizmac output from the console log?

Do you have multiple folders on your wiz?

Eric

Hi John,

They're both good observations. I'll try to incorporate them into the next release. :)

Intel Mac, there's a folder in my recording folder with stuff in it.

I'm not sure where to find the wizmac output in the console but I'll PM you the stuff out of the Problem Report.

I'm on 10.5.5 on an Intel iMac and WizMac 0.8 loads the list OK for me. Perhaps the OS upgrade is causing the issue?

It would be interesting to know if this is a real issue (10.5.6 upgrade causing the difficulty), as I haven't updated to it yet. I'm a bit slower to update these days, in case some issues, possibly such as this creep in.

Hi Paranoid666au,

I was just wondering, do you have any non-wiz recordings on your wiz? WizMac currently assumes that all files are tvwiz recordings.

Is it possible to store non wiz made recordings on the wiz HDD? If so this would probably cause issues with WizMac as it stands currently.

Eric

Yes, it is possible to store non-BW recordings on the BW HDD, in the contents folder (possible since 1.05.261). The recordings & media files in the contents folder are now (since 1.05.280) also listed in the index.txt file returned by WizPnP. The contents of the recordings folder come first, then a single line containing "contents" (from memory, but there is a distinctive line that makes it obvious), then the listing of the contents folder in the same name|URL path format as the first section. It caused getWizPnP to blow up, too, so until I've worked out what to do with non-BW recordings in the contents folder, I ignore their index.txt entries in getWizPnP. Cop-out, I know. :(

Hey Eric,

I have had three crashes while transferring recordings to my NAS. On the last occasion I copied the Apple 'error report' and console output. It's all goobly gook to me, but it might tell you something. The logs can be found here.

cheers,

John

Hi John,

Hmm... this looks like a bug in Apple's Cocoa framework. :( I've been able to google another program that seems to suffer from the same crash.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/sparkle/+bug/291864

I'm running 10.5.5 on x86 too so I'll try to replicate the problem on my machine. Basically it's crashing when it tries to print a description for a connection failure.

Do you have any other languages installed?

Regards,
Eric

Hey Eric,

No, nil other language installed.

What's changed though, as it didn't occur under v0.7? Dont worry if its to complicated to explain.

cheers,

John
edit: I suspect this wont help, but it seems to occur a sometime after finishing one download, and progressing on to the next queued one.

Yea there's 2 files in the contents folder. Although WizMac always stalls with 4 remaining files. I'll delete the non wiz files and try again.

EDIT: Did the crash report I sent you tell you anything?

Hey it worked! After I deleted the non wiz files it loaded up fine and I'm transferring a program now.

EDIT: Put the non wiz file back on and WizMac hangs.

Hi Paranoid666au,

Yes I'm going to have to make another release to fix this issue. It's not a big change I might just ignore the non-wiz files when parsing the index.txt file.

The crash report was quite helpful. Thanks. :)

Eric

I have another crash report. It seems to be different from what the others are talking about. I was a fair way through downloading one file, in tvwiz format, over wired LAN, with a lot of other network activity going on. I haven't copied any external files onto the Beyonwiz, or created any directories on it. I'm running WizMac v0.8 on OS X 10.4 for PPC. The Beyonwiz is a P1 with 280 firmware.

Hey em5500,

Did you run out of diskspace while downloading? I'm looking at the crash report and it looks like it stems from an error opening a new chunk file for writing.

I'm still looking into possible causes of the crash.

Eric

Both the NAS and the Beyonwiz are consistently at over 90% full so it's very possible that the NAS ran out of space during the transfer. My bad.

WizMac does crash on me sometimes but it seems to resume fine after re-open it. The destination drive is no where near full.

Hey Eric,

Just another suggestion in addition to the previous. Is it possible or how difficult it would be, but could Wizmac have the ability to schedule transfers with some arguments such as filenames, size and even perhaps deletion ( 8) ) at the completion of the transfer? I am thinking auto transfer of files to a NAS for eg while I'm away with work etc.

cheers,

John?

Wiz Mac Crashes

Post by mr_gslb » Mon Mar 16, 2009 22:36

Hi,

My Wiz Mac is crashing halfway through retrieving the file list from my DP-S1. It gets to the 48th or 49th file (of 87) seems to pause and then closes. I have not had this trouble before today, it has always worked perfectly.

I wirelessly connect my iMac g5 to the Beyonwiz via a D-Link router.

I am running the latest version of the firmware in my Beyonwiz, I think it's 208, which I updated to a week or so ago. I don't think I have tried Wiz Mac since updating the firmware, until tonight when it keeps crashing.

I read up on the forum and discovered the new Wiz Mac version (0.8) and downloaded and installed it (I was using 0.7). No change, still keeps crashing.

Any suggestion?

Cheers,

Graeme.

Is it using a later version of PRL/Peters getwizPNP? Because if it isn't, it probably doesn't support the extra directories (that 280 supports) properly, and this may be what is crashing it.

As far as I know, WizMac doesn't use getWizPnP. Eric/efry may have taken some ideas from getWizPnP or got some details about the protocol or file formats from it, bu the code's all his.

It's WizZilla (Windows only)that has getWizPnP (and all its foibles) under the hood.

It is possible that WizMac falls foul of the line in the index.txt file that separates the index for the recording folder from the index for the contents folder.

Sounds like there is something unexpected in the filename of the 48th or 49th file.

But it could be because he is trying to get info from header.tvwiz, which we know doesn't exist with media files in the contents directory.

That's also a possibility. Whether it's the marker line in index.txt or the different format of media files, I suspect the problem does have something to do with media files becoming visible in the newer firmware.

There's a recent entry in OpenWiz describing the format of Contents directory media files.

The next release of getWizPnP will handle them.

Hey Tony,

Yup that was the problem. I've changed the logic so it only adds wiz files to the index.

I've updated wizmac to 0.8a and posted it on beyonwizsoftware.net

Hopefully that fixes the crash. I might add support for non-wiz files in the future.

Mr efry.

Bought my new beyonwiz today and I'm up and running!

I've had no problems networking to my mac, and downloading tvwiz and ts files onto the mac using your fantastic WizMac program. .ts is playing well with XBMC

Is there any way of finding the beyonwiz share without WizMac? I'm trying to locate it using XBMC. What server protocol does the Wiz use htttp?, SMB etc

Thanks

:D
